Is it payback or just shame? General Carter Ham, the combatant commander of Africa Command and a key figure in the Benghazi scandal, is retiring from the Army years short of the mandatory retirement age, according to the Washington Times.
Ham’s name came up in relation to Benghazi last week when Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta was trying to explain why no military backup was sent into the battle at the U.S. mission despite repeated requests from those under siege:
“(The) basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on; without having some real-time information about what’s taking place. And as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. Ham, Gen. Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation.”
This despite having a live video feed of the events in Benghazi in the situation room, where information from other sources has placed President Obama as well.
With Panetta trying to implicate him, Ham must have had a target on his back since the September 11 attacks. Panetta had announced on October 18 that Ham would be replaced as head of AFRICOM. On Monday, an Army spokesperson insisted the decision to retire was made by Ham and was not fallout from Benghazi.

Panetta’s statement as to why support was not provided, is a “Coward’s Excuse”, or one of a “Traitor”, either way, he is complicite in the Murder of four brave and honorable Americans. All those involved need to be prosecuted, and this General, has disgraced the Uniform he wears, and the same uniform, I once proudly wore, and the nation he was suppose to represent. He deserves to be Courts Marshalled, and stripped of all rank and privledges, and either spend the rest of his life in Fort Leavenworth Military Prison, or put in front of a Firing Squad. I would prefer he be put in Leavenworth, and spend the rest of his miserable, cowardly life, remembering the four brave and honorable Americans he helped to murder.
Panetta’s excuse for not responding is ridiculous claiming “you don’t go in until you know what’s going on”. They were informed days ahead of the attack and they were watching it on live feed. They knew exactly what was going on. Americans were being attacked with military fire power and American consulate’s were being destroyed and burned period. It is irrelevant who was the attacker or what caused the attack when Americans lives are being threatened. Those people should be rescued and taken out of harms way then deal with collecting data on who is responsible for the attack.
Even generals get their orders from The Commander in Chief. They are trying to make him look guilty, but he could have been demoted and kicked out if the CIC didn’t give the word.
Gran Ann, if he had done what he knew was right, disobeyed the order to stand down and saved the Ambassadors life, as well as the life of Ty Woods and the others, he would have been promoted, and probably gotten a Ticker Tape Parade, down 5th Ave. in the same manner as Gen Douglas McArthur. Also, more then likely, immediate Impeachment proceedings would have been instituted against the “Traitor in Chief”. Obeyance of an Illegal Order, gets the same consequences as disobeying a Legal order, Courts Marshall and discharge, followed by Imprionment and/or execution. Remember Private Eddie Slovak, he was executed during WWII as an example to any who would choose not to do their duty.
Yeh, if he had gone against orders and been SUCCESSFUL in the rescue…’berry’ would have claimed the ‘honors’ just like he did with the Seal’s getting OBL. It wouldn’t have lookd good for ‘berry’ to court martial the ‘hero’ who saved their lives. ‘berry’ would have gotten a landslide victory in this election also…until the truth started leaking out.
I hope that this General will start speaking out…now that he is ‘retired’. This administration can’t ‘silence’ everyone, esp if too many are speaking the TRUTH!!!
Was it the General, or was he under direct orders from the Commander in Chief, to take no action? We all know that Obama is a coward who only thinks of himself, so why is it so difficult to consider that the General was just another sacrificial lamb for a failing president? Hillary was the first to take responsibility, now this General? Something just isn’t right with the stories. How about some real FACTS from Obama!
Panetta and General Dempsey went before Congress and lied about the Benghazi attack. They are criminals. General Ham on the other hand is a patriot. Thank you General for your service. If other MACOM commanders honored their oath, they would tender their resignation ASAP. Look at the facts. Muslim Brotherhood penetration of our Government facilitated by POTUS. Unconstitutional war levied against Libya. Selling arms to al-Qaeda, an enemy of the Republic for which we are at war with. What more do the senior officers need before they stand up and protect the Republic! For the sake of the Republic, lets pray Obama is voted out of office. If he is not, then ……..
How does it Honor the uniform and the country they serve and are suppose to love, it they quit when the going gets rough. That is not what a True Patriot does. A True Patriot stands up and faces the adversity, as did Ty Woods and the other 3 Americans who died in Benghazi. Quitting gives power to the enemy, it does nothing for the quitter. True American heroes would confront the fraud in the White House with the the truth and the facts, not turn and run from it.
NatSovParty, In the military this is what is called a; Sacrificial Lamb. General Ham has no choice or say at this point..The President is his, supreme commander. We now know that the, instand Msg. went directly to the White House. It was also acknowledged at the White House. While General Ham would have gotten a copy, the: Stand Down Order had to be a White House Decision.
They will wait a few days to see if this will stick on the wall. If it do not, then they will toss someone else.
Yes, I know what a sacrificial lamb is. He does have a choice, he can stay and defend his position or he can knuckle under and surrender. I served in the Military, I know protocol, and I also know that you are not required to OBEY an ILLEGAL order. But that determination can not be made until after the act has been committed. Would Gen. Ham have surrendered his command if Obama ordered him to do so, while engaged in a military action, rather then make every effort possible, to be sucessful, if so, then he doesn’t deserve to be a General in the first place, and if I were in his command, I would prefer to see someone with that little backboe gone.

