My fellow Americans of all colors and creeds, this proposal will offend some and comfort others. It is offered in the spirit of fulfilling the pledge E Pluribus Unum: ” Out of Many One. “
I propose we rename the annual February observance known as Black History Month. My suggestion is: “American History Month.”
Historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded its precursor, Negro History Week, in 1926, at the height of open racism against American Blacks.
It was unquestioned that we were written out of American history, and what was said wasn’t very flattering. The observance evolved into a month-long intensive recognition of our contributions to this country and humanity.
Generations of heroic sacrifice by ourselves and allied Americans have reloaded the nation today, where we are more informed about ourselves than at any time.
I propose we take this February observance and make it an exploration of how we’ve upgraded from outcasts to citizenship.
Black History Month partisans will obviously howl heresy!
They’ll say that removing its ethnic focus robs us of precious self-knowledge yet again.
I counter that if we cannot present ourselves as Americans finally, then all legal enfranchisement efforts were in vain.
The idea of a Black History Month in a post-segregation America smacks of separatism to a population made to bear the burden of past racism.
Renaming Black History Month would be the final olive branch needed to end a racial cold war between American Blacks and Whites, which must end if America is to bury large-scale racism forever.
American History Month wouldn’t whitewash the Black presence in America.
It would welcome the American presence of Blacks as finally part of her body politic- not as ironically self-imposed outcasts a generation after full enfranchisement.
How does this sound throughout February 2013?:
“Happy American History Month!”

That sounds great to most people I am sure, I know it does to me but ,Obama,Sharpton,Jackson and all the other race card people would NEVER let that happen. Those people keep getting richer and richer by keeping racism alive. How would they live the lifestyles they do now without it??
Jackson I know personally is a millionaire now because of racism.
Obama has done a beautiful job bringing those good ole racist people out of the woodwork and is setting the relations back as far as he can! I’m sure he is very,very proud of himself ! That’s about all he’s capable of doing….destroying things,yep he’s an expert at that.
I suggested that about 5 years ago. We do not have a Caucasian, Asian, Russian, Jewish, German, etc History months. Renaming it to American History month would be politicaly correct. We are Americans. not Africans Americans, Europian Americans, German Americans, Irish Americans etc. You get my drift. Besides the is no such thing as a pure gene pool. Whether we were created or evolved incest prevailed for many years and people multiplied and replentished the Earth.

I know the comparisons are odious, but, I wish that Black people would compare themselves in a physical way to the white. Firstly black people have been blessed with that wonderful sense called RHYTHM. White people to not have it and stupidly call it “tempo”… Thus black people have musicality and soul…. I wish I was black just to be inherited, because then I would have, the wonderful sense of rhythm…Discords lead to war and that is what teh ayatollah barack hussein obama wants – the time is nearing to play the end chess game
Maybe you might want to think about moving to Washington or Colorado barbpatton because it is rumored that gangi can make you slide and glide like Americans of African descent do. Or maybe it just makes you think you can, who knows? Who cares? Anyway, excellent idea Mr. CapBlack. Remove the festering splinter of racism and let’s let hurt feelings and old attitudes begin to heal. By pointing out ones ethnic group to anothers tends to rub others noses in a separatist form of thinking.
Rename black history month, scamming, I’m owed, racecard throwing boon month
If this is a great idea WHY wont the blacks just do it. Most of them from the hnic on down keep playing the race card. The jackasson, notsosharptons etc just keep fanning the fire! There will never be equality as long as the real race pushers refuse to accept the truth! Never mind they will not do that because they have made a fortune keeping their own kind stirred UP.
There should never been a black history month, it;s racist against the whites. Who in the hell ever thought up black history month?? DUMB
In science it is the human race so we could call in human history. Or Americana history this would be more correct as all the hyphens are then automatically included.
While we are at it, let’s rename the NAACP, United Negro College Fund, the New Black Panthers and the Congressional Black Caucus – or let’s have a NAAWP, United Caucasian College Fund, the New White Panthers and Congressional White Caucus.

Most blacks don’t even know any “black history” except for slavery and maybe a few notable personages of the past like George Washington Carver. They refuse to learn anything because that will make them a target of the lowlife savage element that sneer and hate any black that dares to “act white”.
I know several colleges who have courses called Black Studies. I took 2 semesters of Black Studies at San Diego Mesa College.
