FBI Considered Sting Against Then-Speaker Gingrich

The FBI considered running a sting operation against Newt Gingrich when he was House speaker in 1997. The operation was sparked by allegations by an arms dealer about a $10 million bribe to lift the Iraqi arms embargo, The Washington Post reported.

The operation was called off when the FBI decided there was no evidence that Gingrich knew about recorded conversations the arms dealer was having with a man who said he was acting on behalf of Marianne Gingrich, then the speaker’s wife, the Post reported.

Details of the case became public this week when Joseph Trento posted a 6,400-word story on the website DC Bureau, along with FBI documents about the case.

“There are so many falsehoods,” Marianne Gingrich told the Post. “The FBI, they should have been protecting me, not going after me. This is scary stuff.”

Victoria Toensing, Marianne Gingrich’s lawyer, added: “There was no basis whatsoever for an investigation. These were people puffing, which means they were making up access to a high-level government person.”

  1. And then they found out the allegations were bogus!

  2. One thing for sure, there is no reason to run a sting on the Mysery Man, he won't even produce the proof to qualify him for his present position or release his credentials from legal restraint……he will soon.

How would it be possible to support Gingrich knowing this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRdqGKA782A&fe
You see, if you and I are truly serious about defeating President Obama in 2012 and turning our country around, nominating Newt Gingrich is the absolute LAST thing the Republican Party should do.
Newt Gingrich's record as the consummate Washington, D.C. insider is crystal clear.
For his support of the individual mandate central to "ObamaCare" and other Big Government schemes, Newt raked in nearly $40 million from health care giants.
For his efforts to stop conservative legislators from working to end government involvement in housing, Newt got $1.6 million from Freddie Mac.
And Newt shamelessly referred to feathering his nest with taxpayer money as "the standard Washington fee."
And this is all while I was doing everything I could to warn my fellow Members of Congress about just how much damage the housing bubble would cause.
Sadly, Newt was the one Congress listened to, and America paid a steep price.
The truth is, selling access and padding your own personal bank accounts at the expense of your country is hardly conservative.
Neither is supporting $700 BILLION TARP bailouts.
Neither is cutting TV ads with Nancy Pelosi or cosponsoring over 400 bills with her.
Neither is consistently supporting "global warming" legislation and pushing the environmental alarmists' agenda.
Neither is voting with Ted Kennedy to create the Department of Education.
Neither is campaigning across the country with Al Sharpton and Obama's Education Secretary for even more Big Government federal "solutions" for our education system.
Neither is joining with Big Government liberals to slam Paul Ryan's attempt to get our federal budget under control as "right wing social engineering."
Of course, Newt loves to make sure we all know he knows a little about history.
But he constantly demands you and I just ignore his own!

How Can Newt Be A Conservative? For generations, conservatives have defined themselves primarily as being opposed to FDR and the New Deal. This has been as much a conventional part of the American Right as support for low taxes. Still, Newt Gingrich has long heralded Franklin D. Roosevelt as the “greatest president of the 20th century.” Writes Quin Hillyer at The American Spectator: Not just an effective political leader, but THE greatest president of the 20th Century. So says (and says and says and says again) Newton Leroy Gingrich about the father of the confiscatory income tax, the author of multiple unconstitutional infringements of our liberties, and the man who attempted packing the Supreme Court: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embed

Why Gingrich Couldn’t Predict the Financial Crisis (and Paul Could)
What we believe or say often reflects what we are. A Christian will typically contemplate questions within a Christian context. A conservative approaches the world within a conservative context. The same goes for liberals, and so on.
But what if you don’t possess a certain set of principles? Sometimes defying categorization is a good thing. But if you insist that you are a “conservative” shouldn’t this be reflected in your worldview?
What is Newt Gingrich, exactly? What guides his thinking?

Here is Newt Gingrich vs. Ron Paul in predicting the housing collapse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embed
The reason Ron Paul correctly predicted the financial collapse—almost alone—is because he is a constitutional conservative in the strictest sense. Paul’s philosophy is as consistent as it is unwavering. Writes Richard Viguerie, direct mail pioneer and founder of Conservative HQ: “Dr. Paul’s candidacy continues to endure because he runs on constitutional principles and rarely panders to the establishment. And he’s been running that way for going on 40 years.” But why was Newt Gingrich unable to make the same prediction as Paul? Because Gingrich has no solid or consistent set of principles. Said Mickey Edwards, former Republican Congressman from Oklahoma and Chairman of the American Conservative Union: “I’ve known Newt now for thirty years almost. But I wouldn’t be able to describe what his real principles are. I never felt that he had any sort of a real compass about what he believed except for the pursuit of power.” Business Insider’s Michael Brendan Dougherty explains well Gingrich’s lack of conservative philosophy: “Newt Gingrich always has ideas. He has 5-point plans for fixing everything. He’s constantly pitching these ‘solutions.’ Ever wonder why Newt Gingrich has so many ideas? It’s pretty simple. Ideas come to you easily when you have no principles to get in the way of your roaming untrained intellect.” Many conservatives are now scrambling to explain or defend Gingrich’s fairly liberal record. They shouldn’t bother. Gingrich is politically schizophrenic. He’s been this way his entire career. Gingrich could have never predicted the financial crisis because he has no conservative or constitutional philosophy that guides his thinking—which remains as technocratic and micromanagerial as Mitt Romney or even President Obama. Dougherty is right: “Ever wonder why Newt Gingrich has so many ideas? It’s pretty simple. Ideas come to you easily when you have no principles to get in the way of your roaming untrained intellect.” Newt Gingrich’s entire career has been spent rationalizing big government from a Republican perspective. This is why he was so blind to the looming Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac meltdown. It was also because he was working for them.