I think Obama, Panetta and H.Clinton should be the ones to step down. They are the ones who lied to us and still are lying. This is a despicable, sad, pathetic time in the history of this country. This scandal shows all the cowardice, weakness and stupidity of this administration. No wonder our embassy in Libya was attacked on 9/11/12 because they interpreted our weakness and stupidity as a red light to attack us. These terrorists are bullies. Only STRENGTH deters them. They will never step down for unethical reasons. This modern day Government has been infiltrated with not only ties to Muslim terrorists but all of Obama’s self appointed czars all have ties to communism and the Communist Party of the USA.
Panetta’s excuse for not going in to rescue these American’s is like fire fighters not going into a burning building to save life until they know what started the fire and what the temperature of the flames are. The facts that Obama and all others were informed days before of the threat should have placed them on alert and Panetta should have already known what was going on prior to the attack because the entire world now knows that they were informed of the threat and potential attack just days before it happened. There is no getting around those facts.
I’m guessing that Gen Ham has been given an ultimatum by Panetta and/or Hilary to resign with benefits and priveleges and if he speaks out he will be stripped of benefits or buy out or be set up as a patsy and take the fall for Obama and risk being court marshalled and imprisoned to take one on the chin for his Commander-in-chief. Which would you do? Take the money and run, or take one on the chin for a slimeball like Obama and end up in prison?
It would be interesting to watch Gen. Ham’s financial records or see if he suddenly becomes wealthy or suddenly resigns and ends up driving expensive cars and a massive upgrade in his housing by which his lifestyle and income as a General would be significantly changed and unexplained as to how he afforded such things on a Generals income. That would tell a story as to whether his silence was bought or not.

If you took the time to read all the comments before running your mouth, you would find that I stated that up until this point it is still unknown the exact reasons for Gen Ham resignation. At the time of writing my comments, your version of Gen Ham being relieved of duty by 2nd in command was not known nor confirmed by a creditable source. Is that so difficult for you to understand? Based on what you wrote, your a day late and a dollar short this was yesterdays news report, try to keep up.

As vindictive as Obama is, I don’t blame him. Even now how could he serve under such a scheming comandner in chief. Gen. Ham was going to do the right thing in going to the aid of Americans no matter the cost.
I understand your point. Its a question of morals and principle. However at this point we don’t know exactly what is causing Gen. Ham to retire early, Is it because he is going to be the fall guy? or is it because he cannot in good conscience serve his Country with honor while under the Command of corruption and dishonest Administration that forces him to disgrace his Country in order to cover up his Commanders lies and criminal actions. These are questions I am anxious to learn. There are still good honest people in this Country that will not lower their principles in the sake of protecting a imbecile like Obama and his Admin. Which brings up another question. Reports indicate that Amb. Stevens was involved with Obama’s dealings with arming Al Qu eda and arms deals associated with Syria. Could that have something to do with the reason Obama told them to “stand down”? Let Al Qu eda take out Amb. Stevens so Obama don’t have to worry about Amb. Stevens talking later? Has that question crossed anyone else?

