Besides his stunning leap in yesterday’s Rasmussen Iowa poll, Newt Gingrich is surging in a few national polls and sagging badly in at least one Iowa poll. What the final numbers will show in Iowa remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, aside from his “paper serving” episode with one of his ex-wives, there are a few additional very important items in Gingrich’s past – some not very far back – that demand a closer look.

Gingrich has been tagged by Willard Romney as the inspiration for RomneyCare and eventually ObamaCare’s requirement for a individual health care mandate which would require all of us to march lockstep into the clutches of a gray, faceless socialist health care system. In his 2008 book Real Change, Gingrich wrote   “Finally, we should insist that everyone above a certain level buy [health-care] coverage [or, if they are opposed to insurance, post a bond].” Post a bond? Really, Mr. Gingrich? And just who would hold the bond money, the federal government?

Gingrich supports a “partial amnesty.” He would accept a “partial amnesty for illegal aliens” to help them game our system. He seems to rely on the liberal’s favorite way to justify destroying our legal system – the old tried and true sob story citing the “plight” of a 19 year old illegal brought here at 3 years old. By his logic there are very few laws that could not be repealed. Mr. Gingrich a “partial amnesty” is like being “partially pregnant” or “partially dead” — it just doesn’t exist.

Despite his kind of, sort of, opposition to TARP before he supported it, he warned us that it was a recipe for, “crony capitalism and the appearance of — if not the actual existence of — corruption.” Why support it then, Mr. Gingrich?

In 1987 Gingrich co-sponsored a bill to bring back the Fairness Doctrine which would have destroyed conservative Talk Radio and Television shows.

Reminding us that being well thought of is still more important than conservative principles Gingrich said, “We do agree our country must take action to address climate change,” while sitting on a sofa with Nancy Pelosi.

In Ma,y Gingrich not only rejected Paul Ryan’s plan for saving Medicare, but said, “I don’t think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering.” When Gingrich asked about his comments, he lied and denied he was talking about Ryan’s plan. To prove it had nothing to do with Paul Ryan’s plan, he apologized to him as any squishy Washington Beltway politician would.

Anyone who thinks Gingrich will be a president who will help restore the power of states as designed by the Tenth Amendment ought to think again. In a Gingrich White House the power over our lives will continue to be sucked up by the voracious appetite of an ever growing federal government. No amount of “right wing social engineering” will save us from a big government fan like Newt Gingrich.

Obama The Destroyer

United States Census data and other publicly available records tell us we may be in worse shape now than most people would believe. Consider these shocking statistics:

  • The Census Bureau reports that in 84 percent of our largest metropolitan areas, the percentage of “very poor” people increased during 2010;
  • The number of people who fell into poverty in 2010, 2.6 million people, was the largest recorded increase since records were first kept in 1959;
  • The number of “poor” has risen from 11.3 percent in 2000 to 15.1 percent today;
  • During  2010, the poverty rate for children hit 22 percent;
  • In at least 314 American counties, a minimum of 30 percent of children live with daily food insecurity;
  • School lunch programs are an indispensible part of the daily food intake for more than 20 million children;
  • More than 45 million Americans live on  food stamps;
  • Since the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007, the number of people on food stamps has jumped 74 percent;
  • Current projections say that approximately 50 percent of all American children will on food stamps at some point before he or she reaches 18;
  • When Medicaid was originated in 1965, just one of every 50 people depended on it. Today, with 50 million enrollees, Medicaid covers one in every six people;
  • One in six Americans now depends on  some kind of federal anti-poverty program;
  • Food pantries and soup kitchens are serving 46 percent more Americans than they were in 2006;
  • There may be as many as 500,000 American children who are homeless in our country today.

These sobering numbers remind us that, because of Obama and his party, the incessant whining of the Left that “We are all just one paycheck away from being homeless or hungry” seems to be bearing down on us.  From day one, Obama has been rocking America’s “boat,” trying to capsize our economy. This guy meant business when he said he wanted to fundamentally transform America.

One year from today, all campaigning will be over. By then it will be too late. Roll up your sleeves. We have work to do.

Grandma and grandpa are not happy! They are sick of the mess the Occupy Wall Street-type brats have made of our country.

This is the conclusion to be drawn from a new Pew Research poll of Americans 66-to-83 years of age on our current political situation.

Referring to this group as the “Silent Generation,” Pew reports that they came of age in time to vote for Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy, so they did not necessarily  fall into the habit of reflexively voting for Roosevelt and the whole Democratic ticket. They had their flirtation with supporting Democrats such as Bill Clinton in the 1990s but didn’t like what it brought about. Since the 2000 election, these “Silents” have been voting at increasingly higher rates for Republicans.

When stacked up against other generations – Boomers, Gen Xers, and Milennials – Pew’s “Silent Generation” is markedly more “angry” at what has happened to the country they grew up in.  Almost one-third of “Silents” blame government (in this case read Democrats) for their anger.

