A federal judge ruled in favor of a public university who removed a Christian student over her belief that homosexuality is morally wrong. The decision, according to Julea Ward’s attorneys, could result in Christian students across the country being expelled from public university for similar views.
“It’s a very dangerous precedent,” Jeremy Tedesco, legal counsel for the conservative Alliance Defense Fund told FOX News Radio. “The ruling doesn’t say that explicitly, but that’s what is going to happen.”
U.S. District Judge George Caram Steeh dismissed Ward’s lawsuit against Eastern Michigan University. She was removed from the school’s counseling program because she refused to counsel homosexual clients.
The university contended she violated school policy and the American Counseling Association code of ethics.
“Christian students shouldn’t be expelled for holding to and abiding by their beliefs,” said ADF senior counsel David French. “To reach its decision, the court had to do something that’s never been done in federal court: uphold an extremely broad and vague university speech code.”

She should sue the University for denying her right to her religious beliefs. Religious beliefs are guaranteed by the Constitution and God. The 'clients' in question could have been seen by someone else who would cater to them. People should quit trying to play 'God'. That's what the devil does.
I agree that her rights have been violated by the University. I saw a similar case about a University of Augusta, on the news last night. She also was a Christian, and was told she had to accept counseling to Gay and Lesbians. They told her that she had to attend a Gay Rights parade, and if she didn't , she would be terminated from the school. Her lawyer said that is illegal, and unconstitutional. What is going on in America? In some schools, Islamic students are allowed time for their prayers and some universities have installed foot baths for them. I think its about time for all faiths to demand equal time. Maybe students, could request Holy water fonts for Catholics or menorahs for the Jewish , Shinto shrines for the Japanese and etc. Freedom of Religion is slipping away and if we let other factions rule ,they will trample on our rights more and more. Speak up, and let them know we will not give up our religious or any other constitutional right. freedom.

I am a Christian and I am trying to decide what I think about this. I tend to lean toward what you are saying Erik. Jesus spent time with prostitutes and thieves (tax collectors). He didn't become like them, but he loved them and interacted with them in an effort to draw them to the truth. I admire this young woman for standing by her convictions, but at the same time I see the school's perspective. Christians are supposed to be in the world but not "of" the world. She attends a secular, state school. Maybe she should re-enroll at a Christian university to finish her degree. She could stand by her beliefs and probably not have to compromise her position that way.
As I consider this issue further, though, yes this is a dangerous precedent and it is only the beginning. She's probably a grad student in a graduate level class where she is counseling people under the supervision of her instructors. Universities often offer discounted services to the public in order to provide a real-life training experience for their graduate students. I suspect that is the situation she was in when she refused to counsel homosexuals.
I believe I read that they decided to expel her because it was obvious she wouldn't change her mind. She is "supposed" to have a right to free speech and freedom of religion, but that is all being changed because of the new hate crime laws that were passed by stealth as an amendment to a defense spending bill last year (last July I believe?)…a bill they knew would have to pass because it dealt with national defense. There was so much opposition to it at the time that the only way it could pass was through underhanded means.
The current Congress is cranking out some major anti-Constitutional laws, but it's like the fox is watching the hen house. Anybody that could do something about it is either in on the One World Order campaign, or they are being bought off…or threatened. Very sad indeed.
i completely agree. from a logical point of view, this student was wrong. her job was to counsel students, and she didn't do her job. the school didn't ask her to not be a christian; they asked her to do her job, which is to help the general public. like you said, if she wants to only do this job from a christian point of view, she should re-enroll at a christian school and work in a christian practice to avoid situations like this.
but from a CHRISTIAN point of view (i am a christian), it's just crazy to me that she wouldn't want to have anything to do with these people just because they are gay. we are saying now, as christians, that we refuse to even sit at the same table as a gay person or someone who disagrees with our doctrine? it's sad what christians have come to. i hate to say it, but a lot of them are bigots, plain and simple.
