Monday night, CBS kicks off “Afghanistan: The Road Ahead,” a three-day series that will consume more than half of each night’s evening newscast.
“A ton of elbow grease and resources have gone into this,” anchor Katie Couric said of the network’s ambitious project, which also runs on “The Early Show,” CBS Radio News and CBSNews.com.
Couric says that although Tuesday marks the eight-year anniversary of the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, the media’s coverage of the war has been inconsistent, largely overshadowed by the war in Iraq. Now the network has “an opportunity to provide a real public service” when it comes to the pivotal issues of counterinsurgency strategy and troop strength in the region.
