It was apparently not enough to ban guns for personal protection in crime-ridden Chicago. Recent changes in the city’s police department dictate the majority of crime reports will no longer warrant the dispatch of officers.
According to the department, crime scenes at which a suspect is “not on the scene and not expected to return immediately” and the victim is “safe, secure, and not in need of medical attention” will no longer get a police visit.
Many residents feel that the new policy disregards serious crimes such as burglary and theft.
Even Alderman Nick Sposato spoke out against the change, adding residents “want to talk to a police officer” and “want to know something is being done to prevent this in the future.”
The nebulous guidelines also present a potential problem. A homeowner arriving at his or her residence to find it burglarized cannot immediately know if the offender is still on the premises.
If police publicize the fact they will effectively ignore such calls, criminals can feel emboldened to stay longer at the scene of their crimes.
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said he wants to put more officers on patrol rather than send them to crime scenes.
Himself a victim of “three or four” burglaries, McCarthy contends his policy will best serve the city’s residents.
He said he’d “rather have that officer on the street, doing something to prevent the next shooting than, honestly, making somebody feel better.”
Considering his city’s rampant gun violence problem, leaders should be worried about preventing the next shooting. Unfortunately, the misguided and disingenuous manner in which they are approaching the issue will only ensure more of the same behavior.
With a criminal element almost guaranteed a prospective victim is unarmed due to the city’s strict gun laws and further reassured by the fact police are not inclined to follow up on crime reports, this shortsighted measure like numerous others will likely just exacerbate an already unacceptable situation.

As if crime wasn’t high enough in Chicago, now it will be even more dangerous than ever as you go about your daily activities in Chicago… The shopping, entrainment and tourism will be hurt all the more…. It will look like downtown Detroit in a few years, if we survive that long.
The only place in Chicago will be the donut shops that will have business……want a cop, buy a donut.
This new policy will attract bad guys from other States, knowing that Chicago just put out a welcome mat for the bad guys. The new policy will increase violent crimes and Chicago will set new records for murder throughout 2013.
Jesse Jackson was shilling the other day for Obama’s DHS Gestapo to patrol the streets of Chicago, now that their gun control has made it the murder capital of the country. DHS and other alphabet agencies have recently purchased over 1.8 BILLION rounds of hollow point ammo – enough to shoot every man, woman, and child in the country 5 times or more – ammo that’s illegal for military use under international law, and have just ordered an additional 7,000 FULLY AUTOMATIC “personal defense” weapons. How does anyone with the capability of rational thought escape the conclusion that our government is preparing for a war on its own citizens? Chicago will just be a pilot program for a nationwide program. If they are allowed to continue, it will end up making the Bruce Willis movie “The Siege” look like a good day in Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. Keep your powder dry, you’re going to need it.
Chicago is going back to the days of gangsters in the 1920s. They are going backwards. It makes NO sense. Lord, help the honest people in Chicago.

If Chicago wants to maintain their gun ban so that the law abiding citizens have no personal protection then they should hire about a thousand new police officers. The mayor owes protection to the taxpaying citizens since he took their guns. Rahm Emanuel can’t have it both ways, a scaricy of pareol officers, and a gun ban. Personally, I wouldn’t live in this corrupted, hell hole city.

Citizens and buissinesses should just consider moving out before you are killed, sounds like its just a matter of time.
