The release of hundreds of illegal immigrants into a federal monitoring system this week may be an ongoing headache for the Obama administration, as Republicans focus their scrutiny on uncovering potential missteps.
Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, “will be aggressively examining the ramification of this decision,” according to a committee aide.
And Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.), the top Republican on the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on homeland security, pressed Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to take more responsibility for the releases, which she says she did not know about beforehand.
“I am concerned that you have chosen to distance yourself from the actions of ICE,” said Coats in a letter to Napolitano on Friday. “As Secretary of Homeland Security, you have a responsibility to oversee the proper management of the department’s resources. I believe you should have been on top of this situation and taken steps far earlier to prevent this action.”
Napolitano will undoubtedly be pressed on the issue when she comes to testify on cybersecurity next Wednesday before Rep. Mike McCaul’s (R-Texas) House Homeland Security Committee. ICE Director John Morton promised to answer McCaul’s letter to him earlier this week in which he raised questions about exactly how many detainees had been released and what tools ICE was using to track illegal immigrants, a committee aide said.

Lets see now—-we have fast and furrious giving guns to anybody. Then we have gun grab, take guns away from constitutional lawful owners. We complain that our govt will not close borders and remove illegal residents and the govt releases into the masses the few illegals they did remove from the street. if anything is ever to be done to solve the crisis it must be done soon., A plentiful labor supply, i.e. illegal unskilled immigrants, will always keep the labor market full. Raise the minimum wage? What does that accomplish but raise production costs and increase commensurate costs. Every time i have seen a slight increase in social security, the cost of living has gone up even more What is cheap labor worth when it is subsidized with free medical, foodstamps, rfental assistance and the other social programs, not mention those costs associated with the unemplopyed American citizen who is displaced by this “cheap labor”?
The only thing to do is start at the top with those inflated salaries of the politicians who give away our tax dollars so freely and do not do their jobs. The potus for example gets a salary of $400,000 a year which comes to over $1,000 a day. Now that may not sound like a lot to some of you but this old boy could live well on $1,000 a day even without the $150,000 additional expense account and the other free bennies. Then we have our elected representatives who refuse to defy the opposition when legislation is enacted detrimental to the American people or when our potus openly defies our constitution. Whenagenc ies of our government are forbidden to perform the duties for which they paid i.e., ICE releases thousands of illegal aliens into the areas where they were apprehended. Now I may be wrong but all 3 of these examples to me are a flagrant violation of what we as taxpayers, we as “the governed” SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPECT. We as Americans owe the Egyptians nothing, the Libyans nothing, the Iraqies nothing. We do however, owe the Chinese a large portion of $16.5 trillion. Has everyone forgotten the Chinese are Communist? Back when i remember this country being stron the Communists were our “enemy”. What happens when they call in their note? Just food for thought
Aw, let the poor 5,000 + illegals go. Since the ’80′s with all the amnesties given, there are about 30 to 50 million illegals (estimates vary widely) in this country. What’s another pound to an elephant?
