Spurred by Republicans running for the White House, GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill are moving closer to a vote that would make English the official language of the United States.
Republicans believe a vote on the bipartisan measure would put the Obama administration on the defensive. President Obama voted against the effort when he served in the Senate.
GOP White House hopefuls, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), have clashed on immigration reform, but they have united on officially recognizing the English language.
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), an ardent illegal immigration foe who has introduced the “English Language Unity Act of 2011,” sees a clear policy and political opportunity for his party.
“It’s one of those 84 percent [approval] issues. I don’t know what the [Republican] leaders have up on the board that is more popular than official English,” King said in an interview with The Hill.

This bill will pass the House and Harry Reid will once again declare “dead on arrival”. Democrats will continue to cater to the illegal aliens while Republicans try to bring some order to the insanity we have been experiencing.
It’s sad that America has to legally declare English as our official language when it is already the only official language the people have used. But in today’s society it is absolutely necessary and the sooner, the better!
What’s the first thing new immigrants that arrived from Western Europe did![The one's that made America GREAT!!!] They learned ENGLISH, why? because it was unifying, a common language that brought us all together, one nation! If u did’nt learn English, u got left Behind! ! These immigrants wanted to be Americans, not Spanish Americans, or Zulu Americans or African Americans!! They all wanted to join our country! And guess what? they did’nt go to Western Union every Friday!
Let’s face it the best wave of immigrants to hit our shores were from Western Europe! They came here to build a new America, did not come here to suck off America. Immigrants are Welcome, on one condition! Change to fit in,become part of it, we’re not changing to suit u, no one asked u to come here,don’t try and change us, we don’t want to wear burkas, or eat funny food, or talk strange languages! This is our America! Don’t like the way we live, then go where they’ll change to suit u! Try Europe , they’ve got Political Correctness!! Oh! By the way , don’t let the door hit u in the ass! Long Live America!! [ Obamaless! of course! ]
