An omission in the Pledge of Allegiance had NBC issuing an on-air apology Sunday during the U.S. Open.
The network opened its broadcast with a montage that included children reciting the pledge, but the words “under God” and “indivisible” were omitted.
The backlash on social media was quick and harsh, with some tweets calling for a boycott of NBC.
“We began our coverage of this final round just about three hours ago, and when we did it was our intent to begin the coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being held in our nation’s capital for the third time,” announcer Dan Hicks told viewers. “Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone, and we’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.”

How does not favoring the addition of "under God" to the Pledge make someone a communist? I know it makes me angry because it has restricted a new generation from learning the Pledge and has dimmed their views as to what patriotism is._ Any one wuith half a brain has seen that communisim hasn't worked and doesn't work. Under communism you still have the have and haves not just like in any other society. In the US we have just had more freedoms in the passed compared to opther countries. Now days our government is moving at a fast pace to remove those freedoms.

"Under God" was added to the pledge in 1954 after a long battle with the far right who were trying to add it to the "PATRIOTIC" Pledge to the flag of America. By adding "Under God" to the pledge it has caused nothing but division.

I am an American and a Patriot andI support "In GOD we trust". I have no trouble with God any place else,but, by adding "Under God" to a pledge that is suppose to support PATRIOTISM, it has created just the opposit. There are young people out there that do not even know the "PLEDGE" because of it. I suggest we go back to what it was before it lost its meaning.
I also favor Christmas displays at public places as well as displays of other relgious groups at their times. I do not much care for Islamic displays because I do not regard Islam as a religious group but a form of government like the Spanish Inquisition I.E., Sharia Law.

I join others in a boycott of NBC and all its sponsors.. I have removed NBC and MSNBC from my entertainment favorites list on my TV.. I have already written down major sponsors on NBC and will avoid them like a plague until they withdraw their support of NBC..

The Pledge was written in 1892 by a social ist, Francis Bellamy who, despite also being a pastor, didn't include anything about God. "Under God" was added more than 60 years later with the Red Scares of the 1950s.
Bellamy considered adding "equality," but too many people opposed equal rights for women and people of color. You know, like Wal-Mart.

NBC, years ago I use to gather my news by them, and I'm surprise they are still around. They say that they meant no harm by leaving out 'UNDER GOD", and "INDIVISIBLE", I don't believe them. What I mean is, that word "GOD" seem's to make quite a few people upset, as if it hurt's thier eyes, or thier ears when they see or hear that word. Now days they believe that they are politically correct if they leave out that scarey word, "GOD". What it is, it convicts those of thier SINS, so to remove that word "GOD" they don't have to feel guilty when they do something that they know is wrong. Well, Mr NBC if you think that you don't have many viewers now, guess what, I believe you will have much more less viewers in the very near future, so get your resume's together, it soon will be adios time. I quit watching NBC quite a few years back for this very type of reason. They are godless and play to the godless. I also quit using General Electric products because GE is the parent company of NBC. Sometimes its hard to discern just which products and services are or are not associated with the GE family. When I do I stop buying or using them. Americans would do well to do the same.

When you forget to do something, you may claim it to be an oversight, in truth or otherwise, and you may apologize and everything is fine. When you INTENTIONALLY omit something, and editing words out of a video has to be intentional, you just can't issue an apology and expect anyone to accept it. The action was intentional and anti-American in nature. There is no excuse. There will be no acceptance of any apology. Iff the reader is smart, you will just write NBC off as an extinct network. Why is it un- American to omit something that wasn't meant to be there in the first place? Leaving out indivisible was bad I admit, but, the far right, by placing under God, in the pledge, had already negated the word, indivisable in 1954.
"Under God" is part of the pledge, whether you like it or not. I cannot understand your reference to this negating "indivisible" unless you believe that because you don't believe in God, you are somehow being separated from the rest of the country.
