Last week, Mike Huckabee found himself behind enemy lines on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and stumbled into an ambush he should have seen coming.
Lying in wait for Huckabee, an eager volunteer in the campaign for the White House, was that savvy veteran of the Clinton “War Room,” George Stephanopoulos.
Huffed Stephanopoulos, “It seems like Republican leaders have the hardest time in the world saying simply and clearly, ‘President Obama is a Christian and a citizen, get over it.’”
After dancing around the trap for a minute, Huckabee yielded to Stephanopoulos’s prodding and fell in.
“I just don’t think it’s completely necessary for us to delve into such extraneous matters,” sniffed Huckabee. “And for Republicans to even be bringing it up, I think it’s a waste of energy and time.”

And we progressives certainly appreciate the fact that top Republicans can't or won't answer simple questions.
What will be the progressive's position should the Congress legislate a mechanism to enforce the Presidential eligibility provisions of the Constitution? There are at present numerous legislative attempts, at both the State and Federal levels, to impose a requirement that a Presidential candidate provide incontrovertible evidence of birth within the United States and that a candidate never surrendered citizenship by obtaining a foreign passport. Will the progressives support such legislation or poke ridicule at such an attempt? It is my sincere belief that Obama was not born in Hawaii or he would have already provided incontrovertible proof such as an original birth certificate, signed by an attending physician or midwife, indicating the time and location of the birth, the mother and father of the child, and other information required by the Bureau of Vital Statistics at the time of birth. Probably 99.9% of American citizens have such a document and now have to show it just to obtain a driver's license. And I am supposed to take Obama at his word that he was born in Hawaii?
The federal proposed law, and the ultimate laws (if any) at the states will be the same. They will simply require the official birth certificate of a state. That is because of the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution in which every state must honor the official records of other states.
No, they cannot specify "the original" or "the long-form." They must accept the official birth certificate.
In addition to the Constitution there is the simple fact that many states have adopted short-form birth certificates and some may have destroyed the originals. Other states may want to destroy the originals as a way to save space and money. No state can make another state retain old records.
As to the proposed Federal legislation, the Wall Street Journal put it this way: "Further, if Congress were to pass the so-called birther bill, Obama would be able to comply easily. The bill would require presidential campaigns to submit “a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate” to the Federal Election Commission. The certificate Obama has released publicly would meet this requirement.”
Obama has shown the certification of live birth, which is the official birth certificate of Hawaii. It does not show the name of the doctor or midwife because it is a short-form birth certificate, but it is the official birth certificate—used by thousands of people to prove that they were born in the USA every year.

I agree–it's one of the things that drives me most nuts about Sunday morning news programs. But the Dems' failure (right now, anyway), isn't causing a split within their own party, as is occurring with Republicans who can't decide which conspiracy theories to embrace.

I'm not sure it was that simple. We used to have conservative Democrats (mostly in the South) and liberal Republicans (mostly in the Northeast); now both are almost extinct because of party purity tests.
I'm "left" on many issues, but libertarian on many–including drugs, prostitution and gun control (the one area where I'm more "conservative" than my Sourthern Baptist buddy with whom I argue each week on the radio).
I'm pro-union even though I've never belonged to one, because there has been a direct correlation between the decrease in unions and the decline of middle class earning power. I'm pro-"welfare" because I think a country that can spend more on its military than the next 10 nations combined should have the moral responsibility to take care of its citizens.
And I'm troubled that Wall Street–which more than anything else wrecked the economy–can pit parts of the middle class against one another, pursuading states to strip workers rights and education funds to save less money than we paid to bail out those Wall Streeters.

Here's a New Word For The Day – "Dhimmitude" – What Does It Mean?

Dhimmitude is the Muslim system of controlling non-Muslim populations conquered through jihad. Specifically, it is the TAXING of non-Muslims in exchange for tolerating their presence, and as a coercive means of converting the conquered remnants to Islam. Obama Care allows the establishment of Dhimmitude and Sharia Muslim diktat in the United States. Citizens, this is exclusively an Islamic concept under Sharia Law.
So exclusive they had to make up an English word to define the concept. Why would our government start interjecting Sharia Law concepts into new broad legislation like his health care that would control the US population? ….Anyone?
Muslims are specifically exempted from the government mandate to purchase insurance, and also from the penalty tax for being uninsured. Islam considers insurance to be "gambling", "risk-taking", and "usury" and is thus banned. Muslims are specifically granted exemption based on this.
How convenient.
So a Christian, will have crippling IRS liens placed against all of their assets, including real estate, cattle, and even accounts receivables, and will face hard prison time because they refuse to buy insurance or pay the penalty tax. Meanwhile, Louis Farrakhan and all other US Muslims will have no such penalty and will have 100% of their penalty paid for and will have 100% of their health needs paid for by this government insurance. This is the Sharia Law definition of… Dhimmitude. This is not a Western Civilization concept folks.
Dhimmit has two purposes: To enrich Muslims and convert people to Islam.

I have heard they are thinking of the Hillary move but they were thinking of it being a surprise and Washington has no secrets. The cocktail parties in Washington are just about the worst for keeping stuff private, also they are used to launch trial balloons. So this could be either. If we're ever going to tackle the big issues (military, Social Security, Medicare) perhaps the best chance will be in February or March 2012 if Obama has won re-election (and so has no need to worry about a next term) and when the Republicans (who may control both houses of Congress because of promises to make cuts) are still almost two full years away from having to worry about re-election.
