BOSTON – Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has frequently brought up President Obama’s fondness for the politics and methods of activist Saul Alinsky.
However, there is evidence presumptive Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney may have been influenced by the late 20th century, Chicago-based radical.
Political commentator Dan Riehl wrote on BigGovernment.com that the “toxic-to-conservatives” Alinsky effect has its roots in the former Massachusetts governor’s father, George Romney.
“The progressive Alinsky is infamous and actually toxic on the right,” Riehl wrote. “George Romney’s endorsement of him, coupled with his acknowledged strong influence on son Mitt, will do little to assure suspicious conservatives concerned about Mitt Romney’s record as a progressive, including his introduction of Romneycare in Massachusetts.”
Political journalist and analyst Andrew Kaczynski wrote in a recent edition of the Buzzfeed that the elder Romney met with Alinsky to find a way to deal with the problem of the urban poor.

Hey, all you libtards out there. Your boss Obama’s going down boys and girls! And, all you America haters out there are being exposed. Your going to find the road isn’t going to be the easy one you’ve been on for a long, long time. Oh, no. We’ve had it, and we’re exposing you and your anti-American ideals to the world for everyone to see. Bye bye America haters. Your time is up!
RichardM: What have your comments got to do with Mitt Romney’s connection to Obama’s marxist hero, Saul Alinsky, which is the subject of this oped. Can you spell “discussion thread?” Try and keep on it rather than spew jibberish nonsense.
This is breaking news, assuming its factual, of a sort that should make it quite clear that Romney is at best Obama-lite and at worst a big government, big spending, progressive RINO who ran to the left of Teddy Kennedy for his Senate seat and lost. He was heavily critical of Reagan and never supported Reagan in any way contrary to his lie that he is a Reagan conservative which Reagan’s son, Mike Reagan, makes quite clear in his endorsement of Gingrich.
The voters of FL had their collective heads twisted with thousands of negative personal attack ads against Newt Gingrich run by the Romney team or their surrogates which is the chief reason he won FL. He bought those votes. He did not earn them on the merits of his positions on the issues or his record as a one term governor of MA because he is an opportunist who will say and do anything to get elected.
Unlike in the primary, Romney can’t outspend Obama and the DNC in the general election and will be riddled with negative attack ads aimed squarely at his republican elitist establishment persona to the point that conservative voters will be so dispirited that many will not vote. The Senate will likely remain in the hands of the Demonic-rats if Romney is the nominee. While its easy to get people motivated to come out and vote for someone they like, its not so easy to get them to come out and vote for someone they dislike less than the opposition. I had hoped and prayed that this year, maybe for the first time in decades, we would have the opportunity to vote for someone we really liked and believed in rather than being forced once again to hold our noses and choose between the lesser of two evils. If Romney is the nominee that is precisely what conservatives will be faced with. I predict he will lose to Obama possibly even worse than McCain did in 2008.
