This Is Why The President Should Give Bundy The Medal Of Freedom

Whatever else Cliven Bundy has done, he stood up when most people groveled.

Jeff Foxworthy describes a redneck as a person with a “glorious lack of sophistication”. Remember, it is a description that is definitely NOT meant in the pejorative, since most of Foxworthy’s audience is laughing at themselves.

That description fits Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy to a tee.

So Bundy, who just got done handing the Bureau of Land Management’s collective butt to Harry Reid, and the rest of the so-called “environmentalists” who think it’s OK for the Federal Government to cause us to starve to death by killing off ranching, is not very sophisticated. And he said to a New York Times bureau manager exactly what he thought about the plight of blacks in America.

Yessir. He called Barack Obama “a ‘light-skinned’ African American ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wants to have one.”

No, wait.

That was Harry Reid in 2008.

He must have said:

“Too many (black) fathers are M.I.A., too many fathers are AWOL, missing from too many lives and too many homes.”

No, wait.

That was Barack Obama in 2008.

What Bundy actually said was this:

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the negro. When I go — when I go through Las Vegas, the north of Las Vegas, and I would see these little government houses and front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there’s always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch. They didn’t have nothing to do, they didn’t have nothing for their kids to do, they didn’t have nothing for the young girls to do. And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, well, are they better off as slaves picking cotton, having family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? [inaudible] Yeah, they did get no more freedom, they got less freedom, they had less family life. And their happiness, you could tell they weren’t happy sitting on that concrete sidewalk. Down there they could probably be growing their turnips. So that’s all government, that’s not freedom.”

OK, he’s not particularly articulate. I probably could have made his point much more clearly. (But then, telling a story is what I do professionally.)

But he’s also NOT wrong or a “racist” despite what you may read from headline writers and Harry Reid.

The fact is that nearly 75% of black children are born today out of wedlock. The scene described by Bundy is a daily occurrence not only in North Las Vegas, but in inner cities all over the United States.

We have a black President, a black attorney general, and even a mentally disabled Senate Majority Leader; but we have not yet solved the problem of what happens when you create dependence on a welfare state. Yet, creating a welfare state is the exact strategy we used to placate black leaders in the 1960s after we passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Observing those things in public, however inarticulately, does NOT make one a racist. Except, perhaps, in the twisted logic of the hard left and their sycophants in the media.

Bundy’s problem is that he just got done kicking the government’s hind parts, and the libs who write headlines (as well as the chattering politicos) are lusting for his blood. They want to turn him into Nevada flank steak.

And they know that when the subject turns to race, even conservative Republicans are largely wusses who will back down faster than Arnold Schwarzenegger faced with an illegitimate child.

It used to be that Social Security was the electrically charged third rail of American politics.

Today, it’s any mention of race.

You disagree with Barack Obama? You’re a racist.

Don’t like Obamacare? You’re a racist.

Think that affirmative action is a bad idea? Racist.

But here’s the deal.

While the headline writers at the Las Vegas Review Journal and the New York Times were calling Bundy a racist, the Supreme Court in a 6-2 decision (with Justice Elena Kagan not taking part) ruled – for the first time – that the voters of a state may bar their public officials from any use of race in admissions to public colleges. They said that a state’s voters can ban “affirmative action”, if they chose to do so.

If Bundy’s poorly articulated point was that government intervention contributes to a lack of freedom, or even that it is a government overreach for a government to ignore the will of its citizens, then it would appear the Court agrees.

Nobody wrote a headline calling the Court a bunch of racists.

But you see, the chattering class doesn’t like Bundy because he represents someone who clings to his guns and his religion (Barack Obama, 2008) and doesn’t fit their mold.

I even watched Bill O’Reilly lambast Bundy for what he said and, in the process, was completely and factually inaccurate about the story, its timeline, and the “taxes” which he said Bundy didn’t pay. Seems Mr. O is now too big to flunk Journalism 101. A “journalist” who is too big to fail. Imagine that.

Cliven Bundy is a hardscrabble rancher. He doesn’t run a corporate feedlot in Illinois from an air conditioned office. He is not Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King. He does not have a PR firm representing him.

But when he had the temerity to challenge the established order (which even the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association didn’t have the cojones to challenge), he won a significant victory.

Granted, he could use a media advisor.

But I’d rather have a rancher who kicks the BLM’s rear end (and Harry Reid’s by proxy) than an East Coast slickie boy who is smart enough to stay away from talking about the third rail of American politics.

Here are some questions I’d like answers to:

  • How many snipers did the BLM deploy in their aborted cattle “gather”?
  • Is the speculation by former Las Vegas Review Journal Managing Editor Tom Mitchell true that the real reason the BLM quit was that no cattle people would do business with them?
  • How many rounds of ammunition does the BLM possess?
  • What is the weapons inventory of the BLM?
  • How many “law enforcement” officers does the BLM employ in the Western United States? Where are they located?
  • What happened to the two clowns who killed 20-year-old D’Andre Berghardt Jr near Las Vegas on February 14?
  • Were those two clowns in the group of armed “law enforcement” BLM employees on the Bundy “gather”?

I’ll bet that the honest answers to those questions will scare the crap out of any freedom-loving American a lot more than anything Cliven Bundy has said or will say.

Whatever else Cliven Bundy has done, he stood up when most people groveled.

For that alone, some President in the future should give him the Medal of Freedom.

He would be much more deserving of that than Barack Obama was of a Nobel Peace Prize.