Does Newt Gingrich Want The Constitution To Die? http://dailycaller.com/2011/12/13/does-newt-gingr
Writes Ann Coulter: The Tofflers were a couple of old folks who couldn’t figure out how to program their VCRs, so they began writing about the “shock” of technology and how we needed government planning to deal with technological overload… Their big idea was that the world was about to change faster than it ever had before, creating a technological explosion that would frighten and baffle the masses… The government would have to have advisers and committees in order to ease the transition. Gingrich… announced that all legislation passed by the new Congress would have to pass a test: Will it help move America into the Tofflers’ vision of a ‘Third Wave’?” Coulter added: ”Not only were (the Tofflers and Gingrich’s ‘Third Wave’ ideas) completely crazy, but Newt’s grand schemes didn’t quite fit the Republican model of a small, unintrusive federal government. To say the least. Whether it's flip-flopping on TARP, supporting the individual mandate that served as a model for "ObamaCare," joining with Nancy Pelosi in support of the global-warming crowd's radical agenda, or making millions off of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as they helped destroy our economy, Newt Gingrich is trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Gingrich Explains His Support for Individual Health Mandate – From the Glenn Beck program 12/6/11:

GINGRICH: I am for people, individuals, exactly like automobile insurance, individuals having health insurance and being required to have health insurance, and I am prepared to vote for a voucher system which will give individuals on a sliding scale a government subsidy so it will ensure that everyone as individuals have health insurance.

President Obama on the individual healthcare mandate, August 2011: “(Obamacare) should not be controversial… the individual mandate’s important… It’s just like your car insurance…”

Gingrich Supported Rockefeller Over Goldwater: Barry Goldwater’s 1964 presidential campaign was arguably the most important in the history of the American conservative movement, leading to the “Reagan Revolution” in 1980 and it continued to have a significant influence on the Right well beyond that particular election. Where was Newt Gingrich in this fight? Supporting Nelson Rockefeller:

The “Principled Leadership” of Newt Gingrich

“I am not inclined to be a supporter of Newt Gingrich’s having served under him for four years and experienced his leadership. Because I found it lacking often times. There’s all kind of leaders, leaders that instill confidence and leaders that are somewhat abrupt, leaders that have one standard for the people that they are leading and a different standard for themselves. I will have difficulty supporting him for president of the United States.” — Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.)

“We had to push Newt because he wanted to cave in… Those of us who told Newt, ‘If you don’t fight for a balanced budget and don’t fight for these tax cuts and don’t fight for the cuts in committee chairmanships, etc., etc., that we promised we were going to do, we are going to kick you out’ — those 10 or 15 or so, every one of them — Tom Coburn, Matt Salmon running again in Arizona, all of them. They may not be saying it publicly, but privately they’re sending me e-mails every day going, … ‘How many times does Newt have to teach these people he’s bad for the conservative movement?’–MSNBC host and former U.S. Rep. Joe Scarborough, part of the “Republican Revolution” of 1994

Via the The American Spectator’s Quin Hillyer:

Former American Conservative Union Chairman Mickey Edwards was even blunter:

“I’ve known Newt now for thirty years almost,” says former congressman Mickey Edwards. “But I wouldn’t be able to describe what his real principles are. I never felt that he had any sort of a real compass about what he believed except for the pursuit of power.”

The Sr. Administrator of HermanCainForums has soundly rejected Newt Gingrich & endorsed Ron Paul. In a Posting on the site he stated: "Now that Herman Cain has dropped out of the race my new candidate is….. Congressman Ron Paul. Ron Paul was the only candidate that actually had remorse for how the media treated Herman Cain and the alleged affairs, I will always thank him for showing respect in that nature, with that said. I had always liked a lot of what Ron Paul advocates, I don’t agree with him on everything but probably 90%. I am going to encourage all Ron Paul supporters to come here and openly support Ron Paul for he is now my new official candidate for President. I was asked to support Newt Gingrich, there is no possibly way I could every endorse Newt Gingrich, how the republican party is supporting Gingrich I have no idea. While Newt has had documented multiple affairs with women Herman Cain’s campaign was destroyed by accusations yet Gingrich is at the top of the polls? What the hell is wrong with the republican party?" Read More: http://bit.ly/hermancainforums-endorses-ronpaul
