December 14th, 2012 is a date sure to live in infamy. Twenty young children were killed by a suspect not much more than a child himself.
Twenty six people were murdered Friday at an elementary school. Its magnitude was such that I first thought the report was about an overseas tragedy.
Voices for and against gun control shriek, while a recession-weary populace numbly hugs its children, thanking God that this didn’t happen to them.
There may be an organic solution to this appalling vulnerability.
After September 11th, select airline crew men were trained as “Federal Flight Deck Officers”, authorized to carry firearms for which ammunition is designed not to de-pressurize aircraft.
They are the last line of defense in occasionally unfriendly skies. Should all else fail, they will defend the aircraft with lethal force if needed.
After Friday, hardening America’s soft underbelly of gun-free school systems (assailants exempted) may require a radical thought for some: arming select teachers and/or support staff.
Let it sink in before you react.
There are only so many school resource officers and private ones to go around. When budgets tighten, security is the first thing eliminated or severely cut.
Our ally Israel arms school support personnel (including designated parents) while on campus. Critics may say “but they have a terrorism problem” as grounds for such action.
Active shooters facing unarmed students, faculty, and staff is more than enough terrorism for average Americans.
Chronically-unsafe inner-city neighborhoods could use this option since armed criminals and psychotics function there more often.
Friday’s tragedy in Connecticut reminds us that disarming the law-abiding means that attackers can press lethal advantages long before law enforcement arrives.
If airline crews are armed as an airborne last line of defense, why are a school’s first line of defense (teachers) left too often with their bodies as the only protection when children are attacked?
Save the children: arm faculty.
Make criminals and crazies think twice.

We lock our homes. Why don’t they lock the schools? We don’t just let strangers wonder in and out of our homes. Why do they just let strangers wonder in and out of the schools?
They said there was a glass “security” type of door that was shot through. So what good did that do?
When we are home, our doors are locked, just as they are locked when we are not home.

As a former police officer I can tell you that if someone wants in locks will not make a difference. Too many people thank they are secure in their homes because their doors are locked. That is not true. If someone wants in they will find a way even if they have to steal a vehicle to drive through a wall. Your best defence is a firearm, it is not fool proof but gives you your best chance. If the teachers had ben armed like teachers in Isreal there would have been a lot less people die.
If someone breaks into your house and you see them the chances are they will not let you live to identify them. A lock will not stop them from killing you. A lock only keeps honest people oinest. Only a gun will stop someone who is intent on killing someone.
I`ve bee saying arm the teachers ever since Columbine.
It was locked. The shooter broke in.

Too bad the school office folks aren’t armed to the teeth. In the olden days when I was a boy, we shared our pride in our shotguns and 22’s with our school principals and even carried them down the street to go hunting or plinking.
The solution to crimes like this is exactly the opposite of the totalitarian mindset. Too bad our leaders are so ignorant they don’t know they’re stupid!
I think the ACLU recently got a Connecticut gun bill shot down. Good thing they’re worthless progressives or they’d be in jail instead of the perps.:

I’m praying for the victims and families of the Newtown massacre. I’m also praying that We The People will prevent further mass murders by insisting more law-abiding citizens carry guns to defend themselves and others, especially innocent little kids — this is not debatable. Nothing that has been tried and nothing has been proposed that will work–EXCEPT– arming the school staff and training them to shoot straight. Just take down the sign “GUN FREE ZONE” and replace it with “OUR STAFF ARE ALL ARMED!” — We will have seen the last mass shooting at any of our schools!

Cars kill way more people than guns.. Drunk diving laws have not prevented people from driving while intoxicated and killing tens of thousands of innocent drivers annually. So, according to the government infringers of our Constitution, who have their own taxpayer provided security to protect them round the clock, we should deny that privilege to the people who pay their salaries and abusive luxurious lifestyles. Are they going to ban automobiles? Are they going to ban criminals who will always have access to guns while law abiding citizens are denied the right to protect themselves? Just how do you do that? See England and Australia, among the many nations that have turned their law abiding citizens into victims at the hands of armed criminals. How about the man in China who stabbed 22 children……..no gun. Guess they should ban knives. There are many incidents like this in China but we rarely hear about them. Then there was the mass murder by a gun wielding crackpot in Germany, Gun control works real well there it seems. This tragic event of yesterday could have been prevented had we employed the same policy that exists in Israel, where teachers are armed and trained to respond to threats of violence. As a combat trained veteran, certified range officer and carry permit holder I would be honored to volunteer to provide security for local schools free of charge. Our children deserve a safe and secure learning environment. As to what they are being taught, that i can’t control, though our level of education has become an international joke!

I was going to suggest posting retired police , possibly Military, in our schools.
But arming and training school staff is better.
…and I agree….. cars, knives, alcohol, drugs likely put guns way down the list.
If Congress has hearings I hope you get to testify.
I would be in favor of arming some teachers in the schools. What I would suggest is that a few teachers from each school go through police training. Upon completion they could actually be issued weapons and badges that would identify them as actual police officers. The number of teachers trained from each school would depend on the size and student population. During the summer breaks they could also have the option of working as police officers. They could be used to augment the increased need that usually is required during the summer months. It could also release full time officers for vacations or other absences and still keep the force at full strength. The government would never buy into that.
I’ve said arm the teachers many times BUT, the REAL answer is to re-instate Almighty God, the Holy Trinity back into schools. muslims or other faiths will just have to get over it or get out. Then, the sane thing to do is cut out the movies, video games, music, dvd’s that instigate killing. This is not to say to restrict your children to an extent that they’re nieve or dumbed down to these types of violence, it’s just that the parents have the control to what and how much they see it and, the parents should talk to their children about it. America kicked out Almighty God from the government and schools so, seeing and hearing of extreme violence of this nature is truly not surprising but, deeply sadening. Mental health coverage must be the norm today. Taking away our freedom of having firearms/semi-automatics is NOT the answer. Anyone can kill a large number of people with other devices so, taking away guns won’t help to stop insanity. Society IS the problem. There are areas that we have too much freedom. To me, that’s the Video Games, TV, Movies, DVD’s, Music that use violence as a way of “conditioning peoples minds” to think that it’s all Okay to act out the killing of others.
You are right, We need to reinstate God into our schools. I think the faculty should be armed, also. But, we never should have pushed God out of our schools, government, courts, etc. Also, our children and young people grow up watching violence on TV, in the movies, in video games, etc. They are being desensitized to the horrror of killing. So, they think it’s not so bad. Also, we slaughter our unborn by the millions every year. This sends a message to our young people that it’s normal to do this. So, they think it’s OK to kill. You can’t tell children to do one thing, yet do the exact opposite in your actions. That confuses them. They do what we DO not what we tell them. Children learn through actions more than words.
A facility with a sign that reads: “This is a Firearm-Free Facility” is an open invitation for any deranged person (civilian or peace officer) to do harm to unarmed citizens.
