Congress Deserves A Smackdown For This Pork-Barrell Spending

by Helen Sabin

In the late 1700’s, three term Congressman Davy Crockett, riding the county to gather votes for his next term in Congress, received a “sockdolager” (a knockdown blow) from farmer Horatio Bunch about Crockett’s vote to provide “$20,000 of charity” to an admiral’s wife.

Bunch asked:

Where do you find in the Constitution any authority to give away the public money in charity? …The Constitution, to be worth anything, must be held sacred, and rigidly observed in all its provisions. The man who wields power and misinterprets it is the more dangerous the more honest he is.  You will very easily perceive what a wide  door this would open for fraud and corruption and favoritism, on the one hand, and  for robbing the people on the other.

Here are just a few of the thousands of ways that the president with a complicit Congress robbed the American taxpayer:

  •  Training Chinese prostitutes to drink more responsibly while on the job – $2.6 million wasted;
  •  Upgrading federal employees to “business and first class” when traveling while the taxpaying public flies coach  – $146 million wasted;
  • Replacing sand that is washing away from the beaches through normal erosion.  Replacing sand over and over does nothing to preserve the shorelines.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) states that this action is a waste of money — $3 billion wasted;
  • Video game preservation center in New York –  $113,227 wasted;
  • A remake of “Sesame Street” for Pakistan’s children – $10 million wasted;
  • A documentary to show how rock music helped contribute to the collapse of the Soviet Union –  $550,000 wasted;
  • Solyndra.  $535 million wasted; 1,100 jobs lost;
  • Stimulus: $800 billion stimulus package – 550,000 jobs lost.  “It contained ill-conceived provisions that ignited trade wars with foreign countries such as Mexico, wiping out jobs in our export sector and aggravating America’s trade deficit.  The stimulus package’s green jobs funding, nearly 80 percent of which went to foreign firms, effectively outsourced thousands of American jobs to foreign countries at taxpayer expense.  Two economists concluded that the stimulus wiped out 550,000 jobs.”
  • Green car efforts:  $2.4 billion for the Chevy Volt wasted. The president has set a goal of one million plug-in cars by 2015, but GM only sold 125 Volts in July—with the government buying some of them;
  • Spectra Watt – $500,000 wasted when it filed bankruptcy;
  • Mountain Plaza Inc. - $424,000 – already in bankruptcy, yet it received additional funding from the government.

According to USA Today, the $15 trillion national debt is now equal to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the United States.  We owe more than we make or can produce.

Let’s learn from history.  It is time to give a sockdolager to both Congress and the president by voting them all out. Agree?

Video: Fact Check.Org Misleads Readers: Shame On Them

After the debate on Saturday night in Iowa, (12/10/11) Fact Check.Org posted the following:

“…False and misleading claims were flying again at the latest Republican presidential candidates’ debate in Iowa. Romney falsely claimed that … that Obama favored pre-1967 borders for Israel.”

But Fact Check misleads its readers. Romney was correct. Obama did call for a return to the 67 borders. Listen for yourself:

And read for yourself: Obama May 19:

“…So while the core issues of the conflict must be negotiated, the basis for those negotiations is clear: a viable Palestine, a secure Israel…. We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 line with mutually agreed swaps so that borders are established for both states.”

Unfortunately for Obama, Bibi Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel also understood that Obama wanted a return to the 1967 borders.

Netanyahu also stated,

“I expect to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of American commitments made to Israel in 2004 which were overwhelmingly supported by both Houses of Congress.” Those commitments “relate to Israel not having to withdraw to the 1967 lines, which are both indefensible and which would leave major Israeli population centers in Judea and Samaria beyond those lines.”

Obama receiving that smack down from Netanyahu and seeing that many millions of Americans also thought Obama advocated returning to 1967 borders, the President again tries to spin the topic to his benefit. On May 22, the whiny President complained that that his remarks had been misreported and misrepresented.

He said that what he did was to “say publicly what has long been acknowledged privately.”

He also blamed others as he typically does when caught in a faux pas, saying:

“Since my position has been misrepresented several times, let me reaffirm what “1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps” means. By definition, it means that the parties themselves -– Israelis and Palestinians -– will negotiate a border that is different than the one that existed on June 4, 1967. That’s what mutually agreed-upon swaps means. It is a well-known formula to all who have worked on this issue for a generation.”

Remember when Obama said words matter? In this case they certainly do: “…Different than the one that existed on June 4, 1967” is a totally different sentence and meaning from, “The borders should be based on the 1967 line.” If he had been clear in the first place, the brouhaha wouldn’t have been front page news. He also wouldn’t have had to retrace his words and “splain” them once again as he usually has to as he doesn’t know what he is talking about usually – he just reads the teleprompters and what others have written for him.

Israel has negotiated with the Palestinians before based on the 67 lines, but Obama is the first president to say so publically thereby upsetting everyone involved in the on-going negotiations between Israel and the Arab populations that are in control of the West Bank and Gaza.

