The University of Illinois has fired an adjunct professor who taught courses on Catholicism after a student
accused the instructor of engaging in hate speech by saying he agrees with the church’s teaching that homosexual sex is immoral.
The professor, Ken Howell of Champaign, said his firing violates his academic freedom. He also lost his job at an on-campus Catholic center.
Howell, who taught Introduction to Catholicism and Modern Catholic Thought, says he was fired at the end of the spring semester after sending an e-mail explaining some Catholic beliefs to his students preparing for an exam.
“Natural Moral Law says that Morality must be a response to REALITY,” he wrote in the e-mail. “In other words, sexual acts are only appropriate for people who are complementary, not the same.”
An unidentified student sent an e-mail to religion department head Robert McKim on May 13, calling Howell’s e-mail “hate speech.” The student claimed to be a friend of the offended student. The writer said in the e-mail that his friend wanted to remain anonymous.
Howell said he was teaching his students about the Catholic understanding of natural moral law.
“My responsibility on teaching a class on Catholicism is to teach what the Catholic Church teaches,” Howell said in an interview with The News-Gazette in Champaign. “I have always made it very, very clear to my students they are never required to believe what I’m teaching and they’ll never be judged on that.”

Hate against the Catholic Church has been around since the times of the Apostles. Now the hatred is intensifying since the Church hired gay Priests. The gay Priests took the same vows and promises of chastity all Priests did, in the 50's and 60's 80% of the Priests who molested young people were gay. By the 2000's Bishop's gave the gay Priests a YEAR OFF to decide if they could abide by their vows and promises. Some did not return. The evil in the Church and Seminaries and in some Orders was unbelievable, many good heterosexual young men and gay men left the seminaries in disgust. Jesus never said the Church would be popular, nor did He say He was. The hedonists want to believe there is no evil, no Devil, no right or wrong, just situtational morality. Even though the people in the Church make huge mistakes some times, Jesus said He would be with it always. Catholics aren't going to bow to political correctness, when the narrow path of Jesus is easy and must be followed.
Whatever happened to "tolerance?" Isn't tolerance about respect? It's not about agreement. If it were, then we'd all be intolerant.
The United States is based on reiligious freedom. Religious freedom is so important that the Founding Fathers included it in the Constitution. I"d say the rights of the religious trump the rights of homosexuals. Besides, if you have the right to believe whatever you want, then who is really being hurt here?
Homosexuals aren't interested in serving God. They simply want the approval of Christians. It's not ours to give; that right belongs to God, and the Bible is clear. (1 Corinthians 6:9)
Homosexuality is immoral. This government is approving it.
Have you ever thought that the disasters are occuring because this government is turning against God? It even says in the bible that you don't lay with your own kind. God said go forth and multiply.
You sure can't do that with two men or two women together.

Caused a teacher to lose his position and Mr. Howell is not allowed to face this accuser, because this good-for-nothing "Wants to Stay anonymous.??" Somehow these worthless people only wish to cause trouble and then sits back and laughs at the fools who take him seriously.

Unbelievably ignorant. He was simply doing his job in teaching what the Bible (all denominations) says from a Catholic (Christian unity on this subject) point of view. This is not about 'Hate Speech' but an attack on Christianity. Just what do these young adults (supposedly) think they are going to hear about this subject in any Christian denominational study? Are college students really that stupid? To bad that our institutions of higher learning are nothing more than production sites for socialist marxist society enthusiast that cannot exist in Christian doctine societies. Thats the real reason behind this idiocy. I wonder if they keep this class, which I doubt, who will teach it and what will that person teach on this subject? The people who did the firing needs to read in the Bible, Mathew: Chapter 5, Verses 18 and 19, but then again, they are probably atheist and have no beliefs or faith.
This is the third article that I've put up that you have censored and refused to post, and there is no profanity in any of them, just Christian conservative views which you seem not to want your viewers to read. Just what is it that you are afraid of? Are we not allowed to have Christian conservative views on this blog site, you are saving it for liberal atheists only? So that means just the views you agree with.

Why does the school protect gays and Jews but not white Christians? You see, Folks, what most of you do not realize is that to give protection above the other to one takes rights away from the other. And, yes, gays and jews can say anything they want about white Christians and heterosexuals, the norm.

I am a "fallen by the wayside" Catholic for reasons I do not care to discuss but have nothing to do with sex. That does not keep me from believing homosexuality is abnormal and a sin. However, I have many gay friends and like all of them. I made it very clear to them that the "no touching" role was in effect in my presence. What they do when I'm not there is up to them. It is not my sin. It is their sin. God will judge me just as he will judge them. They will have to answer to God just as I will….God Help Them.

I am only 75 years old and this is the very first time I have been told that telling the truth is what one does. Further, calling his statement a "hate speech" is just plain silly. Unless, of course, telling the truth is. The email writer said his friend wanted to remain anonymous. Why? If he is so proud of being homosexual why does he wish to hide it?

What happened to free speech? This gentleman is fired, while Ayers — who said he was sorry he did not plant more bombs when he and his wife were setting them off – is still teaching. The professor was discussing — not converting. Enough of this nonsense.
I guess the professor has to take the University to court for reinstatement and damages. He cannot take that lying down! this is the only way to show the liberals that the conservative also have a voice and freedom. I am ashamed of those students. In no way has he or she been offended; this is the homosexual agenda-to remove all opposition. But they can never and will never remove opposition to their unnatural habit. It is as simple as that.
I am a practicing Roman Catholic but I think homosexual and lisbian practices are a very big sin!! They will get their judgement from GOD From what I read both houses of congress is full of both!!
