The Oil And Gas Industry Is Helping Grow The US Economy

oil production 45 The Oil And Gas Industry Is Helping Grow The US Economy

Lately, President Obama has been bragging about the drop in America’s dependence on foreign oil—now less than fifty percent. Earlier this week, he introduced a new chart to show how oil imports have declined under his leadership. The chart does not show the drop in America’s oil consumption, due to the bad economy. Nor does it give any indication of the trend for the future based on his policies—which will likely lead to increased use of foreign oil.

President Obama’s energy policy is largely set by his environmental base that favors “alternatives” and eschews fossil fuels—especially drilling for oil. His policy mirrors that of California where the resistance to tapping the resources under the residents’ feet has resulted in increased imported oil from the Middle East. Once the largest oil producer in the world, California is now importing nearly 50% of its oil—with about 21% coming through the Strait of Hormuz. California’s gas prices are routinely the highest in the country. If Iran closes the Strait, as they’ve been threatening, California will be in dire straits.

While less dependent on Middle Eastern oil than California, the United States is like California, in that we have vast resources that are locked up due to regulation, blocked access, and delayed permitting. President Obama touts the reduction of imported oil, but his bragging rights may be short-lived, if he continues on the same anti-drilling track California has been on.

Gasoline prices are driven largely by the headlines. They are full of talk about Middle East unrest and devoid of American drilling announcements. Hence, fear over future supplies keeps bumping the price up and up.

Add to that the President’s planned punishment of the companies that do produce oil in America.

The high gas prices are pushing the President to deflect blame. The oil companies are his favorite target. He points to their profits and wants to single them out for tax increases—which will only add to gas prices.

If you only hear part of the picture, the numbers do sound like the oil companies are stealing. But, perspective is needed. Take ExxonMobil. As one of the biggest publically traded oil companies in the world, it is an easy target. While the company’s oil reserves only account for 1% of the world’s total, it is an American company, whose $9.6 billion in earnings sound astronomical—until they are put into perspective. And, that perspective includes looking at what would happen to the struggling American economy, if ExxonMobil succumbs to the pressure and, like a whipped puppy, it crawls away to a more welcoming country.

ExxonMobil’s overall contribution to the economy through taxes, salaries, investment returns and business expenditures is more than seven times its earnings: $72 billion that governments can use to fund vital services, companies can use to hire workers, and investors can use to save for, or fund retirement.

According to the data, ExxonMobil’s economic contribution breaks down this way:

  • $29 billion to investors in the form of dividends and share buybacks. Investors of oil and gas companies include teachers, government workers and other public-pension holders, as well as the millions of Americans who invest in IRAs or mutual funds.
  • $19 billion in goods and services related to running U.S. production, manufacturing and office facilities, including payroll to more than 30,000 U.S. employees.
  • $12 billion in capital spending, which goes to contractors, construction companies, raw materials and other spending on goods and services related to its U.S. oil, natural gas and chemicals activities.
  • $12 billion to local, state and federal governments in the form of taxes and duties.

And these numbers are from just one company. While it is the largest American oil company, ExxonMobil only accounts for about 5 percent of US oil and gas production. Other major contributors include Chevron and ConocoPhillips.

Imagine what the numbers could look like if American resources were opened up.

Looking at the complete picture, it is clear that the oil and gas industry is a major contributor to the US economy. Making “decreasing our dependency on oil” the goal of the Administration’s energy policy is bad for the economy.

Palin: McCain Campaign Managers Wouldn’t Let Us Investigate Obama’s Past

One of the greatest tragedies in American history is that not only did the media fail to investigate Obama in 2008, but the McCain campaign was complicit in the cover-up of Obama’s past. My great worry about Romney is that he will hold the same attitude as McCain and fail to tell the full truth about Obama. We owe America the full truth about this liar Obama.

Is Michelle Obama A Race Agitating Occupier?

448px Michelle Obama Is Michelle Obama a Race Agitating Occupier?

