Last December 14th Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed during an Arizona shootout with members of a Mexican drug cartel. But before the facts surrounding this murder could be buried with its victim, David Codrea and Mike Vanderboegh brought the story to the American public. Working with contacts within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), these men revealed what is now known as Project “Gunwalker”…the deliberate facilitation by the ATF of the sale of guns to known straw purchasers for Mexican drug cartels. Two of the rifles literally “walked” across the border by the ATF were found at the scene of agent Terry’s murder and with the cooperation of agency whistle blowers, Iowa senator Charles Grassley is investigating the accusations lodged against the agency. The investigative work they have done into Project Gunwalker and the ATF’s attempts to cover its tracks earn Codrea and Vanderboegh kudos from justice lovers and 2nd amendment supporters everywhere.
On February 26th, Vanderboegh printed an article entitled “America as a Free Fire Zone: A Critical Examination of Gun Culture Rationalizations” on his Sipset Street Irregulars blog. Written by Ernest Partridge, professor of Environmental Ethics at Wisconsin’s Northland College, the article predictably rehashes the same attacks, tripe, and misinformation for which gun-grabbers are famous. For decades, Second Amendment supporters have responded to anti-gun rights declarations of the type made by Professor Partridge with facts, reason, and well-researched statistics.
But Vanderboegh’s reply to the learned professor is truly one for the ages. “I used to argue history, facts and common sense with such as you, but gave it up as a bad job”, he writes of once being asked his opinions on gun control by a citizen disarmament advocate. And when asked by the fellow for a “short answer” summing up his views, Vanderboegh simply answered, “If you try to take our firearms, we will kill you.” “It boils down to that”, he continues. “If you try to take our firearms (liberty, property, insert any other God-given, inalienable right) we will kill you.”
Sound a bit harsh? Threatening? Overly direct? It might serve to remember that the American people are one heart attack away from losing the remainder of those rights not already wrenched from us by the Left. Should Justice Scalia, Thomas, or even Anthony Kennedy die, President Obama would nominate yet another leftist activist to the court. Gone would be our right to keep and bear arms. Language considered “offensive” to the many Democrat-created victim groups in the nation would earn its speaker jail time. Private property rights could become a distant memory. And the non-union construction, transport or sale of everything under the sun would be forbidden. How many Americans will simply allow their liberty to be taken? And how many will fight to preserve it? The day may come when we find out. We know how Mike Vanderboegh stands.
