In a display of the arrogance of power for which the left have become so well known, Democrat El Paso Mayor John Cook decided not only to overrule the results of a 2010 ballot decision, he is hoping to jail those who dared circulate a recall petition in response to his contempt for the will of the voters.
In 2009, Mayor Cook and a majority of the El Paso city council decided that health insurance benefits should be provided for unmarried and homosexual “partners” of city employees, at taxpayer expense of course. Church groups and others opposed to the decision gathered the necessary petition signatures to put the issue on the 2010 ballot.
By a 55-45 margin, El Paso voters passed the ballot proposition which stated: “The city of El Paso endorses traditional family values by making health benefits available only to city employees and their legal spouse and dependent children.”
The left have often evinced a glaring lack of concern for the will of American voters, and Mayor Cook carried on this tradition by ignoring the ballot results and choosing to provide the health benefits anyway.
As a result, Tom Brown Ministries, the Word of Life Church, and other groups and individuals circulated recall petitions for Cook and the city council members who chose to impose their own views rather than bow to the legal, expressed wishes of El Paso voters.
And the people’s recall initiative succeeded as, with the required number of signatures and necessary approval of Governor Rick Perry, a new election was scheduled for April of this year.
Naturally, Mayor Cook went to court, filing suit against Brown and those who worked on the recall petitions. After all, should the wishes of simpleton voters actually begin to take precedence over the will of those who know what is best—that is, Democrat politicians– the ramifications for the agenda of the left would be disastrous!
But Judge Javier Alvarez ruled in favor of Brown and the people of El Paso, stating that he did not believe it proper for a judge to overrule the expressed will of the people at the ballot box.
Still claiming the utmost respect for the wishes of El Paso voters, Cook filed restraining orders against Brown. He turned Tom Brown Ministries over to the IRS, claiming that the church had violated the law concerning its status as a non-taxable organization.
And finally, a Texas court of Appeals took up the Mayor’s cause, finding in favor of Cook, throwing out the recall notice, and cancelling the recall election. And the reason given by the court—“laws regulating political-action committees and corporate political activities had been broken.” Apparently, a website, though not owned by Brown Ministries, had somehow improperly assisted in gathering supporters of the recall effort.
So there will be no recall election. Mayor Cook will probably get by with ignoring El Paso voters and the will of the constituents he was elected to serve.
And incredibly, a Texas prosecutor has now decided to pursue church members and others who helped in the recall petition drive. The Alliance Defense Fund, which has filed a petition with the Texas Supreme Court on their behalf, states that hundreds of Christians and other El Paso citizens “are facing jail time for exercising their constitutionally protected right to speak out against Mayor John Cook’s policies.”
The left must, after all, make examples of those who would dare take a stand against them. Having served the 2 term limit as El Paso Mayor, Cook will be forced to leave office at the end of the year. It will be interesting to see if he decides to stay on and imprison anyone who doesn’t like it!

what is very strange about the left, currently there are some 39 states that are trying to enact voter ID to stop fraud. The left is saying this will surpress the vote bkz many people (poor) don’t have ID, (I hear different states are coming up with different ideas for photo id) phote ID that is. Anyway College ID which is being rejected – as it should be- what a joke my now 24 year old had gotton when 20 an ID made for $25.00 with a birth date making her 22yr old…anyway Gun Permits (which are issued by the state gvt, not a school which are easy to re-do) are o’k and the left is upset. I say if you’re poor and getting asst. from gvt. food stamps, housing etc…the welfare dept should provide u with a state issued photo ID….MY point is they cry over voter surpression but when the people Vote and it’s NOT in the way they want they ignore the will of the people…OMG can we make the loons go away?
The thing is, the Supreme Court has already ruled on voter ID laws, approving that of Indiana in Crawford v Marion County Election Board in 2008. The law–one of the most strict in the nation–requires all who wish to vote in person to have a picture ID produced by the State.
Although there is of course more to the case, the point is Eric Holder and his criminal DOJ just barred the Texas voter ID law today using the Voting Rights Act as an excuse! The Act was not created to enable different laws between northern and southern states, but to make certain laws were all Constitutional, as some in the South had not been.
Holder ignored the will of Texas legislators and Supreme Court precedent in order to enable illegals and others to practice voter fraud in Texas. It’s not exactly a secret! And thugs like Holder get by with it because Republicans in the House and Senate are such gold plated wusses!! Has anyone heard McConnell or Boehner stating Holder is supporting voter fraud by his ruling? NO! And you can damned well bet you won’t!!
By the way, has anyone heard that Boehner will be seeking a contempt of congress charge against Holder for his refusal to produce some 80,000 subpoenaed documents for the Fast and Furious investigation??

