Despite the recession, Americans are still traveling. Yet under half have their travel choices influenced by online media. In fact, under half (47%) used the Internet to research travel services, found Ad-ology Research.
The Internet did, however, top traditional media in influencing travelers, which influenced 27% of travelers and 33% of those visiting local attractions.
The most-researched travel topic online was airfares (34% of U.S. Internet users), followed by hotel/motel rates and availability (30.4%), car rental (14.3%) and cruises (10.3%). The least-researched topic was golf vacations.
Blogs, forums, social networking websites and other social media were found to influence very few travelers overall – just 23%. Unsurprisingly, it is far more influential among 18-34 year olds where it influences the travel choices of 36%.
