There’s a new report out by the Senate Budget Committee that calculates that “the amount of money spent on welfare programs equals, when converted to cash payments, about ‘$168 per day for every household in poverty.’”
Here’s the math: $168 per day x 365 days = $61, 320.
If someone gave you $61,320 per year with no federal, state, or Social Security taxes taken out, could your family live on that amount? Most likely nearly every family in America could if they chose a modest lifestyle. I know my family could, especially if I didn’t have to pay taxes on any of it.
Not only would you get $61, 320 per year tax free, but you wouldn’t have to work for it. You could stay at home and engage in a hobby of your choice. If you lived simply, you could do some traveling and even save money for retirement.
We keep hearing about how the rich aren’t paying their “fair share” of taxes to “protect benefits that American families rely on,” as Democrat Rep. Keith Ellison tells us. This per diem poverty payout statistic is positive proof that the charge is baseless. Most money that’s collected for taxes is absorbed by the State.

Since we do not have that kind of income in this household, hell yes, we could live royally which is why the “social programs” have to be ousted from any legislature. Charity begins at home, but keeping leeches going is costly! Social Security and Medicare are NOT entitlements so they stay as we paid into them. Every other welfare plan, food stamps, etc. only to those who have lost their jobs under Brown in CA and Obama, and share wealth with all of us if we must, but I want simple Constitutional rights and freedom, and my money spent where I say so, not where some Demo or liberal wants to waste it. No government should be into social programs until we vet it and vote to support us, but only those of us who actually pay taxes to vote on any program. Obviously, the leeches would vote for continuation of my money going to them! No skin in the game, means no vote. Simple. OR charge them income tax on any money given to them. Let them feel the same pinch as the rest of us. No free housing, no free phones, no free anything.
I bet almost every working person who has a family and is not making the big bucks, would love to make this kind of money. My husband and I live off a little over 40,000 per year and we live quite well. However, we don’t have kids, we don’t have a mortage, we don’t have a car payments, but we do have two places, one up north and one in florida. It can be done, but they wouldn’t be able to have all the luxuries like smart phones, cable TV and some other things which they think they are entitled to.
Where do I sign up? Beats working 40 hrs a week for $17,000 a year plus have taxes, insurance union dues taken out of that. On $61,320. I would be living well. I could travel and keep some for retirement, but why even save, the government will take care of me. Tell me where to sign up?
I could live very comfortable, and have a large retirement portfolio
As the #2 man in a top-ranked roofing company, I don’t make that take-home pay. I’ve been working for more than 50 years and have made that kind of money just 2 or 3 times.
The local “news” (read “propaganda”) media here clamored continuously for weeks about the high unemployment percentage among young black men. I went to a city Councilman and two of the leading pastors in the “black” community and promised to supply the necessary tools, materials, time, and expertise neede to train any of these poor souls who wanted a job. In addition, I promised to do the training at no charge. I never got one response. Why would these poor young victims of racial bias want to work when they make much more by avoiding work by every means possible?
The Bible says if a man will not work, neither should he be allowed to eat. No matter what anyone make think of the Bible, that’s a fantastic concept we need to follow. Everyone who is physically and mentally able to work at any gainful employment should be given a job, even if it’s picking up trash along the highway, paid what the job is worth, and cut off from unearned welfare checks of every sort.
Really folks!?! Do you believe welfare recipients get that kind money? Welfare cost are not equal to welfare payment. Payments go to welfare recipients and costs include pay of workers, rental of offices, supplies, etc., etc., etc. Since you appear to be willing to take figures thrown out without any explanation or documentation, let’s go with Rush Limbaugh’s figure that 78 cents of every welfare dollar goes to administering the program. It’s no more accurate than the $168/day figure, but who cares. That doesn’t seem to matter when someone wants to make an absurd point. Absurd points require absurd figures. So deducting administrative costs, that mean the $168 x .78 = $131. So according to Rush $131 a day goes to support the people who are working in the welfare system and $67 a day goes to the welfare recipients. If we had no welfare, all of the welfare workers would be out of work, unemployment would rise and we would go into a recession. So welfare recipients are the only thing keeping the economy afloat. Now does ANY of this make sense to you? If it does, I have some great beach front property I want to sell you in NJ. Check the tide table for viewing hours. Do I believe that we are in need of welfare reform? You bet I do, but it’s not in the form of benefit reduction. Just as we need to cut back on Medicare and Medicaid abuse and administrative costs, we need to do the same for other types of benefits. Come on, sheeople! Think! Question! Reason! Don’t just follow blindly! Let’s find the real solutions to the real problems. Stop playing petty politics and begin to work together to solve the real problems.
Very easily considering what we live on now!
Are they actually admitting that the government is wasting 2 out of 3 dollars earmarked for this?
