In his January 12th article on the 2010 ATF Operation White Gun, Los Angeles Times reporter Richard Serrano did little more than tell readers that 3 virtual nobodies had been arrested in an expensive sting which somehow allowed an unknown number of guns to disappear across the Mexican border. In fact, there are probably more questions raised in the story than answered.
But it is not his skill or work ethic as an investigative reporter which have endeared him to the left. Rather, it is the fact that, true to form, he managed to make the ATF, its Department of Justice bosses, and even disgraced former U.S Attorney Dennis Burke look good in the process.
Serrano has been a “go-to” guy for the “approved” breaking of stories dealing with Eric Holder and the Department of Justice for years. In fact, their relationship goes all the way back to the days of Waco and the Oklahoma City bombing aftermath.
For example, the story broke in July that emails mentioning Fast and Furious and gunwalking had been sent by Phoenix ATF office head Bill Newell to White House National Security staffer Kevin O’Reilly. As O’Reilly met at least weekly with the president, existence of such documents might suggest that White House claims of ignorance about gunwalking were not truthful. Serrano “somehow” obtained a number of these emails and immediately published them in order to show there was in fact no mention of Fast and Furious in the documents. In this way, he sought to prove that the White House had not been informed of the Operation.
Naturally, he didn’t bother to relate how or from whom he had obtained the emails or that those he published represented only a carefully selected, very few of the total number in existence.
Just weeks ago, Serrano “obtained” the July 4th deposition of former ATF Director Ken Melson taken by staffers and representatives of Charles Grassley, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
And the word is that it was committee Democrats who saw to it that Serrano was provided both with Melson’s deposition and the official story which Serrano was entrusted to put out–that “Justice officials…were never told about…Fast and Furious tactics…”
And it is this claim, so obligingly presented by Serrano in the L.A. Times, with which Eric Holder will trot into his upcoming appearance before Darrell Issa’s House committee on February 2nd. The Attorney General will maintain that the Fast and Furious debacle was engineered by ATF agents behaving in a manner quite out of line with accepted procedure and far below the stratospheric level—and therefore notice–of Department of Justice upper echelon.
Of course, B. Todd Jones, Melson’s replacement as ATF director was generously quoted by Serrano as he blamed Melson for a lack of management skills which “…allowed overzealous field agents and supervisors to go beyond approved tactics.”
So, once again in his long career of carrying water for Eric Holder and the DOJ, Richard Serrano has presented the talking points for the Attorney General’s upcoming testimony by clarifying the real reason for that darned Fast and Furious SNAFU: none of the ATF underlings who crafted and carried out the scheme let the mature, caring, and scrupulously honest Obama Regime adults in the Department of Justice hierarchy know what was going on.
More will undoubtedly come of the White Gun affair. But if it is reported in the L.A. Times, let the byline be your guide. If it says Richard Serrano, just pretend the story was written by Eric Holder and you’ll be fine.

Let us hope that The Supreme Court does the right thing and toos ” O B U M E R ” out of office.
The election of 2012, if the Supreme Court does not act properly, will be a very nasty one.
You can’t cover up the truth as the story has changed multiple times and the pasty white commie reporter, serrano needs to outed as a serial liar! I know what I would consider a reasonable punishment for the turd!
Combatvet what concerns me most about these guns are twofold. How many and where are they truly going. obama being the crafty usurperous bastard that he and holder togetherare. This seems that it may be a smokescreen for some form of subversion from the South and this cannot be good in my opinion! do you have any outlook on this at all?
They’ll walk….they’ve had the time and expertise to mold this one so that Obama and Holder will come out ‘lily-white’, so to speak. Follow the money, and it cuts some of the chaff. Grassley and Issa have shown lie after lie, and still nothing will happen. You don’t run an operation of this magnitude, this much money, without the brass on the hill knowing just exactly what, where, why and when…it just doesn’t happen. Hang them all! I wish someone had intercepted ALL the e-mails.,..just as they did with ‘global warming’.
If this was the old west, their new home would be an oak tree and a rope! Makes sense to go back to real justice in America!

Isn’t it about time for an independent prosecutor? Isn’t the independent prosecutor law there for a situation such as this? James Carvel’s not around to demonize the prosecutor like he did for the Clinton crowd and I don’t think it would work quite as well this time around, especially considering the seriousness of this matter compared to Clinton’s lying to a grand jury: and there are hundreds of dead bodies attached to this one. Maybe this would force Newsweek, the N.Y. Times, CNN, NBC et al to do some real reporting even if they have to do it kicking and screaming; just to try to maintain the illusion that they are actually news sources instead of propaganda machines, even though journalistic lost cause like Serrano will continue to persist.
We are a nation adrift, there is no such thing as an independent prosecutor. Think about it for a moment, who calls for an independent prosecutor? The criminals that represent us, that’s who! WE have a one party system pretending to look like a two party system. How about this for oxymorons, try the word honest before attorney, politician, etc. There is no such thing. We live in a crumbling society where the owners are the serfs and the serfs, the owners. Where corruption is honesty and honesty is corruption. There is a new language spoken in America called double speak and all politicians must communicate in strict adherence to this warped form of elocution! I, too am a combat vet. Served in Vietnam. Thank you, your comment’s were so very on point. It’s time to stop talking and wishing. If it come’s to passing out gun’s and ammo, so be it. We need to step up our action’s to do it peacefully. But if Obozo get’s back in the White House, American’s must take stronger action. There should be term limit’s. Then the Nancy Pilousy, Harry Rediculous type’s would not be there for life to F**k things up so bad. We need to remove all Socialist, Communist and Progressives. Strick Constitutionalist and Bill of Right’s advocates.

Out of my 58 years of breathing the air of America’s freedom, have I ever heard such BS coming from my Government, and believe me there has been alot of BS in DC. This cat serreno or whatever his name is, has been lieing for Holder for a long time now, but this time, they will pay for their sins against God and the People of this Great Country, The United States of America, they will pay. There are to many angry Americans that is so pissed off over the BS that has been going on that one way or another, those jokers will pay, they will NOT get away with it. I feel an atmospher in the citizens of America that is ready to explode in an angry bad sort of way, that if this BS don’t stop in the legal way it WILL stop in the opposite of LEGAL, and they are all preparing for it.