To the “Silent Generation,” the word “conservative” is not a “dirty” word as it might have been to them when they were 15 years old. More and more of them are comfortable self-identifying as conservatives and are eager to go to the polls to back up their change of position. They are increasingly more supportive of smaller government because their life experience tells them big government is the enemy of the America they want to see return.

In 2008 they were one of the only groups that supported John McCain and have not changed their opinion of Barack Obama.  In poll after poll, the “Silents” disapprove of Obama more than any other group.

The really bad news for Obama is that the “Silent Generation” is very politically active. One need only to have looked around at a national TEA Party rally on the streets of Washington with its waves of gray hair to recognize how true this is.

“Silents” believe in American exceptionalism but are worried that America’s best days have past unless they act. More than eight of 10 self-identify as conservative. They don’t approve of gay marriage and many other social changes.

And they will make up 17 percent of the electorate next year.

In  2010, Alabama Democrat Artur Davis left Congress taking his seven percent American Conservative Union (ACU) voting record with him. As a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, he was a reliable knee-jerk  liberal who voted for and against bills that would either help America’s enemies or hurt the American people.

While in a state of delusion, Davis believed his lifetime 22 percent ACU rating could get him elected governor of Alabama. When reality tapped him on the shoulder, Davis left elective politics and went off to be a Washington, D.C., lawyer. Given his record, it is a refreshing surprise to note his 180-degree change of heart on the question of stricter voter ID laws.

Davis wrote to the Montgomery Advertiser recently:

 I’ve changed my mind on voter ID laws — I think Alabama did the right thing in passing one — and I wish I had gotten it right when I was in political office.

When I was a congressman, I took the path of least resistance on this subject for an African American politician. Without any evidence to back it up, I lapsed into the rhetoric of various partisans and activists who contend that requiring photo identification to vote is a suppression tactic aimed at thwarting black voter participation…

[W]holesale manufacture of ballots, at the polls and absentee, in parts of the Black Belt…Voting the names of the dead, and the nonexistent, and the too-mentally-impaired to function, cancels out the votes of citizens who are exercising their rights — that’s suppression by any light. If you doubt it exists, I don’t; I’ve heard the peddlers of these ballots brag about it, I’ve been asked to provide the funds for it, and I am confident it has changed at least a few close local election results.

But demanding integrity in voting is neither racist, nor raw party politics.

It is interesting that with a few exceptions that reflect political pressures I understand pretty well, the new Alabama ID law still has not become that much of a political football. The same can’t be said in other states or at the national level. I was disappointed to see Bill Clinton, a very good president and an even greater ex-president, compare voter ID to Jim Crow, and it is chilling to see the intimidation tactics brought to bear on African American, Democratic legislators in Rhode Island who had the nerve to support a voter ID law in that very liberal state.

The case for voter ID, however, is a good one, and it ought to make politics a little cleaner and the process of conducting elections much fairer. I wish I’d gotten it right the first time.

Better late than never, Mr. Davis. Welcome aboard.

Is Obama’s DHS Helping Illegal Aliens Commit Voter Fraud?

As with all of Obama’s major voting blocks, Hispanics have begun to drift away from The One. They have come to recognize that they were mistaken to think Obama’s Marxist economics would help them prosper and reach equality in our society.

Nevertheless, as a good little socialist, nothing stops Barack Obama from lying to anyone, so Hispanics have achieved at least this much: they are being lied to just as everyone else is being lied to by Obama.

Lies in the ICE Report

When fiscal year 2011 ended last month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton told the world his agency had “deported more than 396,000 illegal immigrants nationwide.” This, we are told, is far more than George Bush deported in 2008. Claiming the increase was the result of “smart and effective” enforcement at a press conference, Morton skipped the news that his own people have given him a “no confidence” vote, because they know his numbers are erroneous.

To appear to be doing more than he is, Morton counted voluntary surrenders made by now-stranded and desperate Mexican illegal aliens. They can’t find work, and don’t want to enter into a life of crime to stay here, so they turn themselves in to get a free ride home.

The truth is that Obama has sharply curtailed the ICE workplace raids, which have been so effective at rounding up illegals and creating job openings for out of work American citizens.

What is true about the Obama administration’s Hispanic policy is that it is calculated to help his re-election campaign.

Consequently, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has announced that through the use of “prosecutorial discretion” she has effectively given license to illegal aliens to work here in America without fear of deportation. Presumably, they would merely have to vote for Obama and his party next year in return.

Since even the cooked books cannot hide a 9.1 percent unemployment rate and an economy in which at least 14 million American citizens are looking for work, what other explanation could there be?

Obama’s 55 Percent Problem

These are not good times for the Barack Obama. Everywhere he looks his support is sagging and failing. More than this, an oddity seems to be hanging over his head that can best be described as his 55 percent problem. The figure 55 percent is killing his career.

Consider the 55 percent problem that he has:

Poll: 55 percent of Americans Say Obama One-Term President:

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 55 percent of Americans believe Obama will lose and be a one term president.

Poll: American Jewish Committee finding:

The AJC survey of Jewish voters found that while last year 55 percent of their respondents approved of Obama’s economic policies, now a stunning 60 percent disapprove of his handling of the economy. Last year, 55 percent of respondents approved of his policies toward Israel, now 53 percent disapprove.

