A new poll of leading presidential scholars ranks Barack Obama as the 15th best president of the United States, just below Bill Clinton but ahead of Ronald Reagan.
The Siena College poll, which surveyed 238 presidential scholars at U.S. colleges and universities, asked scholars to rate the nation’s 43 chief executives on 20 attributes ranging from legislative accomplishments to integrity and imagination.
In the overall ranking, Obama rated two places below Clinton, who was 13th best, and three better than Reagan, who is ranked as the 18th best.
Franklin D. Roosevelt again earned the top spot, as he has every time since the poll was first conducted in 1982. He and the Mount Rushmore presidents — Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson — have consistently been the top five presidents in the poll’s findings.
Obama’s 15th ranking is slightly higher than other presidents who have taken office since the poll started nearly 30 years ago. Most start out at about number 20, said Siena statistics professor and poll director Douglas Lonnstrom.
“[Obama’s] doing a little better, but he’s generally in the same ballpark,” he said.

As I have said many times, just because someone is a "professor" does not mean they have a lick of common sense, or are rational thinkers, or are anything other than completely indoctrinated to say whatever they are told to say. Remember always, People, they go through the same schools as the rest of the people.
As a former teacher, I can guarantee you that unless one works very hard at learning the truth about what is going on, professors at the college level know no more than what junior high school kids did 50 years ago. And, as far as politics go, most are dumber than a box of rocks, just spouting back whatever is in vogue at the time. If they don't then the odds of them staying on even at the collage level are slim.

I have found the higher the education the less in touch with reality the person is. Which coincides with the degrees: BS = Bulls—- degree, MS = More of the same, PHD = Piled high and deep. With this survey results professors are about as low as politicians.

Changing this process requires changes at the top of this power controlling group. Auditing the Fed is where to start. That should get rid of Obama also. This is an indictment of our collegiate system. These guys either need to reevaluate their claim to being an American (assuming they would so claim), or come out of their ivory towers once in a while to see what is actually going on. Just doing the rating game, but as far as Obama's rating goes, even before Friday's historic Wall Street reform agreement, President Obama, of course, did what politicians have been trying to do for more than 60 years. He passed health reform, which, for the first time, establishes government responsibility for the health care of American citizens. It's a BFD.
Consider also the stimulus bill. It didn‘t just throw a lasso around our entire economy and yank it back from the brink. It also pumped about $100 billion into the crumbling embarrassment of our national infrastructure and transportation system. It was the largest investment in infrastructure since Ike. For solving our country‘s energy problems, something Obama has compared to man walking on the moon, it contained about $60 billion in spending and tax incentives for renewable and clean energy, also a historic investment and another BFD.
It also included an unheralded but giant investment in science and tech, amping up the budgets at NASA, the National Science Foundation, and an experimental energy research agency that was created under President George W. Bush, but never funded until now.
President Obama also expanded state kids‘ health insurance to cover another four million kids. He signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act amending the 1964 civil rights act for equal pay for equal work.
He signed a nuclear arms deal with Russia that would reduce both countries‘ arsenals by a third. He created a new global nonproliferation initiative to keep nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists. Another really BFD.
He set forth an international way forward on that radical left-wing proposition of Ronald Reagan, a world without nuclear weapons. Then there are the legislative and policy achievements that don‘t just build on previously-set precedents, but set new ones.
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act, also known as the Matthew Shepard Act. It had languished in Congress for years. The Food and Drug Administration permitted for the first time to regulate tobacco.
Better late than never, he dismantled the scandal-plagued Minerals Management Service, broke it into three parts so that the folks who collect money from oil leases aren‘t the same ones regulating the industry. … He overhauled the astonishing stupidity of the student loan system in which banks were being subsidized to give loans that were guaranteed by the government anyway, a license to print money. …
He canceled a weapons program that was bloated, unnecessary and totally irrelevant to either of our current wars, the F-22. …
In each of these achievements and in the list of things he has yet to do – “Don‘t Ask, Don‘t Tell,” closing Guantanamo – in each of these things, there is room for liberal disappointment. I sing a bittersweet lullaby to the lost public option when I go to sleep at night.
But presidential legacies are complex. Not even the Reagan administration‘s legacy is pure as the conservative-driven snow. But …the list of legislative accomplishments of this president in half a term even before energy reform which he‘s probably going to get to is, to quote the vice president, “a big freaking deal.” Love this administration or hate it, this president is getting a lot done.

I'm a US Army veteran. It was a bi*** to get a college degree because it's so hard to sit through these morons criticizing the military and everything that's good about this country. I managed to graduate because I didn't kill any of them. I did manage to humiliate a few of these people into shutting up, and it inspired some better discussions.
We have to take a stand in every area of our society and let these clowns know that we're fed up, and we won't take it anymore. That means cleaning up education and actually having an educated society.