Thus – another huge gaffe by the most uneducated, naïve, disingenuous, corrupt, President we have ever had in this country. He can add this huge faux pas to many others of his including giving the Queen of England an I Pod with his speeches recorded on it, and saying that this country had 57 states.

Who Won The Debate?

By Helen Sabin

Las Vegas Debate 260x152 Who Won the Debate?

It used to be that when you read an article on a blog or online, you could type in your thoughts and comments below the article. But change is happening! Due to low readership, the liberal drive by lamestream media now invite readers to respond to an email address or send tweets about an article written.

Hmmmm, I was curious if this would work so I asked my readers who have given me permission to contact them about who won the debate last night. Here are selected answers out of 2000 received so far.

These readers are a true mixture of individuals including ultra right wing, general conservatives, GOP moderates, independents, liberals, and ultra libs who think BHO is the greatest president in the world who hasn’t spent enough! Their occupations range from college professor to military to horse wrangler and retirees. They live all over the United States. Agree or disagree?

Reader One: I thought Newt did the best job of answering the questions last night and interestingly when he speaks, the hall quiets down – did you notice that? Would make a good President. Would love to see him debate Obama – he would eat him alive! Given the loss of Obummer’s teleprompter, BHO would say, uh, uh, ummm, ummm, …..

Reader Two: I liked Cain’s performance but his plan is coming under scrutiny and some say there is a 4th #9 in it – payroll taxes – and it causes the poor and middle classes to pay more.

Reader Three: Newt won clearly, Romney stumbled a tiny bit, Perry had more energy but didn’t raise his profile – he also took severe hits from Romney and didn’t hit back – he has to get some zingers to toss back at Romney. Ron Paul was his usual self – ridiculous and naïve!

Reader Four: I will vote for the person who will WIN! Anyone but Obama! But who actually won? From the answers last night, it was Gingrich! Romney as usual was scripted and he tries to laugh and shrug off when he gets hit hard – didn’t know his lawn service hired Illegals – give me a break!

Reader Five: I am leaning to Newt but I will vote for anyone but Osama who will win and free this country from the socialists! It won’t be Ron Paul or Bachmann or Santorum!

Reader Six: No one won! Paul was the worst of the worst. I am military and when BHO appears – I salute him with my middle finger raised up high! Want a pic?

Reader Seven: I didn’t watch the debate so I can’t comment on what happened yesterday.

Reader Eight: On linguistics, style and command of issues alone, I think Gingrich is head above a few head and shoulders above the rest. And there’s no doubt he would do the best job of any GOP hopeful of debating President Obama. I wasn’t thrilled with Cain’s performance. I’d like to see him come out and say, “Hey, at least I HAVE a plan. Perfect? No. But “good” should not be the opponent of “perfect”. I can’t quite place my finger on it, but something about Romney just makes my hair tingle. His answer on the question concerning faith and its role in governing was masterful, as was Newt’s.

Reader Nine: I didn’t watch. I figured it would be the same old….same old. But I won’t vote for anyone but Obama!

Reader Ten: Newt was great, as always. He is the best at keeping Obama in the cross-hairs and he praises his GOP opponents. Unfortunately, he won’t win the nomination.

Reader Eleven: You may not realize it (as many either don’t or refuse to) but several of the other candidates positions are either direct take-offs or flavored versions of Ron Paul positions that he has held for decades. Also, you should have noted directly last night that more than once the other candidates either triangulated off of or directly agreed with Congressman Paul on several positions. The others have done that through several debates now. If you listen and watch carefully, almost 2/3 of the debate issues were Ron Paul’s issues and ones he has brought up and consistently held. The others were all triangulating off of his positions. On issues of fiscal and monetary policy, the reality of the war spending and foreign policy it seems that Ron Paul is setting the debate parameters.

Lenin Was Right – Occupy Wall Street Protesters Are Useful Idiots!

by Helen Sabin

 Lenin was Right – Occupy Wall Street Protesters are Useful Idiots!
Lenin supposedly coined a term – useful idiots – for individuals he disdained but who sympathized with him and his actions.

The unwashed masses on Wall Street are those same types of idiots – useful for what they can be made to do but disgusting all the same for their stupidity.  Consider Diane Sawyer, who opined that the protest has spread to thousands of countries.  We don’t have thousands of countries in this world!

But we do have small towns like Colorado Springs, Colorado, population 416,000 who also experienced the idiots and their protests.

Last week they decided to stage a protest in downtown Colorado Springs to prove their power. They told an interviewer that they were there to protest the power of the banks and corporations that were evil.

Unfortunately they didn’t think to check the weather on their i-phones or Blackberry’s made by those evil corporations or they would have seen that the weather was changing – from 75 degrees to a frosty 31. Although they tried, the protest fizzled as the protesters were “snowed under.”

But the striking thing about these protesters was that they were just plain idiots, useful or otherwise. Most of the blithering fools couldn’t even coherently express what their economic reasons were for being on the street.

