Throughout his time as president, Barack Obama has made ample use of Saul Alinsky’s rules for political warfare. Alinsky’s Rule #5 states “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon,” while Rule #13 prescribes: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Obama has repeatedly mocked and belittled his political opponents, attempted to stifle dissent, and tried to delegitimize news outlets that do not adhere to his party line. Now, he has hired an employee to engage in the politics of personal destruction on behalf of his re-election campaign – at your expense.
Sam Stein of The Huffington Post reported on Monday that Obama had named Jesse C. Lee the first Director of Progressive Media & Online Response. Stein wrote his story based on “an internal memo from Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, provided to The Huffington Post.” The article noted, “Lee is a personal friend of Stein.”
Pfeiffer’s memo stated: “For the last two years, Jesse has often worn two hats working in new media and serving as the White House’s liaison with the progressive media and online community. Starting this week, Jesse will take on the second role full time working on outreach, strategy and response.”
The term “response” gives insight to Lee’s new duties; he is a full-time political hack posing as a federal employee.
Stein admitted this opaquely. “The post is a new one for this White House,” he wrote. “Rapid response has been the purview of the Democratic National Committee (and will continue to be).”
Lee’s work history proves he is well-trained as a partisan axe-wielder. His most recent job before becoming a federally funded public servant was “online communications for the Democratic National Committee” during the 2008 election. His White House biography states Lee previously worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee online from 2004-2006, then became Senior New Media Advisor to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
MoveOn.org received generous funding from George Soros. This author was the first to report that in December 2004, the organization’s political action committee MoveOn PAC boasted in an e-mail that the Democratic Party is “our Party: we bought it, we own it, and we’re going to take it back.”
The organization’s early support of Barack Obama helped the first-term Illinois senator upset presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton in the closest nomination contest since 1976.
Lee’s appointment is the latest example of the Obama administration using taxpayer-funded positions to silence his political foes.
In August 2009, the White House asked Americans to forward any “e-mail” about ObamaCare that “seems fishy” to email@example.com. Critics such as Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, accused the administration of “collecting names” for an enemies list, and Judge Andrew Napolitano stated the move violated the 1974 Privacy Act. Obama shut down the e-mail account two weeks later.
Dan Pfeiffer became Communications Director after replacing Anita Dunn in November 2009. Dunn had recently named Mao tse-Tung and Mother Theresa as “two of my favorite political philosophers.” Until that time, Dunn headed the administration’s war on the few media outlets that presented analysis critical of Obama. Dunn targeted Fox News, telling CNN, “let’s not pretend they’re a news network.”
FCC Diversity Czar, Mark Lloyd, has threatened “license challenges” against talk radio stations that are too conservative.
No administration official matches Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein’s zeal for censorship. In a paper entitled “Conspiracy Theories,” which he co-authored at Harvard Law School in 2008, Sunstein suggested “Government might ban conspiracy theorizing” or “might impose some kind of tax, financial or otherwise, on those who disseminate such theories.”
Congressman Darrell Issa deemed the Obama administration’s use of covert propaganda “unlawful” in a 36-page report he issued last summer. In it, he noted that the Justice Department hired Tracy Russo, a former blogger for John Edwards, to comment on internet articles or bulletin board messages that criticized Obama, which she did anonymously or under a pen name.
This, too, reflects Sunstein’s belief the government should “cognitively infiltrate” hostile organizations and discredit them from within.
Lee’s role will be open, presumably more in line with the combative role played by Anita Dunn.
Tied to Cass Sunstein’s free speech-squashing ideology, the influence of Sunstein’s wife Samantha Power, and that of Sunstein’s former employer Elena Kagan, this move to preemptively squash news is chilling. Even if Lee merely engages in spin doctoring, the fact that taxpayers were compelled to furnish his salary is outrageous.
Considering the job Barack Obama has done as president, the fact that we have to pay him a lifetime pension (unless he is impeached) is equally outrageous. But if he is re-elected, the cost may be incalculable.
