When he was running for president, Barack Obama promised to “beat back the politics of fear.” Yesterday, his vice president told a crime-ridden, bankrupt Michigan city that if the American Jobs Bill does not pass untold scores of people will be raped and murdered.
Speaking at Fire Station One in Flint, Michigan, Joe Biden said a high crime rate and the failure to pass Obama’s $447 billion proposal create a “mixture for cancer” — and that cancer is here. We’ve got trouble right here in River City!
“If anyone listening doubts there’s a direct correlation between the reduction of cops and firefighters and the rise in concerns about public safety they need look no further than your city, Mr. Mayor,” he said to a visibly unflattered Mayor Dayne Walling, himself a Democrat.
In 2008, when Flint had 265 sworn officers on their police force, there were 35 murders and 91 rapes in this city. In 2010, when Flint had only 144 police officers, the murder rate climbed to 65 and rapes–just to pick two categories–climbed to 229. In 2011, you now only have 125 shields. God only knows what the numbers will be this year for Flint if we don’t rectify it. And God only knows what that number would have been had we not been able to get a little bit of help to you.
The FBI states Biden’s speech — which probably won’t be featured on any Flint tourism brochure — got the numbers wrong. However, the city has an embarrassingly high crime rate.
Biden based his die-atribe on the fact that the almost half-trillion “jobs” bill includes $5 billion for cities to employ police and first responders, for one year. Rush Limbaugh responded yesterday.

The political silly season began when Obama decided to kick off the 2012 campaign early in his September speech-and-list-of-demands that Congress “pass this bill.” Knowing it stood no chance of passage, he could campaign, Harry Truman-style, against the “Do Nothing Congress.” Unfortunately, it was Obama’s stimulus that did nothing, leaving unemployment at astronomical — or, to use Maxine Waters’ phrase, “unconscionable” — levels for as far as the eye can see. Indeed, the Labor Department reported today that seasonally adjusted first-time jobless claims reached 404,000 this week alone.
Biden is frantically pushing the administration’s narrative that Congressional Republicans are blocking a vote on a bill that would resurrect the economy. But there is a dangerous assumption behind the administration’s harried scare tactics. Biden and the Left want to instill the idea that everything that happens comes from the federal government. When the federal government does not fund local police, people are raped and die. On the other hand, when the government spends stimulus money, the people are forced to see propaganda signs that proclaim the feds are “Putting America to Work.” If the federal government does not provide health care, people die. If PBS is defunded, children’s television will disappear. If the government passes a bill outlawing rain, the nation can throw away umbrellas. Obama will pay your light bill, your heat bill, share the money from “his stash.”
This is the ideology of a dependent and enslaved people.
In the meantime, Joe Biden has been reduced to an upscale version of Antoine Dodson.