The mayor, an avowed Communist and the Court of Appeals have committed treason and must be arrested for high crimes and misdemeanors. This is a hanging offense, the will of the people rein supreme and as such must gather in mass and put violators of the Constitution in jail where they belong. Governor Perry must send in the National Guard to uphold the Constitutional rights of the people and detain the criminal mayor, remove him from office and hold him and the Appeals Court over for trial on charges of treason, which calls for capital punishment! Time to take off the gloves. If the Governor doesn’t do it the people will! Time for someone with a sack to step up!

The petitioners should collectively make citizens arrests on the Mayor and any police officer that stands in their way and throw the mayor in jail so they can hold an honest election and elect the mayor of their choice. There should be a groundswell of patriots who speak out now against this Mayor and the courts who sided with him as well as the prosecutor. I wonder how large his jails may be or if he will build more to accomodate the citizens of his community who do not agree with him. The Battle of Athens (sometimes called the McMinn County War) was a rebellion led by citizens in Athens and Etowah, Tennessee, United States, against the tyrannical local government in August 1946. The event is sometimes cited by firearms ownership (Second Amendment) advocates as an example of the value of the Second Amendment in combating tyranny.

If you want to challenge your income and property taxes in your local municipality, county, state or federal gov’t Google or inquire as to where are the Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFRs or AFRs). These documents are the 2nd set of books–that are NOT the budget. They show all of the assets, investments and cash that the government entity/agency is concealing from the taxpayers. This is surplus monies invested as assets or cash that has been unlawfully taken from taxpayers and used to line the pockets of politicians and their friends.
Before any government can ask for income or property tax increases everyone must demand that the government open all of its books, including the CAFRs or AFRs and demand that the government use a ZERO-BALANCED budget and use the monies in investments and cash before even considering asking for tax increases.
In fact, when all of the investments and assets would be used in a ZERO-BALANCED budget, all income and property taxes would go down by 75%-100% every year!!!!!!!!!! Government should have no assets or investments left at the end of every fiscal year. Keeping these monies secreted and hidden from public view and then extorting more taxes (property & income) is criminal fraud, extort, theft and racketeering. It is a direct violation of the 5th Amendment Takings Clause whereby government must pay you for taking your property. By taking taxes through extortion, lies, fraud, deception, etc., while sitting on BILLIONS, if not TRILLIONS, in cash and investments, government is the criminal.
That is why little despots like the El Paso mayor feel they can push taxpayers around. Everyone needs to demand that their government turn over all of the monies hidden in the CAFRS and demand total property and income tax reduction.
The federal government is a contract administrator for the several sovereign states.
The states are not “subdivisions”. They are sovereign states and need to act like sovereign states. The only way for the people to regain control of the federal government is through the states.
If a state becomes corrupt or tyrannical, it can be isolated and cured. People can go to other states. When the federal government becomes corrupt or tyrannical, the entire union is oppressed, and amelioration is much more difficult. An order might be sought in federal court to restore a republican form of government to Texas. I assume that El Paso is a Texas corporation and Texas is responsible for the mayor’s violation of the directives of the People.