A treasure trove of information is coming out regarding Barack Obama’s time in college.  Over at the Breitbart sites, we are learning how Obama inserted himself into a fight to implement hiring on the basis of race at Harvard Law School.  The Obama tapes also seem to show the other Obama – Michelle – occupying the Harvard Law School dean’s office.  The occupiers were agitating for the race-based hiring of Harvard law professors.

The racialist fight at Harvard Law from 1988 to 1991 swirls around Professor Derrick Bell.  As detailed over at Big Government, Professor Bell was a role model to law student Barack Obama.  But he also openly advocated for a variety of racialist views wholly outside the American mainstream.  Some of them are outright crazy.  He deliberately used his position as a professor to teach racially charged theories of structural oppression by whites.  Obama, nevertheless, now famously urged us “to open up our hearts and minds to the words of Professor Derrick Bell.”

Joel Pollack, editor-in-chief at Breitbart.com, said on Hannity tonight that WGBH in Boston didn’t even reply to Breitbart.com’s request to review the tapes buried in the WGBH archives.  So instead, I went for the Bigs to Boston and reviewed them last month.  More will be coming out about the racially charged fight that Obama participated in at Harvard.  Stay tuned.

Congress Curtails Our First Amendment Liberties

A bill has just passed the House and the Senate that criminalizes protests anywhere near the presence of a designated government official. On Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted nearly unanimously (388-3) in favor of H.R. 347, the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011.

As part of this legislation, Congress expressly forbids trespass onto the grounds of the White House. Many likely believe that such a law already existed and they are right. The controversial aspect of this bill’s restatement of that statute is that it expands the scope of the federal government’s authority to bring charges against those deemed trespassers at any location placed provisionally under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service.
The present state of the law prosecutes White House trespassers under a local Washington, D.C. ordinance. Prior to this latest federal action, violation of this ordinance was a misdemeanor.

Bill Maher: Obama’s Million Dollar Man

Bill Maher is a sleazy man, and it is no surprise he loves Obama. Obama is a sleazy president. Together they are united in bringing America into the gutter.

The Real “Game Change” Of 2008… Drudge Goes In The Tank For Obama

obama speech 7 SC 300x206 The Real “Game Change” of 2008… Drudge Goes In the Tank for Obama

It is totally understandable that hard core conservatives would like nothing more than for Andrew Breitbart’s shocking death to have some sort of larger meaning. The fulfillment of his promise that college tapes of Barack Obama will insure that he will finally be “vetted” during the 2012 election would certainly achieve that desire.

However, I have been warning conservatives not to get their hopes up. There was never any chance whatsoever that this fantasy would come to fruition. There is also a fascinating story behind Breitbart’s post-death “Obama vetting series,” which, incredibly, has never been told. The real reason Breitbart was so focused on “vetting” Obama in 2012 is that he was prevented from doing so in 2008 by the internet’s undisputed king, Matt Drudge (and yes, I can/will prove it).

The videos Breitbart promised are now being released, but as someone who not long ago knew Andrew and his playbook as well as any of his many friends and associates, I am quite confident that they will have zero impact on the election and may even help Obama.

First of all, since he has already been president for four years, there is nothing that Obama could possibly have said in college that the mainstream media will deem remotely relevant, no matter how “explosive” the tapes may be. We all know that the media is absurdly protective of him to begin with and comments from college years can be far too easily dismissed as the “experimentations of youth.”

Anything which exposes Obama as a legitimate socialist/radical (frankly, I think we already have enough information to conclude that), may have helped in 2008 when the American public didn’t know him, but it will have zero effect in 2012 when he has been president for four years and is perceived mostly a having governed as a moderate liberal.

Sarah Palin On Obama Accepting Bill Maher’s Dirty Money

Sarah last night stepped into the controversy surrounding Rush Limbaugh and Bill Maher for using harsh language to describe women. She handled it with grace, honesty, and refreshing clarity. Reminding us again why we like Sarah Palin so much.

Limbaugh Apologizes While Liberals Insult With Impunity

On Saturday, talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh apologized
for calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a “prostitute” and a
“slut.” In testimony before Congress, she demanded free birth control
prescriptions, noting that without insurance coverage it could cost a
woman $3,000 over three years of law school. Fluke claimed that she
was “embarrassed” at the pharmacy counter when she discovered for “the
first time” that such contraceptives were not included in the
Georgetown health insurance plan.