Nobama2012, regardless of the rason he is leaving, Gen Ham has deserted the thousands of Troops who serve in his command. How can they now trust that their next commander, won’t be someone Obama has appointed simply to purge their ranks of supporters of Gen. Ham. There can be nothing good coming from this for anybody involved. Do the troops under his command now go blindly into the future depending solely on the Commands of someone who is not looking out for their best interest or safety, but simply for political gain?
The word “immediately” is key here and Gen. Ham will now retire. By doing this immediately, he will not risk his pension and as soon as his papers are accepted he can then tell the truth of what went down with this Benghazi thing. Being relieved of command early is what makes this a unique situation and casts a very dark cloud on The President, Sec. of State, General Dempsey and Sec. of Defense. Gen. Ham chose to end his career to let America know the actual truth, if he survives and lives and he will talk within the next day or two.
Everyone needs to hear what a Lt. Col. had to say when he called in on the, Rush Limbaugh Live Talk Show: This gentleman worked at the African Command Center that was the assigned res ponder .
“An attack on any embassy is an attack on America. A Top Secret Instant digital Msg. would have instandly gone to the White House. Simultaneously the same msg. would have gone the assigned first res-ponders. A person is on duty in the White House–24 7 to receive this type of Msg. and deliver it directly to the President. Meanwhile the first res-ponders have already gone into action. There is C 130 on standby and should hit the air in 5 mins. The only way this can be aborted– is an order from the White House. Either the President or someone that is authorized to speak and act on his behalf can order a–Stand Down” What this means is the decision was not optional for General Ham. He would have went had he not been told to stand down. An attack on our soil along the the taking of our Embassy Official would have been the highest priority the Military has. This president did not just not act! He acted to halt any action!
Hopefully this man is stepping down so he can tell the truth as all military personnel taqke aqn oath to dfefend and support the constitution and not get involved in political matters. It would be a crime for him to talk about his commander in chief or any raqnking officials, thereby putting his years of service in jeopardy. Lets just hope and pray this is the case. .Gen. Carter Ham is another casulty of the Obama blame game. Ham was going to move on the attackers without orders because Obama kept telling him to stand down. As Ty Wood’s father said, better to die standing on your feet then on your knees begging. Had it been me, I would have taken out my service pistol and shot the 2nd in Command, and then ordered a full out assault on the Embassy, and its violators. Then and only then, would I have stood down. Now, Obama has the opportunity to avoid the truth coming out, until after the election, and if he is re-elected, Gen Ham will be just as responsible for that abomination, as he is for failing to rescue his fellow Americans. Hard decisions have to be made in an instant, failing to make those decisions, does no one any good, and only puts more lives at risk. Now Obama has a Commander he knows he can control and intimidate, who does that serve besides Obama. As I said, I would have shot the 2nd in Command, done what needed to be done, then presented the facts to the American people. not to an Illegal President. This is what happened in Nazi Germany, everybody was afraid to stand up to Hitler, for fear of death, but the all died anyway.
A commander that allows any of troops to die without support when it is available (in other words, he refuses to commit backup) should face a court martial. Maybe this ‘retirement’ was offered to avoid such a scandal.
Obuminable loves all the attention Gen. Ham is getting. He knows all tthis will die down in a few days or weeks if he can get people talking about some scapegoat. We need to keep focused on the rreal murderer – Obuminable.

Check out the link above, according to the article, General Ham received the same message for assistance as did Panetta and Obama and numerous other agencies, General Ham did what any Military Officer would do, he assembled an armed response team. Obama’s Administration ordered him to stand down and when he refused to do so, his Second In-Command assumed full responsibility and took away General Ham’s authority.
This my friends is the problem allowing politicians to assume responsibility for the military. The President without Military experience should never be allowed to become Commander in Chief, nor should a civilian, like Panetta become Secretary of Defense, that’s like putting a passenger with no flying experience in control of a 747, it makes absolutely no sense, none whatsoever.
Civilian’s can not think the way trained experienced Military personal think and giving a civilian authority over trained Military is insane, almost as insane as allowing someone without a verifiable past to become president.
Pelosi and Reid should be charged with treason, for helping an unknown become president, by not having vetted him properly, an unknown that methodically has gone around dissembling our country.
