I am a left-handed conservative formerly from the Socialist State of California, USA. Small business owner since my first business while in 4th grade. I was harvesting mistletoe from high in the walnut trees, packaging it in pretty ribbons, two sizes large and small then selling it door to door at Christmas time. Now, a building contractor in South Dakota, and with a little luck and perseverance, will be helping to solve the housing shortage in North Dakota this summer, too. Being the product of the public educational system, raised by two public school teacher, now all three sisters are also public school teachers. The state of California is now openly hostile to small business owners, and especially non--union companies. I was forced to waste an entire day last year to get "lead paint certified" as the latest ridiculous regulation requirement for anybody who wants to paint in California. Not to mention the $250 cost, to be paid to the union dominated school. In any case, I believe in the free market, and education - as long as it is the truth. I believe in leading a person to the facts, history, and hopefully a reaonable conclusion upon honest reflection. That is how I have come to be conservative - being guilty of voting for Jimmy Carter and other disasters like him and now being old enough to see the results. When the people of California put Jerry Brown back in office, and he vetoed the bill which would have required businesses to use the national E-Verify sytem, I gave up and moved my company to South Dakota. I got tired of trying to compete with contractors who are now basically endorsed by the government to use illegal aliens for labor. The customers voted Brown in, so the whole game is now complete.