When asked by an interviewer as to why he was there,  one stoned individual said, “I came here to get the chicks.” Of course, he so reeked of marijuana that the interviewer, who was a “chick,” kept smelling the hand on which she had sprayed perfume to ward off his stench.

When the interviewer talked to one couple and told them they actually supported the evil corporations they were protesting, they argued until she pointed out that without the corporations, they would have no cell phones, no cameras, no clothing, shoes, sleeping bags, hats, pillows, socks, blankets, underwear, sweaters, sweaters, hair ribbons, billfolds, fanny packs, necklaces, guitars, bikes, tents, head scarves, tarps, or any other item manufactured by corporations (who employ thousands to make that stuff). “Not true,” they argued, “We bought these things. It’s the corporations that took away jobs that we protest against.”

The following are some of the idiots’ answers when asked why they were protesting:

  • “Do I look stupid?” asked one wearing a blanket around his hips. “I am here to protest the actions of the government who wants us to wear all cotton. This blanket is wool.” When asked if he weren’t cold as the temperature was then about 40 degrees and falling, the idiot replied, “NO I just pull the blanket up. See?” When asked about his feet and legs being bare and cold, the idiot replied, “NO I just drop the blanket. See?”
  • “While every opinion is valid, most aren’t based in fact.”
  • “I am here to get good health care like they have in Cuba,” opined one idiot. “I would also settle for health care like they have in Canada.” How about in Goombaba, Africa, asked the interviewer, and the idiot replied, “Yeah, like there too.”
  • “I want single-payer health care – I want to buy my own health insurance and not have the government tell me I have to buy what everyone else has.”
  • “I am here to show the tea party how to party!” was a final answer before the speaker decided it was too cold outside and he wanted a beer. “I support small businesses not big corporations,” he declared as he walked toward a local pub for a cold brew while pulling on his Columbia ski parka and REI hat.
  • “I owe a lot to my parents who allowed me to be here, especially my mother and father who lost their jobs when Verizon moved to…uhhhh…some foreign country.” “China?” asked the interviewer. “Uh yeah, China or India,” he replied. “I don’t like them, either.”
  • “The government is not doing enough about cleaning up the environment.” “What would you have them do?” asked the interviewer. “Well you know, clean up the environment.”

Yes, useful idiots are everywhere. Even small town USA has its share.

Rick Perry Needs A Debate Coach!

Rick Perry addresses 300x199 Rick Perry Needs a Debate Coach!
At the latest debate, the Republican Presidential Candidate, Rick Perry, should have shone brightly as the new star he was. Instead, he again didn’t sparkle – he looked and sounded tired.

And for those picky women voters who select a president based on his looks and charisma, Perry needs a different haircut and some makeup – as well as a black suit and brightly colored tie! These are subtle changes that would improve his attraction to the audience he is trying to reach.

His campaign manager does not teach him how to share his amazing story nor does he have Perry frame his argument to make people listen. Perry should follow the example of The Mentalist!

This Las Vegas performer brings a volunteer up on stage and repeats a word (three) while touching the volunteers at the same time. He gets the volunteer to pick a number and guess which one it is – of course, three! How does he do it? He repeats the word so the volunteers ears pick it up and he uses the sense of touch to drive home the thought – three!

Perry should do the same thing. He could have used tri colons (I created one million jobs) and repetition of words (as President) to make his point so listeners remember what he says.

Here is how Perry should have formulated his argument on jobs:

As Governor of a state whose budget is in the billions, I created one million jobs! As President I will do the same for the nation.

As President,

• I will make it a priority to work with oil and gas drillers to open up the oil and gas fields here in the United States to create jobs immediately.

• I will remove EPA impediments to getting permits to drill.

• I will put us on the gold standard to prop up our dollar and make it competitive in the world!

• I will make it a priority to get rid of Obama care!

• I will get rid of onerous regulations that are costing us jobs!

Then he sets up a comparison between Romney, Obama and him:

I created one million jobs but Mitt destroyed them. He broke companies apart and sold jobs down the drain. He was like President Obama – a job destroyer!

I created one millions jobs but President Obama destroyed many more as Americans are being laid off every day with no jobs to take.

I created one million jobs and would do so as President by opening up drilling, getting a fair tax that will bring jobs home from overseas, and by stopping spending in congress and paying off our debt which will make others want to invest in the US!

Then he could have used two of the most powerful words in advertising – you, and your, to his advantage.

For example, he should have said, I want your vote to help me help you! You can help me create the jobs that will get our country moving again! If you elect me as President, we will no longer be dependent on Middle East or South American oil – we will have our own resources and lots of well paying jobs to go with them. But it is up to you – You can choose a job creator for president or a job destroyer! Got the idea?

If you know Perry, call him and tell him to read some of Ronald Reagan’s speeches and copy their style. A governor who creates a million jobs is no slouch but it is up to Perry to get that message out to Americans before he drops further in the polls!
