The Obama administration, despite the nation’s economic woes, effectively killed the job-producing Keystone Pipeline last month. The Arab Spring is turning the oil production of Libya and other Arab nations over to the Muslim Brotherhood. Iraq is distancing itself from the U.S. And everyone recognizes that Iran, whose crude supplies are critical to the European economy, will do anything it can to frustrate America’s strategic interests. In the face of all of this, Obama insists on cutting back U.S. oil potential with outrageous restrictions.
Part of Obama’s apparent war against U.S. energy independence includes a foreign-aid program that directly threatens my state’s sovereign territory. Obama’s State Department is giving away seven strategic, resource-laden Alaskan islands to the Russians. Yes, to the Putin regime in the Kremlin.
The seven endangered islands in the Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea include one the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The Russians are also to get the tens of thousands of square miles of oil-rich seabeds surrounding the islands. The Department of Interior estimates billions of barrels of oil are at stake.

I’m of the mind that this is one of Obama’s delusions and would not make it through congress. If he used an executive order to try and pull this off it would not be that difficult to obtain 67 members of the Senate to override this idiotic act. I’m betting Obama will never sign it…any takers?
J.C.
Yer on Jim. You dont suppose that something as ridiculous as the law could stop him do you?
Yea i agree. Until people truly start standing up to him nothing will ever happen.
Under whos watch?

sorry…. http://www.alaska.net/~logjam/give_away.html
What gives Obama any authority to give any property away, to any foreign nation, for any reason what-so-ever. The State Government of Alaska should be fighting Obama about this tooth and nail. This is not acceptable by any president to give away any property of any state to any foreign government period. Do I or anybody else hear the words giving Comfort and Aid to the Enemy, Treason does come to mind. Although we are not at war with the Soviet States any more this is still the property of the united states of America.
This giveaway has been going on since 2000. Even Bush tried to part with some of these islands and it never made it past Congress. He won’t get it past either, but he might just wave hos executive order wand and make it happen. You know Putin is bi-sexual too right?? Hey, he’s a good-looking dude (well ok I exaggerate about that a little) and he might like a little floppy eared marble cake for a change. Well I just made myself nauseated writing that comment. Sorry.
What giveaway? And what does this have to do with Obama or Putin? Check your facts!
1. These islands lie off the Arctic coast of Russia.
2. They were not part of the US purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867.
3. Although Americans were involved in discovering and exploring some of them, the US government has never claimed or asserted sovereignty over them. Tsarist Russia did, the USSR did, and today’s Russian Federation does. Over a period of some 100 years, the USA has never objected to the Russian or Soviet exercise of sovereignty over these islands.
4. The US-USSR maritime boundary agreement was signed in 1990, under the administrations of George Bush Sr. and Mikhail Gorbachev. The US Senate gave its advice and consent to its ratificationt in 1991. The USSR fell apart before it ratified it. Russia took over as the legal successor state to the USSR. In 1992, the USA and Russia (under the administrations of Bush and Yeltsin) exchanged diplomatic notes to provisionally apply the agreement until it was ratified by Russia. The two countries are still doing so today.
5. The maritime boundary agreement does not address the status of these islands.
And finally,
6. The Alaskan Supreme Court ruled in 1994 that the islands were not part of the State of Alaska.

Where was Congress on this one ?
The ***** CLOWN PRINCE – - O B U M E R ***** will do anything to destroy America.
Some one needs to ask some very pointed questions on this one ? Maybe a LAW SUIT or two might jar this blooming idiot into submission.
Look these up on Google Earth. They are in fact closer to Russia, but that does not determine ownership. In a practically sense, administration by Russia makes sense. Admittedly, the islands I could actually find were mere specks, except for Wrangle Island, but the oil rights for all are huge. And if my geography is right, those waters are frozen during good part of the winter. Nevertheless, we need the opportunity to drill for the oil until we are successful in developing a successful alternative energy supply. That may be decades away.
Your rant regarding is typical “believe whatever they tell you Democratic Party hype. There in no “reason” for keep a poorly run company in business. Some of the companies in question were revived, some liquidated, as they should have been. Just because the company is “there” doesn’t mean it should continue to be “there”, continuing to lose money, taking more and more people down with it.
We have bankruptcy laws to facilitate, alleviate and/or eliminate the incompetent businesses among us. When that happens the onus falls on all the participants in that business. Generally, when a company is incompetent, it is incompetent from the top down and the bottom up. Having worked for 2 companies that was somewhat incompetent, I can say from experience, that there a culture of incompetence within it. Some companies can be turned around and some need to go away. One of those 2 companies was saved and the other is no longer with us, as it shouldn’t be. And yes, a bunch of people lost their jobs, as it should also be.
There are three classes competent: 1. competent and conscientious, 2. Competent, but not conscientious and 3. incompetent and not conscientious. (Not conscientious = don’t give a rip, for which there is NO excuse. A paycheck was accepted, supposedly for a job done properly. Do the job right or quit. That may not be a legal requirement, but it is a moral one.)
And yes, there are some corporate raiders out there and I am not sure about the morality of that, I am still evaluating it, but at this time I am more against it than not.
