Judge Prohibits N.C.’s Pro-life License Plate

abortion is not health care1 Judge prohibits N.C.s pro life license plate

A U.S. District Judge in North Carolina recently stymied the state’s pro-life residents interested in purchasing a special license plate sharing the simple message: “Choose Life.”

Calling the design unconstitutional, the judge explained that North Carolina “offering … a ‘Choose Life’ license plate in the absence of a pro-choice plate constitutes viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.”

The same judge previously filed a preliminary injunction – which has now been made permanent – to stop production of the plates.

Unsurprisingly, the case resulted from a lawsuit by the ACLU in 2011 seeking the inclusion of a pro-abortion alternative to the plate.

An ACLU spokesperson called the ruling “a great victory for the free speech rights of all North Carolinians, regardless of their point of view on reproductive freedom.”

As a former resident of the Tar Heel State, I beg to differ. Free speech does not exist only when all possible voices are heard.

North Carolina also offers an “Animal Lovers” license plate. Judging by the logic of the lunatic left, the state should be in violation of the Constitution for not similarly producing a plate for drivers who despise animals – regardless of whether a market for such a product exists.

Though the plates were set for production after being requested by at least 300 individuals, the judge’s temporary injunction halted that process. Now that the injunction is permanent, reports indicate that state’s attorneys are considering an appeal of the decision.

In my opinion, our nation has descended into a moral bankruptcy from which I doubt we will ever emerge – at least in my lifetime.

To be sure, this case is just one of countless indicators that traditional American values are largely dismissed by our current leaders. The judge’s decision warrants some attention, though, because it highlights the left’s moral relativism in dealing with abortion and other social issues.

One cannot advocate for the protection of life without enduring the diametrically opposite view of those preoccupied with ending life. Not only is this the social norm in today’s America; a district judge in North Carolina has ruled it is the law.

  1. Does anybody in the North Carolina govt have the courage to request that a comparable license plate withe the slogan “Choose Death” and showing and aborted fetus, to nullify the claim of bias, and see how many request they get for that plate.. This is rediculous. If they provide a plate that says “Choose Death”, then they can not ban the plate that says “Choose Life”.

  2. This judge is nothing but an anti-life, child-killing bigot. He doesn’t believe in Life. It’s as simple as that. The pro-death forces will lie, slander and malign anyone who opposes them. They don’t have truth in them and this judge is part of the pro-death culture who probably got paid off by them to rule in their favor no matter how ridiculous or how wrong the ruling is. It’s also a violation of free speech protected under the Frist Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

  3. I say make the Choose Death plate. I really don’t think the ones that would support it would actually put it on their precious vehicles for fear of what could happen to the vehicles if it is seen by a Pro Life person. LOL I would think there would be a lot more of pro life plates out there. Put a picture of a healthy baby on the pro life plate. That way they can’t say we were doing anything less that them.

  4. This is the modern day moronic judges; a product of our society and likely one of Bill Ayers students in college or someone from the same era. So now anyone who wants a pro-life license plate must have it read Pro-Life, followed by, unless you want an abortion. People with this insane logic are the ones that started the “disclaimer craze” where everything must be worded for the “illiterate”, mentally challenged, which is absurd because if they are illiterate then they can’t read the “disclaimer”. Case in point, the “self-cleaning” oven with a disclaimer, but you have to wipe the area of residue after the cycle.

  5. Well the good ole cumminist won again! all of those old judges should be thrown out!
