The tolerant left can’t wait to start attacking Mitt Romney for his religious beliefs. For a preview of the bigotry to come, listen to these outrageous comments by MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell. This type of religious intolerance should be punished with dismissal, but it is hard to fire your mouthpiece when he is likely following a script from the left-wingers who run the network.

I have a problem with Romney’s “religion” (cult) and this video helps explain it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO9_3Cu8cEA&feature=youtu.be
If you’re saying the Warren Jeffs kind of cult you’re right. They’re the radicals. I’ve got friends that are Latter Day Saints and have been to church with them many times and I haven’t seen anything much different than my own religion.
stevor, and anyone else reading these comments,
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ (aka Mormons), it makes me incredibly sad to see reports like the one from O’Donnell that are unfounded and totally false. My church often takes criticism for things that we supposedly believe or do that are in fact not true. I was disgusted and shocked to hear O’Donnell’s report for many reasons including the fact that he claims to be a reporter but will apparently read anything that is put in front of him. Don’t believe everything you hear on TV or the internet, especially from MSNBC.
I’ll never forget how when I was going through Utah in 1984 I met a white family that adopted a black boy. The father told me how they prayed that the black boy would turn white because it was the Mormon belief that blacks were “bad”.
Can you imagine how this boy felt when he DID NOT turn white?
To this day I wonder how he turned out.
THAT is just one ridiculous thing about Mormonism.
Here’s a few others: Joseph Smith found these special goggles that read some special hieroglyphics on some HEAVY gold tablets that ought not to have been able to lift. Then there’s how (as the video said and I heard previous to the video) the Elite Mormons will get their own planet to be god (not God) over and have their wives be under them as there are slaves or some other lesser folk to rule over.
Then there’s how they “baptize” DEAD PEOPLE day and night, despite those folks NOT being Mormon, into the Mormon cult.
Oh yeah, Joseph Smith’s parents are CON ARTISTS and Joseph, himself, DIED in jail because he was found to follow in his parents’ footsteps. Geez, wouldn’t that be enough of a clue to folks that it is all a SHAM that was just created so men could have as many wives as they wanted?
There’s probably more reasons that I’ve heard over the years but these, by themselves, show Mormonism is wacko.
As I finished my last reply about Mormonism, it reminded me of another crazy “Christian religion”, Catholicism. I say that as one who was Raised Catholic and did all the “sacraments”.
The Catholics didn’t use the bible but used their missals. They preached in Latin so nobody had a clue what was being said, just rote trying to duplicate the correct words that had no meaning. They have LOTS of statues, especially of Mary, when Christians are NOT supposed to have such IDOLS. They have venial and mortal sins when a sin is a sin. They have their rosary that “praying” is like an eastern religious chant. They call their priest, “father” when the bible directly says NOT to call them that. They used to CHARGE money to have their priests pray for the dead to get them from purgatory (totally made up by Catholics) to heaven.
Those are just off the top of my head. Martin Luther wrote a whole list of the problems with the Catholic religion.
So, don’t take it personal. It’s not about the “regular Mormons”. It’s about the Elite such as Mitt Romney.
On another note, have you ever gotten to go into their high church or whatever it is called? I doubt it because that’s supposedly for the Elite who are the REAL Cultists!
stevor,
Wow, where do I start. I’m not going to get in an argument over the claims that you’re making about “Mormonism”, but I will tell you where you are wrong. I don’t have any motive by writing this other than to defend the truth. It really bothers me when people spread lies about something (intentionally or not) that they are unfamiliar with.
First of all, the story about the black boy. Come on, any person with a lick of common sense can tell that they are wackos. Who really prays for someone’s skin color to change and any intelligent person would not care what color of skin someone has anyway. All I can say about them is, there are some bad apples in every barrel, LDS included. We accept all of God’s children. In fact the church is now around 14 million strong and growing rapidly. These members are in just about every country in the world.
About the gold plates… It sounds like you may have caught a Southpark episode or something. Goggles?? The gold plates were simply a record, much like the Bible, that was written by ancient prophets of God. These prophets and their peoples lived in the Americas between 600BC and 400AD and wrote their records on these plates for longevity purposes. The records were translated in to the Book of Mormon. Quite an interesting read from a religious and historical standpoint if you’re interested. This for is another witness of Jesus Christ. It does not and never will replace the Bible.
We believe in eternal progression after this life. The whole planet thing, that’s obviously crazy. I don’t claim to know everything God has in store for his children after this life, but I can guarantee that it does not include reigning over some “lesser folk”. That is ridiculous.
If you’re Christian, like me, then you believe in the Bible. Baptism for the dead was discussed in 1 Corinthians 15:29. You are very confused on what baptisms for the dead are and why they are performed. Performing these proxy baptisms for people who are deceased is performed so that they (if they would like) have the option of accepting Christ after this life. This subject has been in the news recently because of famous people who have passed being baptized. Generally speaking, these baptisms are kept within one’s family lines.
Look, the whole paragraph where you talked about Joseph Smith’s family… you can’t be further than the truth. His parents where good, God fearing, church going people. He was raised reading the bible ever night with his family. I don’t know where you got this “con artist” idea from??? Joseph Smith was killed in a jail in Carthiage IL at the age of 32. He was jailed on multiple occasions because people thought he and the other members of the church were a threat. Of course, they were never a threat in any way. The men who killed him were frightened, full of hate, or something else. They blackened their faces with soot so no one could tell who they were before they assaulted the jail. Who had something to hide here?
