Leftism flows freely on the campuses of American universities, though occasional idiocy rises to a level I feel warrants exposure.
Such a case recently surfaced near a community college campus in Ohio.
As construction workers performed their integral service, one female employee was reportedly outraged at the “Men Working” signs erected at the work site’s perimeters.
The staff member’s tantrum apparently forced crews to halt the project until the offending signs are removed and replaced with a more inclusive and politically correct alternative.
Though conceding the incident might have gotten out of hand, a school spokesperson touted the school’s “deep commitment to diversity.”
The source went on to admit “it might not have been necessary to suggest that work be stopped,” but explained the school “stands by its commitment to providing an environment that is inclusive and non-discriminatory.”
This bloviator genuinely contends a “Men Working” sign is discriminatory. More than anything, I believe this case proves how incredibly rare actual instances of discrimination are in today’s America.
Why would people try so hard to drum up outrage over a non-issue such as a construction sign if there was anything else about which they could complain?
In reality, I guess I should be thankful these lunatics were only offended by the first word on the sign. Considering the current age of government dependence, I’ve got to imagine a large number of Americans consider the word “working” a pejorative.

Get real! The signs are proper and the school is out of order and its mind. Wake up, liberals, you don’t us or the world YET! Stupid is as stupid does. Obviously, you all got your degrees by mail.

What do you want to bet that the “female employee” is an ugly as sin battle ax that could never get a date with a man.
Yet another Liberal hag heard from. Now that her 15 nanoseconds of fame are over, she can crawl back to whatever nasty corner of the campus basement she escaped from. The school should fire her out of sheer embarassment.
The fact that the crew was mostly, illegal aliens probably never dawned on her.
Maybe it would have been more appropriate in the circumstances to change the sign to, “Bitch at work”!!
Political correctness and mutliculturalism are symptoms of an insane mind. The woman offended by the “Men Working” sign really needs mental health counseling desperately. It is her mental health which the college administration should be concerned with, not “diversity” and “discrimination”. What in the world did this sign have to do with either of these? SICK!
I find it very sad that supposedly intelligent, educated women spend so much time and energy on something that’s so trivial.
Cripes.
I related this story to my wife, who concurred that the sign “MEN WORKING” is not RPT NOT sexist.
I have two complaints here:
1) “The use of the masculine pronoun is proper in cases of mixed, indeterminate, or unknown gender.” This is what I was taught in grammar school. This is also what I was taught on college – twice (I’ve been two times.) So, no problem there. (This has been correct for every language I’ve ever had a degree of fluency in – well over a dozen.)
2) Were there any women on the road crew? (I ask because I sometimes see women on road crews out here – but the sign still says “MEN WORKING.”) Was THIS woman on the road crew? If there weren’t any women on the road crew, the sign need not be changed. If SHE wasn’t on the road crew, there’s no reason to complain.
3) She’s supposed to be educated – at least somewhat. Has she forgotten how language works?
CONCLUSIONS:
1) Whatever administrator supported this has no spine, as evidence by the fact that he didn’t say some variation on “Get bent” in response.
2) “Political Correctness” and “Diversity” are going entirely too far (Diversity is good to an extent, but they’re taken the “idiot ball” and have been running with it. “Political correctness” is based upon a flawed premise – that one may pick up faeces by the “clean” end. THAT movement never should have gotten started, it’s corrupting language and obfuscating meaning. Has anyone else noted that “politically correct” terms are invariably longer than the terms they replace? “African-American,” for instance, is much longer than the simple “Black” or “Negro” it’s replaced. And, there are WHITE Africans as well – so it’s a misnomer.)
3) People like this “staffer” should probably be put away – if not for their own psychological protection (so they don’t have to deal with all that nasty “non-PC” language!!) then to get them out of everyone else’s misery.
(NB: THIS is the story that finally impelled me to create a WordPress login – I haven’t yet because I have enough logins to keep track of as it is. However, I had to give my “two cents’ worth” for this, even though it’s more like a quarter-cent, what with inflation and all…)
