He’s a fourth-generation Boy Scout leader, recipient of an award for distinguished leadership and a member of the Southern Region committee as well as an ad hoc member of the national committee.
But if the Boy Scouts of America’s national executive board follows through this week with a proposal to reverse a century-old policy and allow homosexuals in its ranks, Steve Elwart of Vicksburg, Miss., says he’s one of many Scout leaders throughout the leadership structure who will resign.
Elwart, a 30-year veteran of Scouting, explained to WND that with a model program already in place to protect Scouts from sexual abuse, his concern is not that pedophiles will infiltrate the organization if the policy is changed.
Calling that issue a “red herring,” his concern is more fundamental.
“Homosexuality is not a value I want to see imparted on my children,” he said. “And a lot of parents feel the same way, that homosexuality is not OK.”

I’m very sure that the BSA organization welcomes this scrutiny because it is necessary to help protect the boys. Introducing this “openly gay is OK leadership” element would not benefit the boys, and for anyone to gloss over this fact shows that their biased agenda must prevail at all costs even if it destroys the BSA organization. The BSA is not (not) an organization founded upon progressive-liberal ideology, as you could tell by reading the BSA Oath, Motto, Law and Slogan. It is a fantastic, enduring organization designed to give eligible boys the best environment to learn how to grow into a confident young man and a good American citizen.
Creating more uncertainty by changing the mission statement that this organization was founded upon in 1908 will not benefit the boys. If existing rules and regulations don’t fit your ideology, then try sharing your energy and acquired skills by getting involved with the Boy’s Club or Girl’s Club of America (Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is the place where great futures are started each and every day.).

My “source leg” would be my own life. I have a very close family member who has been imprisoned for molesting several young boys and I know personally that is what he did. Not to mention programs I have watched pertaining to the subject. My concern is that when young boys are maybe struggling with what is right and normal or what is strange and perverted, I would not think that they need to be exposed to ones who consider sex between boys and men acceptable. I for one want my children to know that boys play with toys, games, bugs, etc and not with each others private parts. We have let society desensitize us to what is ok and what is not. Thats Not OK!

I agree that keeping a discussion about sexuality (all kinds) away from young impressionable children is a good idea, but the fact remains that there will come a point in which these discussions need to be had. We can only hope that their parents are pro-active enough to have it. The problem with the breakdown of “moral fiber” in society today is that parents are too passive to have a discussion about sexuality with their children. Then, when other agencies try to provide information like a school sex-ed class, planed parenthood, hell porn for that matter.. the parents just sit back and blame the downfall of society on these “evil” influences instead of taking responsibility and talking with their children in the first place. Openly, and honestly about ALL of life’s choices.

If you look at the history of Scoutting, Sir Robert Baden-Powell while he did believe in a christian faith several years after the popularization welcomed all faiths and sexuality, which is why the girl scouts was formed. So with two sexually different organization, why is the sexuality of it’s members an issue? Can they not strive to lead a life that is respectful of other people and the community?

There is absolutely no guarantee that my child is going to believe just like I do and I dont expect them to, but I have the responsibility to teach them as their parent and protect them from the things that i feel like are not in their best interest, but then they will have to develope AS AN ADULT the beliefs that they find right

You can quote some scripture all day long. It doesn’t change the word on Homosexuality. If you would read the entire Old Testament THEN read the entire new testament you would find the reasons for so many laws in the Old Testament, HOWEVER, Homosexuality is STILL DIRECTLY ADDRESSED in the New Testament.
