It’s hard to see clearly when you are crying. And you don’t want to operate heavy machinery, drive, or vote on major legislation until you can see clearly.
We mourn the tragic loss of life that occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. What captured our attention most was the fact that most of the victims were young children.
But I have to ask: are my sons less precious or less important because they are adults and no longer cute? One son is a teacher. Would his death be less tragic if he were killed outside of school? If these twenty children and seven adults were killed separately and individually all across the country, would we have less of a crisis?
The fact is that they are. In Chicago alone, where guns are illegal, about twenty-seven people—men, women, and children—are killed every two weeks. Every two weeks.
So, yes, we have a problem. And there are two basic approaches to solving it.
One approach is to try to eliminate or minimize the possible weapons that people use to kill each other. The fact is that people have been killing each other since the Garden of Eden. As technology has improved, so has our ability to make weapons that can kill more efficiently and at a quicker pace.
So people are trying to limit access to the more efficient weapons in order to limit the number of people who can be killed at one time by one person. An improvement? Yes. But at what cost?
It’s a bit like requiring every car to make a complete stop at all intersections and no car being able to drive over thirty miles per hour in an effort to limit automobile fatalities. It can help, but trying to eliminate all the risks and dangers in life will only engender a docile and fearful populace more concerned about not failing rather than achieving success.
So why do people need these more advanced weapons anyway? First we need to ask why we need weapons at all. Self-defense and protection of property. But we have police. But sometimes we need to act before the police can arrive.
But why do we need “assault weapons?” Because we can’t assume that it will only be individuals who may threaten us or that their weaponry will be as primitive as that which lawmakers would like to leave us.
When the Second Amendment was written, our nation had just recently freed itself from a tyrannical government, and it acknowledged in its Declaration of Independence that the people have a right to change their government if it abuses its power. Having an armed populace is one of the checks on a growing government encroaching on the rights and freedoms of its people.
But I mentioned a second approach to solving the problem of people killing people. This approach involves inculcating in people respect and even love for each other.
This approach requires the help and support of both the government at all levels and our public schools.
We used to teach in our schools a code of ethics based on the Bible and the Ten Commandments. We acknowledged that there was a God, that there were rules in life, and by implication we would be held accountable for those rules.
Now we teach that life is a chance event of nature and that human beings are simply more intelligent apes. Essentially life has no meaning but what you make it, but you can’t assume that anyone else will have the same values as you.
The survival of the fittest is the basic law of life. What we used to call “dog eat dog.” It’s no wonder that life has become cheap. We abort a million babies a year. We don’t regard life as sacred any more.
We have been lied to about this idea of separation of church and state, such that we have removed God as much as we can out of public life. So as a nation we feel compelled to live and act as if there were no God at all. All our decisions and actions must be predicated on the axiom that there is no God to inform our plans, direct our lives, or judge our deeds.
We are told that schools cannot teach or even mention anything about God, because that would be the government establishing religion. Yet that is precisely what our public schools did for the first 175 years or so that we existed as a nation and which, of course, we had done all the years prior to becoming a nation.
Our Founders knew that a government of the people could not and would not endure without a moral and religious people. Their objection was with a state Church as existed throughout much of Europe. All of the state churches were Christian. They just didn’t want the Federal government running any of them. But prayer and Bible use in schools were common and expected.
We believed in truth, and a truth that we all agreed upon.
In a nation that does not acknowledge God, we should not be surprised when people do things that exhibit no sense of conscience or morals. When we learn to value and love each other out of respect for God, then violence and crime altogether will diminish.

Right on!
I’m adding this to my Paper about the Safety of our Children.
You have said succinctly what I spent pages on. The difference being that I put references to facts and data in my paper.
But we definitely agree.
If you would like a copy of my paper, please ask or (?) post your email address
I still have not heard ONE person tell the public how gun control will stop mass murder or bring crime rate down. Never has..never will!!!
A weapon, arm, or armament is a tool or instrument used in order to inflict damage, harm or death to enemies or other living beings, structures, or systems. Weapons are used to increase the efficacy and efficiency of activities such as hunting, crime, law enforcement, and warfare. In a broader context, weapons may be construed to include anything used to gain a strategic, material or mental advantage over an adversary. Any instrument/object when used to cause bodily harm is an assault weapon. Water, sound, electricity can be also used as a weapon to assault.
There were weapons, murders and killings long before there were guns.
A person could take 3 guns that hold only six rounds each and take out up to 18 people. How does banning assault weapons stop people from killing? It DOESN’T!!! All it does is cause a person to come up with another plan.
