During an interview with the BBC last Friday, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann was pressed to defend some of her past remarks, including questioning whether the policy priorities of President Barack Obama are really in America’s interest.
“If we look at the collection of friends that Barack Obama has had in his life,” Bachmann told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews in 2008, “it calls into question what Barack Obama’s true beliefs and values and thoughts are. His attitudes, values, and beliefs with Jeremiah Wright on his view of the United States…is negative; Bill Ayers, his negative view of the United States. We have seen one friend after another call into question his judgment — but also, what it is that Barack Obama really believes?”
“Remember it was Michele Obama who said she is only recently proud of her country and so these are very anti-American views,” she said. “That’s not the way that most Americans feel about our country. Most Americans are wild about America and they are very concerned to have a president who doesn’t share those values.”
The Left has extrapolated these comments to claim that Bachmann decried the president himself as “very anti-American.” The BBC questioned Bachmann on this premise and she once again insisted it‘s the president’s “anti-free market” policies which have her worried:

Gosh, how deep is the racism in many White Americans? Many whites, not all, began spewing their hate and lies one week after President Obama took office. They have attack him on every thing that he has done, and what he hasn't done. I to share how First Lady Obama had felt on the election of the first black man to the higest office in the the United States of America. But that was short lived. Then the Republicans, the Tea Party and the "we lost the election group" started their barrage of personal attack of hate and lies at the President. Steve, its about policy not about race. Allen West is a recently elected U. S. Congressman from Florida. He is black and he beat a white man who was the incumbent. Congressman West is a great American Patriot. He believes in our Constitution and the greatness of America. He believes in policies that will help get us out of the economic chaos we are slipping into and he knows how to protect this country since he served as a Lt. Colonel in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was feared by the enemy. He sacrificed his career by standing up for his men to protect them from false charges and a courtmartial. I do not think Barack Obama is a very good president. He is leading this country over a cliff. On the other hand, I think Allen West would make a great president. If he runs for the office some day, there are only two or three people I can think of who I might vote for over him. However, when Congressman West runs, none of these people may also be running. Look for some of his videos on the internet. I promise that if you watch a few of these, you will regain your patriotism. It will be politicians like him, not like Barach Obama, or Hilary Clinton, or Jimmy Carter, who will give Americans real hope for the future.

I agree, actually–but many of those things would violate the U.S. Flag Code, and therefore technically are against the law. That's something that should be kept in mind by those who think a Constitutional amendment to "protect the flag" is a good idea, and by those who think wearing a flag pin is a meaningful reflection of patriotism.

As for approval ratings, which are largely meaningless at this point, anyway, I don't see much of a problem. For one thing, the poll you refer to is from Zogby, consistently criticized for conservative bias of its methodology and interpretation. More importantly, Americans have the attention span of gnats, Obama doesn't face re-election for almost two full years, and Sarah Palin seems to be leading the GOP pack.

PS – Since Christians are commanded to ask God to send severe judgment on persons who commit and support the worst forms of evil (see I Cor. 5 and note "taken away"), Christians everywhere should constantly pray that the Lord will soon "take away" or at least overthrow all US leaders, including Obama, who continue to sear their conscience and arrogantly trample the God-given rights of the majority including the rights of the unborn.