My opinion of Mit Romney is mixed. If he ends up getting the Republican nomination, I will vote for him simply because I don’t want President Obama in office. I will never vote for someone because of their religion.
By the way Mormonism is NOT a cult or even close to one. Just to clarify, there is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Mormons or LDS) and there is the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (recently renamed Community of Christ). The latter is a split off of the original and is not the same. The former does not practice polygamy. If you want the true story about Mormons, go to LDS.org and start reading, and please don’t post stuff you THINK is correct, but in reality is not. Research first!!
Please ask me if you have any questions about the church, I’d be glad to answer them.
Everything I said is true. I know EX-Mormons who FINALLY saw the light and are now un-indoctrinating Mormons.
So, you can’t address the goggles, hieroglyphics and gold tablets because they’re the BASIS of Mormonism and totally Preposterous!
It cracks me up when people who aren’t members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints think they know more about the church than its members. stevor clearly has an agenda here and is not willing to listen to an actual member. Perhaps he has been offended by a member of the church in the past and is holding a grudge? In any case, I DID address the so called “goggles, hieroglyphics and gold tablets” in my last post so I’m not sure what else to tell you about that. The “basis” of Mormanism is Jesus Christ. He is our savior and the only way to God. Like I said before, if you want the real scoop on the Mormons, go to the church’s website, LDS.org and read for yourself. 99% of Mormons are good, well rounded, common sense people and just about anyone who knows one will agree.
Sure, you addressed “goggles” by typing, “Goggles??” Yeah, that’s really “addressing it”.
No, you did NOT address the “special” hieroglyphics that nobody has seen before or afterward. Obviously, you are AVOIDING the foundings of your CULT!
I would say, “nice try, though”, but it was a
OOR try!
You’re funny man! You’re not listening to what I’m saying so I’ll stop trying after this post. It’s obviously a waist of time. One of the most important things in religion is faith. I think it is very important to study things out as much as possible, then pray to God and listen to the feelings and promptings that he gives us. After all that is done, there may or may not be a gap of understanding. This gap can only be filled with faith. Faith based on what we feel when we pray and think about the things in question. If we are left with a feeling of confusinon or doubt then it’s probably not a true thing, but if the feelings are good and our thoughts are clear the thing is likely true.
I wonder what anyone would have to do with a so called cult?? What motivation does one have for belonging to an orginization like that. It’s riliculous to think that someone would devote their time to such a thing so again I would recommend reading up on things that you clearly don’t understand. Belonging to Christ’s church has brought me more happiness than I can describe with words and I would never deny its truth. Arguing about this subject won’t convince either of us of anything. If you want to understand more about it, I told you where to look.
Lots of groups have “faith” only to be led down the wrong path by their leader. Jim Jones and his CULT is a similar example.
Sure, don’t bother to question your religion. A POOR religion can’t withstand questioning. I’m a Christian (not LDS or Catholic) and question things and investigate them. The Bible proves TRUE all the time!
THAT is wrong with unquestioning faith. Obama wants that of everybody and THAT is a MAJOR problem with him. He didn’t even want folks to doubt his word about whether the court system could overrule a bad law by Congress but LUCKILY folks didn’t just believe him (well, the Democrats probably did since they’re pretty much brain dead) but as the saying goes, “question everything”!
DEFINITELY question Romney since he’s a mini-Obama just as Gingrich is. They’re all OWNED by the Elite (which also owned both Bushes and Clinton) and due to NOT QUESTIONING, we’re likely to come under a dictator.
I can defend my religion all day long, very effectively I might add. But, what I’ve learned over the years is defending it to people who aren’t willing to listen is useless. You mentioned Jim Jones… The best way to tell if something is good or not is by its fruits. His fruits were bad. If you’d take the time to actually examine what the LDS church has done you’d see that its fruits are good. I couldn’t agree with you more about the Bible. It does prove true all the time. It is true scripture. We use the King James Version. I also couldn’t agree with you more about unquestioning faith. You described exactly what I said about faith. You hear something, think about it, research it (you may need to try this step a bit more with the LDS faith), pray about it with a sincere heart, then listen to the Holy Ghost for an answer. I question ever thing our church leaders say. It’s how God set up his church. He expects us to question, how else can we grow? I fully agree on all points you made about the President. I am also very aware of the risks our country is under. There is an underlying force embedded in our government that has been growing stronger over the years. I’m glad to hear you are passionate about maintaining the principles our country was founded on. So are you planning on voting for Santorum? I’m worried he won’t have the funds to go up against the President. I think our priority is to get him out of office.
Nice try, Larry O’Donnell, but Mitt Romney’s Mormanism won’t be (and shouldn’t be) any more of a problem for him than Jack Kennedy’s Catholicism was for him. Our Constitution has no religious litmus test for any public office, to include presidency of the US.
I have two questions for that imbecile:
1. Was Muslim an optional choice for the question?
2. Was atheist an option?
Since the totals of those “choices” weren’t presented, I would assume Larry Dinner-bell was just showing his anti-Republican Party bona-fides.
