Wearing bulletproof vests and carrying 40-caliber Glock pistols, nine California Justice Department agents assembled outside a ranch-style house in a suburb east of Los Angeles. They were looking for a gun owner who’d recently spent two days in a mental hospital.
They knocked on the door and asked to come in. About 45 minutes later, they came away peacefully with three firearms.
California is the only state that tracks and disarms people with legally registered guns who have lost the right to own them, according to Attorney General Kamala Harris. Almost 20,000 gun owners in the state are prohibited from possessing firearms, including convicted felons, those under a domestic violence restraining order or deemed mentally unstable.
“What do we do about the guns that are already in the hands of persons who, by law, are considered too dangerous to possess them?” Harris said in a letter to Vice President Joe Biden after a Connecticut school shooting in December left 26 dead. She recommended that Biden, heading a White House review of gun policy, consider California as a national model.
As many as 200,000 people nationwide may no longer be qualified to own firearms, according to Garen Wintemute, director of the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California, Davis. Other states may lack confiscation programs because they don’t track purchases as closely as California, which requires most weapons sales go through a licensed dealer and be reported.

I don’t trust this ‘mental illness’ as an excuse to take guns away from someone. The tyrants in our government can use so-called ‘mental illness’ as an excuse to take guns away from anyone they want to. They are so worried about people with mental illness being dangerous when these tyrants are the real dangerous people in our society.
You’re correct. They will use any excuse to disarm people. I can understand if a person is violent and mentally ill, not just deemed mentally ill. The person that had his guns confiscated was apparently not violent as the confiscation of his arms was conducted in a peaceful manner.
I agree, I say let’s make DHS surrender their arms if they want us to. What the heck does DHS need 2 billion rounds of hollow point bullets that they refuse to answer why they have this amount of ammunition. Why are they stockpiling bullets at the same time trying to disarm us? Why does the president want to shoot American citizens that he deems a terrorist with a drone? If Obama was to take his own terrorist litmus test he would have to classify himself as enemy of the U.S. being he is supplying weapons and billions of our dollars to the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda. Obama has given our military the litmus test if they won’t shoot American citizens they are out? Wake up people, Obama is planning on killing us right after he disarms us. He is doing all this in plain site and we are so stupid we are doing nothing to declare him a traitor , an enemy. How many of us will have to die before the arrest this illegal president?
I would submit that there are far more dangerous people who have not been diagnosed with a “mental disorder” than there are that have been diagnosed. The government is the enemy, and they mean to disarm everyone, chiseling away at us, bit by bit. The government completely oversteps its bounds over and over again; how much water your toilet can have, what size light bulb you can have in your home, declaring private property (dry desert) as wetlands and infringing on the owner’s rights, condemning private property for commercial developement, and it goes on and on. How long before we see another Ruby Ridge? It’s coming, don’t think it’s not, and the lapdog media will go right along and report what a nutjob the guy is who is only defending his right to bear arms from the Gestapo thugs. When this starts, I hope good neighbors will come to the aid of the citizen under attack, because they will be next if they don’t stop it.

Heads and legs don`t have armor. A good deer rifle should be able to hit a leg or head at 100 yards or so. King George found out snipers kicked his butt.

Tyrants will place a law to make you the criminal. So Mental illness laws passed is only a tactic to disarm Americans. Sooner or later this Gun grab will turn deadly for both sides. As for me? Bullets first. Oh and yes I am of sound mind….
