WASHINGTON (Official Wire) — As the Senate prepares to begin debating new gun control measures, some of President Barack Obama’s fellow Democrats are poised to frustrate his efforts to enact the most sweeping limits on weapons in decades.
These Democrats from largely rural states with strong gun cultures view Obama’s proposals warily and have not committed to supporting them. The lawmakers’ concerns could stand in the way of strong legislation before a single Republican gets a chance to vote “no.”
“There’s a core group of Democratic senators, most but not all from the West, who represent states with a higher-than-average rate of gun ownership but an equally strong desire to feel their kids are safe,” said Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. “They’re having hard but good conversations with people back home to identify the middle-ground solutions that respect the Second Amendment but make it harder for dangerous people to get their hands on guns.”
All eyes are on a core group of these Democrats, including Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska and Mark Pryor of Arkansas, who are up for re-election in 2014.
The Senate Judiciary Committee begins hearings Wednesday.

As a North Dakota voter, I better see Heidi Hietkamp and Rick Berg opposing Obama’s gun measures or they can say goodbye to DC. The people of ND are not going to put up with this nonsense. Long live the 2nd Amendment!
I am from the bluest corner of a blue state. Both our state senators and our representative are deep blue Demon-rats! We are, among other things, a hunting state. I’ve been waiting for the time to take these ugly, disease-infested rats down, and I’m betting this is the time and place. I’m saving up my pin-money to buy advertising space in the nearest big-city newspaper to point out that these three, just like their mentor and idol, “Beelzebub”, voted for gun bans and ammunition restrictions (which I believe they will)! I will do all in my power to work up such a frenzy that none of them will dare to move back home after they are thrown out of Congress on the fat a$$es by the people of my state! Don’t mess with the Constitution!
Couldn’t agree with you more. I don’t know if you are from my blue state (Illinois) which is also rural when you get out of Chicago. The only good thing about this, is that the Dick Durbin is up for re-election in 2014 and I do hope the Republicans can come up with someone to defeat him.
When I was growing up we had two Republican Senators, Percy and Dirksen and though I absolutely believe both sides are exactly the same, it is time for this scumbag to quit and go to work for a big pharma company, like his wife. He has too much power now and he has to go.
We need to get rid of Dick Durbin. He has never voted for what’s best for the poor saps stuck in the butt-crack state of Madiganistan (formerly ILLinois), never. He votes for what’s best for him and his democrap phonies. If he were working for us, he’d have many more resources sent into the sheet-hole of Shicago to perminantly eliminate, yes ELIMINATE, the gang problem. Then he’d go after the gangs in Springfield who can pass pay raises for themselves and shovel pork projects to friends, but can’t manage to balance the budget or get the pension mess under control. Pathetic, it’s a disease and we need to rid ourselves of this.
My personal policy, and so mnay of my friends seem to be thinking the same, for all elections in the future: incumbent, democrap vote OUT, anyone but you.
Now that voter fraud is being ignored and excepted the Democrats will be in control of Congress after the 2014 election. Then Obama will appoint HIS SCJOTUS. You must realize nothing can stop the Obama machine!!!
If Obama wants to do away with guns all the time.. why does he take his daughters to skeet shoot for?? Is he telling them they’re only pea shooters and not to worry?
All these Democrats better be careful and not let Obama lead them out of a job. He done and can’t be elected again [ even if he does want to] but all those Senators and Congressmen and women that listen to Obama about guns and things may soon be out of work,thanks to the worthless, Low Life, Homosexual , Muslim president Obama!