Do people really think that banning what will be determined as assault weapons would have stopped the killers from accomplishing their task or obtaining a gun on the black market? Banning assault weapons will make the price go up on the black market. There are people who cannot buy a gun legally yet they still have then m or know how to purchase one.
Realize how many of these mass killing are done by the mentally unstable, a person on drugs and end up killing themselves after their killing spree. So we blame the gun not the medication. Why not ban drugs that alter a person thought patterns.
They have our kids on drugs, because there are people who cannot handle parenting and the trials and tribulations that go with parenting
I think every US citizen should have a gun and law enforcement classes to teach people how to use them.
If the every teacher at the school had a gun and knew how to use them there would have been less people killed, because someone could have taken him out. If a person got the idea to go to a school and shoot people and he knew every teacher had a gun and was trained on how to use them I am sure he would pick another place where no one had a gun.
Some say have an armed guard at every school. The guard cannot be at more than one place at a time. If the guard is at the front of the school and the shooter enters from the back or side door the gaurd cannot get to where the shooter is in time to stop him. If you rely on law enforcement it takes them a certain amount of time to get to the crime scene.
People ask the question: Why does a person need these type of guns. They have them because they want them and have the right to own them. Just because they own them does not mean they are going to go out and kill people
If assault weapons were were banned it would not have stopped him. Maybe slowed him down. A person does not need an assault weapon to commit mass murder!

To say banning assault weapons will stop mass murders or stopping a person from killing is ridiculous!!!
So the guy walks in with a ninja’s sword and starts hacking kids heads off or learns how to make a chlorine gas bomb and tosses it in the window. The nutjob will find a way! A guy in china slashed and killed 28 kids in a school with a knife. So yes,if someone is determined to do evil they will do evil with whatever method they can get their hands on. That is the reality of it.
Jim Jones killed more people with Kool-aid than all the all the so called “assault weapons” attacks combined!
BTW, did you know the ACLU prevented his mother from institutionalizing him.
A Connecticut mental health bill was recently defeated, because the ACLU said the bill would infringe on patients’ privacy rights.
That bill was defeated by the same vermin on the left who are trying to take your guns away.
There have been over 12 shootings within the past 4 years. Why all of a sudden is the number of shootings on the increase and the time frame getting closer together? Could it be these shooters were hypnotized, put into a trance or programmed to do what they did and to kill themselves after they accomplished the act. What if one of the shooters were captured alive; Be interesting to see what would be uncovered.
I still want some one to explain how gun control will stop mass murder or bring crime rate down. YOU CAN’T!!!!
my opinion, one way to curb violence is to quit pandering to convicts. Convicts these days usually end up committing repeat crimes so they can get back into the prison system. America caters to the criminals giving them 3 hots and a cot, libraries with internet and video games, movie theaters, gyms and exercise rooms. They get a roof over their head and food in their gut and all sorts of entertainment and they don’t have to break a sweat or ever worry about rent or mortgage payment.
Bleeding heart liberals always claiming to give convicts second chance and let them out. Most of them end up committing a crime such as murder or homicide within less than 12 months upon being released.
My opinion, banning guns is not going to decrease crime or murder rates. However, taking the gyms ,internet and video games away from convicts and put them to work to earn their free meals and roof over their head and in the process work off their debt to society rather than laying around a cell.
The stiffer crimes such as murder, homicide. They should be executed in a similar fashion as they executed their victim. If they beat someone to death with a bat, then they will be executed in the same fashion with a bat. If they used a knife and stabbed their victim 15 times, then they will die by the same fate of 15 stabbings but the first 14 stabbings will be none lethal keeping the criminal in a conscious state of mind to feel the pain they inflicted on their victim before delivering the final lethal stabbing.
In short, I believe in an eye for eye. Enough of this bleeding heart feel sorry for the criminal when they kill innocent and usually weaker people as they tend to target. I’ll guarantee if these criminal minded twits will think twice about committing alot of these crimes if they know their fate will be death by the same means.
Some people are born and raised with evil in their heart and no amount of therapy or counseling or time in prison will ever change that evil. It flows their veins and their brain our wired wrong. They are monsters that need to be destroyed because they cannot function in society without posing a threat to society.
When folks are in and accident that renders them brain dead, what happens? The plug is pulled because they will never function in society again and thus will only be a financial burden to society and family, same as these murderers in prison. They are a financial burden to society and the plug should be pulled on them.
The law should ban these VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES and NOT GUNS & ASSAULT RIFLES or we can expect more of these types of MASS SHOOTINGS.
