Megan Hui is no ordinary baby. Sure, she’s only 18 weeks old; but her life is an absolute miracle.
When only six weeks pregnant, her mother, Michelle Hui, 31, began to bleed heavily on her way to work in July 2013. Five separate scans later, conducted by two different doctors, at a Rotunda Hospital in Dublin confirmed that she had just miscarried.
The devastated mother was then given 2 abortion drugs (known as a medical abortion) to prevent infection. She was then told she had blood clots in her womb that would need to be removed surgically.
Ten days later, Michelle was back at the hospital preparing for her final treatment to clear her uterus when doctors picked up a tiny heartbeat.

The astonished medical team told Mrs Hui that her baby had managed to survive both the miscarriage and the abortion pills – and she could continue with the pregnancy.
They said she had been pregnant with twins, and while one baby died, the other had clung on to life.
The blood clots could have created shadows on the scan images, obscuring the surviving foetus from view, doctors said.
The Hui’s beautiful six pound bundle of joy, whom they named Megan, was born on February 25 this year. Michelle and her husband Ross, 33, couldn’t be happier.
“The miscarriage and abortion were absolutely horrific. The ten days between the miscarriage and going back to the hospital were just a blur. To find out I had to go in for another procedure, I was devastated,” she told The Mirror.
“But then I saw this little heartbeat,” she continued. “I thought it couldn’t be right. After all we had been through, I didn’t want to get my hopes up. The doctor went out and came back in with a more senior doctor and he did the scan again and he said, ‘You are not going to believe it – we’ve got a heartbeat.’ It was the best feeling ever.”
“Now Megan is fine,” said the happy mother. “She is just a big healthy pudding of a baby. The doctors said it was a blessing. They have never heard of anything like it. Someone had been looking over us.”
Since returning home, Megan continues to be healthy as she grows stronger every day. Her big sister Mya, four, and brother Noah, two, are proud to have another member added to their family.
“I’ve been written about in medical journals, and the doctor said that in all his 25 years he has never come across or heard of anything like this.”

The Association of Radical Midwives said it had never heard of such a case.
Spokeswoman Katherine Hales, a midwife of 20 years, said: “It certainly is an amazing story.
“I have very, very occasionally heard of rare cases of a miscarriage of one baby, and then seeing another on the scan.
“But I have never heard of this happening after (abortion pill) mifepristone. I can’t think of a medical reason for it to happen – it is just luck. The twins should be the same size. You would presume that the second one was the same size and they would see it on the scan.
“I suppose because they couldn’t detect the second – perhaps there was a disparity in the gestation between the two – but hormonally that really should not happen, and even if it does you are talking hours difference, not days.
“It really is an extraordinary case and I would be interested to see if in fact there is even another case out there like this.”
“She’s our little miracle,” Michelle, of County Kildare, Ireland, added. “We were always a strong family, but it has just made us stronger. I wouldn’t have been able to get through it all if it had not been for my husband and my two children.
“It was an incredibly difficult time, but now we have a precious and healthy little girl.”