It is hard to believe that a professional activist like Fluke did not
know about Georgetown’s insurance plan. She has a long history working
in liberal organizations and is the former President of Law Students
for Reproductive Justice and the former Vice President of the Women’s
Legal Alliance. Her liberal activism is why the 30-year old was
invited by pro-choice Democrats to testify on Capital Hill.
Politically speaking, it is clear that Ms. Fluke is no virgin to the
process.

In making his point that the university should not have to comprise
its religious principles and be mandated by the federal government to
provide contraceptive medication, Limbaugh went overboard in attacking
Ms. Fluke. He admitted that his comments were “inappropriate” and
“uncalled for” and that the personal attacks “distracted from the
point I was actually trying to make.” Sadly, ten of Limbaugh’s major
advertisers have dropped their sponsorship of his show, responding to
threats from liberal special interest groups like Media Matters. These
advertisers were pressured by the forces of political correctness, the
same ones who forced Glenn Beck from the Fox News airwaves last year.

Limbaugh was courageous enough to apologize, unlike his liberal
counterparts. Bill Maher has called Condoleezza Rice, Sarah Palin and
Michele Bachmann much worse without any apologies. His network, HBO,
stands behind his vile commentary no matter how insulting he is to
conservative women. Talk show host Laura Ingraham was called a “slut”
by MSNBC host Ed Schultz and Barbara Walters of “The View” laughed
about the insult. Schultz was suspended, but retained his position and
no sponsors left his program.

While he called Fluke and unnecessarily inserted himself into the
controversy, President Obama never called Ingraham or any of the
conservative women attacked on a regular basis. President Obama is
obviously only concerned about protecting the reputation of liberal
women.

There is a total double standard in our media environment today. The
politically correct (PC) police are working non-stop to limit the free
speech rights of conservatives while protecting the rights of liberals
to insult any conservative. Groups like Media Matters spend all of
their time taping conservative talk shows in the hopes they can
highlight a mistake and force a host from the air. They want to make
sure the conservative viewpoint is not heard.

In contrast, I believe that all opinions are valid and need to be
heard on the airwaves. On my radio show (Ringside, 7-11 a.m. CST, WGSO
990 AM, www.wgso.com) I allow a diversity of calls on the air. Unlike
some talk show hosts, I do not prevent controversial views from being
heard. I believe in a free speech forum, where the First Amendment is
celebrated by all types of callers.

Sadly, this philosophy is not shared by most liberals. The PC police
are working overtime to limit the free speech rights of conservatives.
Their victories against Limbaugh and Beck are only the first step.
Ultimately, they want to pass the Fairness Doctrine and literally
shutdown talk radio.

Right now, Fox News, the Internet and talk radio are the only
counterbalances to the overwhelming liberal dominance in the
mainstream press. Liberals control the vast majority of the major
broadcast networks, the daily newspapers, magazines, cable news
organizations and of course Hollywood and the entertainment industry.

Conservatives only have a few outlets and they are under ferocious
attack from liberal activists.

It is time that conservatives fought back and used the same tactics as
the left. Conservatives should organize campaigns to support sponsors
of conservative shows and boycott liberal networks like HBO that
feature filth merchants like Bill Maher. It is also time to boycott
sponsors that support hosts like Ed Schultz and other liberal
apologists on MSNBC.

It is time to fight fire with fire. Otherwise, the airwaves will be
singing the same liberal tune and America will become a modern day
version of the Soviet Union where all of the media supports the
administration and no countervailing opinions are allowed.

Free speech will be a major factor in determining whether our country
maintains our constitutional republic or moves one step closer to
communism.

Game On: This Song Will Lift Your Spirits

Sometimes when you see the condition of the USA, it is easy to get depressed. I have been feeling down about the future of the land I love, but this morning seeing these young people lifted my sprits and restored my faith in America. Do you agree? Whether you support Rick Santorum or another candidate, young people like these singers have to put a smile on your face. This is my pick for best campaign song.
