SIDNEY, Ohio (OfficialWire) — The mother of a former Navy SEAL killed in Libya has called on Mitt Romney to stop talking about her son during his political campaign.
A spokesman for the Republican presidential candidate says Romney will respect her wishes.
Romney in recent days has been telling voters of chance encounter with the former SEAL, Glen Doherty, at a Christmas party two or three years ago. Doherty was among four Americans killed in the attacks in Benghazi.
Romney told the story of his chance encounter with Doherty at least twice in the last two days as part of a larger push to show a more personal side and criticize President Barack Obama’s foreign policy. Romney, like other Republicans, have repeatedly raised questions about the president’s handling of the Sept. 11 attack.
Indeed, the Benghazi terrorist strike that left U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens dead was a centerpiece of Romney’s high-profile foreign policy speech at the Virginia Military Institute earlier in the week.
On Wednesday, Doherty’s mother, Barbara Doherty, told Boston television station WHDH that she wanted Romney to stop citing her son.

I’m so sorry about the mother’s who lost their sons……I’m so thankful my son came home.
I believe if countries want to fight the leaders and only the leaders of those countries fight it out !
Why the hell should our sons fight their battles !?!?!? Our politicians get paid better than our sons in the service, better paid, and better medical !?!?!?
I went on to read the rest of this story and the reason she wanted romney to stop talking about her son was she thought it was putting obama down.. I think this woman is out of her mind.. obama killed her son.. i know that she is heart broken but she should be furious that it was obama’s fault. and now he cant decide wether or not to retaliate.. UNBIELEVABLE!!!
Has Obama even acted as though he knows her son was killed in Benghazi? Has he attempted to talk to her? Does she unerstand that he and the state department knew what was going on and ignored the Americans. Does she not understand that if they had paid attention her son would probably still be alive?

Maybe she is still mourning his death. Maybe she got a call from obama asking her to tell Mitt to stop. Maybe both.
Maybe she is a clueless liberal! They never seem to have common sense.
I’m really sorry for her loss BUT we have to get to the bottom of this horrible lack of protection for our “men”.

If she is asking out of respect for her son yes absolutely he should, if she really asked him to not mention his name because she is an obamao supporter then NO.
I can’t imagine the pain this mother feels right now, but to blame Romney for this, is just wrong. Obama and his State Department are responsible for this tragedy. It is obvious to me, that she is an Obama supporter and is blind to what he’s done!
I was sympathetic to her loss but when I saw why she wanted him to stop I was dumbfounded. That is ridiculous of her to do that. Obama is the reason she does not have her som with her any more and she is worried that he is being brought down by Mr. Romney talking about him. Her son, Glen, who was in the fighting in the attack that killed Ambassador Stevens also, would support what Mr Romney is saying. He is honoring Glen and the others that were killed and calling Obama out on this incident where they were asked for more security and were denied. Shameful actions.
Romney is honoring her son and the others that were murdered. that’s more than Obama could be bothered to do. He was laughing it up on the David Letterman Show, nd hurrying aroundf to get to the taping of the View. He could not be bothered with trival things like honoring her son or anyone else. What a dork!

Good Grief! I feel sorry for this mother but what is her problem??!!! It is not Romney who denied extra security that may have helped her son it was OBummer Administration. Come on lady get it together. Romney was being very positive about her son and talking about how he admired him and how he was a very nice man. Why would the mother have a problem with that. Seems to me she is a confused woman & I am not sure her son would have agreed w/her.
I guess she thinks Obama is a great president and Hilary is a great secretary of state. W ho knows what’s in her mind?
