The Islamic State continues to reach new levels of barbarity and depravity in its war to establish a caliphate through the heart of the Middle East.
The group released new video and images of captives being executed by drowning them in a cage, beheading them using explosive cord, and firing an RPG into a group of them locked in a car.
The Daily Mail reports that the executions took place near the ISIS stronghold of Mosul in Northern Iraq. The online newspaper describes what specifically happened to those drowned by the terrorist group: as the water rises, “the victims start to panic, praying and pacing the tiny metal cell.”
“Once completely submerged, the video cuts to the high-tech underwater cameras, which show the men thrashing around until they appear to lose consciousness and fall to the floor,” according to the Daily Mail.
“The cage is then removed from the pool, with the dying men seen foaming at the mouths as they lie piled on top of one another under the blazing Iraqi sun.”
Another part of the 7-minute ISIS video shows captives being decapitated using explosive cable.
Finally, a third portion shows men being burned alive after an RPG is fired into a locked car.
Benjamin Decker, senior intelligence analyst at geopolitical risk consultancy The Levantine Group, stated: “Essentially, a lot of these execution videos, which are far more gruesome than the early executions and are often public spectacles, try to demonstrate that the local population will not have a life outside of Isis. It shows them that if you try to collaborate with the Iraqi regime, they will kill you in a fashion like this.”
While these executions demonstrate the barbarity of the group, Fox News reported Tuesday on another aspect of its depravity. According to the news outlet, ISIS gave away sex slaves as prizes in a Quran contest. The contest was “organized by the Da’wa and Mosques Department in Al-Baraka province in Syria in honor of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and was announced June 19 on ISIS Twitter accounts, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute and the Clarion Project, two independent research institutes that track social media accounts linked to terrorist group.”
“By showcasing its slavery, ISIS is boasting that it practices Islam in its most literal interpretation, doesn’t capitulate to public opinion and rejects modern interpretations,” Ryan Mauro, national security analyst for the New York-based Clarion Project, said. “It is also showing it has a functional Islamic educational system and therefore is a real caliphate.”
“We ask the great lord to make your life easier and to grant you with what he loves and what pleases him,” the contest announcement concludes.
According to Fox News:
Last November, ISIS reportedly unveiled a menu of sorts for women and children for sale with women 40 and 50 years old sold for just $40, girls between 10 and 20 years old auctioned for $129 each, and children under 10 commanding higher prices. A Human Rights Watch report issued in April documented continued organized rapes, sexual assault, and other horrific crimes against Yezidi women and girls kidnapped from their homes and held as captives in Iraq and Syria.
