It’s been less than 24 hours since the polls closed and already the first shots in an emerging civil war within the conservative movement are being fired. Right-leaning pundits have been taking turns beating up on Mitt Romney and blaming him for the loss last night. Donald Trump just tweeted, “Congrats to @KarlRove on blowing $400 million this cycle. Every race @CrossroadsGPS ran ads in, the Republicans lost. What a waste of money.” And GOP leaders are already taking to the barricades on either side of the divide, which basically comes down to this question: Were Romney and the GOP too conservative or not conservative enough?
Steve Schmidt, a top Republican strategist who ran John McCain’s 2008 campaign, invoked the term on MSNBC this morning. “When I talk about a civil war in the Republican Party, what I mean is, it’s time for Republican elected leaders to stand up and to repudiate this nonsense [of the extreme right wing], and to repudiate it directly,” he said.
But on the other side of the fight, Herman Cain, the former presidential candidate who still has a robust following via his popular talk radio program and speaking tours, today suggested the most clear step to open civil war: secession. Appearing on Bryan Fischer’s radio program this afternoon, Cain called for a large faction of Republican Party leaders to desert the party and form a third, more conservative party.
“I never thought that I would say this, and this is the first time publicly that I’ve said it: We need a third party to save this country. Not Ron Paul and the Ron Paulites. No. We need a legitimate third party to challenge the current system that we have, because I don’t believe that the Republican Party … has the ability to rebrand itself,” Cain said.

patti’s notes: should have been a third party all along, cain, you got my vote. pl,orl, fla
I just wonder if Mr. Cain could have won this election? I just almost think he could have beat obama..
The GOP needed a hard nosed, mean true patriot to fight a obama campfire with a flame thrower. What they got was a true patriot that was a really nice guy but no fighter. He tried to put out obamas bon fire with a cup pf water. Like the saying goes. Nice guys finish last. He was and did.
Donald Trump offered five million dollars to Obama if Obama released his college and passport records. Obama ignored Trump and the mainstream media ridiculed him. Wouldn’t it be sweet revenge if Donald Trump used the five million dollars to unite all the Tea Party regional groups and clubs into a National Tea Party?
Let us ask him.
Benjamin Franklin said: “We must all hang together, or we shall most assuredly hang separately”.
I’d like to see him put his money where his mouth is. He can slam everyone he wants, why doesn’t start doing something. I’m tired of the talk. You know I am real unhappy about the outcome of the election, I cried myself to sleep. BUT, we are America and it is our responsibility to pull together and progress. If we are divided we will achieve nothing but as a United People of America (Republican, Democratic, Independent or Moderate) we can insure that our government work together (all of them) for the best of it’s people. It’s time to stop slinging insults back and forth and make sure we join together and tell our elected officials to unite for the people who employ them, it is up to us to insure they do what they promise to do. I love America!
If you’re interested in a third more conservative power, check America’s Party who nominated Alan Keyes for president in 2008. Go to http://www.americaspartynews.com and check out the party platform, if you agree with the platform you can affiliate. I am an affiliate and have been since 2009 and I think they are the one party that could be instrumental in bringing our country back to our founding principles.
Good point, SonofAsaph. In 2008 I voted for Alan Keyes. He was the only candidate that stood for what is right and decent and for the God-given freedoms/liberties protected under our U.S. Constitution. This year I voted for Romney because Obozo is soooo bad I figured anyone is better than obozo. But, I agree with Cain I think we need a party that will stand up for what is right and fight for all or our God-given freedoms/liberties without caving or without compromise. With obozo in there again we are gonna lose every God-given right and freedom we’ve ever had. We, the People, should demand the impeachment or resignation of obozo and his henchmen/women. It’s gonna take We, the People, to bring this country back to it’s Judeo-Christian foundation.
The Right should have thrown the Left into a dither and ran a Cain\Wells ticket. Voters would have appeared to be roaches when the light came on……………!
I’m pretty sure that the only way for a third party to be capable of getting anyone elected is for them to be democrat-light in their platform, or maybe democrat-heavy. Currently, there are more elected Republican Latinos than democrat Latinos, so there must be another cause for them to gravitate toward the party of foodstamps and the safety net that has morphed into a hammock. We are Republicans because we see the value in each and every individual. We don’t see government’s role as being the nanny so that no one has to get their hands dirty or work hard to provide for their family. Republicans don’t promote dependency on taxpayer funded assistance. If we did, then there’d be little difference between us and the democrats. It looks like it has gotten to the point though where a majority of the Latinos that voted for Obama are voting for a living. America is bankrupted (each citizen’s prorata share of the national debt is $51,000) and Americans will soon have to pay back what has been borrowed. Again, each member of your family’s prorata share of the debt is $51,000. You may not care, but my problem is that the same prorata share belongs to every member of my family too. It’s going to cause chaos in this country very soon. Innocent people will get hurt.
Fact is, “reaching out” in the eyes of the democrats means being Santa Clause to voting blocks in order to buy their votes. Republicans are guilty of the same thing, but we haven’t redistributed enough wealth to gain a lead in the Santa business. I hope we never do because giving people a fish isn’t as beneficial as teaching people to how to fish. Furthermore, I can’t really determine how Latinos have benefitted from four years of Obama’s leadership. Maybe they come to this country and they know the word “democracy”, so they just assume that the democrat party is democratic and the Republican party is less so. For sure the democrat party has been effective in demonizing the Republican party and it’s all been a pack of lies.