Gallup Poll: Obama’s approval among Hispanics down to 55 percent:

The latest Gallup Poll of Hispanics reveals that Obama’s support has fallen from 66 percent in 2008 to 55 percent today.

Turner beats Weprin:

In the September 13 special election to fill the vacant New York 9th Congressional seat, the Republican Bob Turner won with 54 percent in a district Barack Obama won in 2008 with 55 percent.

A Pew Poll from July said:

Among 18 to 29 year old voters Obama’s support is down to 55 percent approval versus 37 percent disapproval. While this sounds comforting, this 18 point spread is down from the 30 point spread Obama enjoyed at the start of the year. Last November the so called “Youth vote” went 55/42 for Congressional Democrats but was not able to stop the Election Night blood bath.

Rasmussen Poll on banning offshore:

Last spring a Rasmussen survey found 55 percent of likely voters oppose Obama’s 7 year ban on offshore oil and gas exploration and drilling.

A CNN poll:

Last month a CNN/ORC (Opinion Research Corporation) reported that Obama’s disapproval rating among all respondents has climbed to 55 percent the highest this poll has found thus far.

This man must see the number 55 percent in his sleep.

When Obama gets crushed next year, it will probably be a safe bet to play the number 055 with your local bookie. Clearly, 55 percent will be the death of Barack Obama’s presidential career.

We all remember how revolting it was watching Barack Obama kowtowing and kissing the rings and butts of thugs and sheiks around the world. An especially sickening image of Obama comes to mind. It is a picture of Obama bowing to an over-stuffed sheik at the G-20 meeting in London in March 2009. From left to right we see an Asian diplomat with a look of horror and disgust on his face,  in the middle we see Nicholas Sarkozy with a  smug smile only surpassed by the knowing grin of Dominique Strauss-Khan. How wonderful! The president of what is supposed to be the most powerful country in the world kissed the ring of a Muslim leader while the world’s leaders look on.

Now the degradation of America has continued, and Obama has outdone himself. Obama’s State Department (run by Hillary Clinton) has contacted the family of al-Qaeda propagandist and recruiter Samir Khan to “express its condolences” to his family.  Samir Khan a right hand man to Anwar al-Awlaki, was killed along with his jihadist buddy in an air strike in Yemen that took place on September 30.

A Khan family spokesman even went so far as to say he felt State was not only apologetic for killing Khan, a terrorist enemy of America, but for not giving its condolences sooner. By way of background, Khan was an American citizen who maintained an anti-American web site while he lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. Two years ago, he left for Yemen to help produce Inspire, an English language blog. In an early introductory essay, Khan described himself as “proud to be a traitor to America.” He was also the author of Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom.

This man was a self identified enemy of America whose death should be celebrated, not apologized for.

This turncoat forfeited his rights to due process, no matter what some judge might say after the fact. He brought about his own death, and we have no culpability in his case.  Because of his inflammatory writings, he was and still is a gave danger to innocent Americans, and that fact should trump anything else.

They don’t want apologies; they want our lives. To the world’s Islamists, if you are not a Muslim you are a “Harbi,” and you have no right to live because you are at war fight Islam. Your existence is an insult to Allah. The quicker we come to accept this, the better it will be for us.

The Fraud In The Straw Hat’s War On The Catholic Church

For discerning Roman Catholics, watching their fellow Catholic voters support Barack Obama by a 54 -45 margin in 2008 inspired them to wait for the opportunity to utter an inevitable “I told you so” — but there no joy in being right.

While we knew very very little about who Obama was at that time, since his election what has become known about him can best be elicited by bringing to mind the picture of a young, dope smoking Barack Obama wearing a straw and a Cheshire Cat grin. The picture of the 22-year-old Obama told us, “I’m gonna stick it to you, America” — an attitude we now live with everyday. That picture should be entitled, “The Fraud in the Straw Hat.”

Now the Fraud in the Straw Hat is sticking it to us, and it’s the Catholics’ turn. Because people like Cardinal George of Chicago who, as both the Bishop of Chicago (where Obama is reportedly from) and as head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) did essentially nothing to warn Catholics about the Fraud in the Straw Hat, Obama was elected our president.

Because of another collaborator with Obama and his evil, Fr. John Jenkins, the president of Notre Dame helped him gain respectably, Obama was able to force us into ObamaCare. When Jenkins invited Obama to be his commencement speaker in 2009, he gave him cover against the valid charge that Obama hates the Catholic Church. To be more precise, Obama hates the Church when Her clergy act like Catholic priests, but loves the Church when priests like Father Jenkins roll over and imitate liberal mainline Protestant ministers.

Now under new leadership, the USCCB is warning Obama that his steady destruction of marriage will “precipitate a national conflict between church and state of enormous proportions”

Father Jenkins has joined with the heads of other Catholic institutions to protest the sections of ObamaCare that will force them to provide abortions, either directly in the case of hospitals or indirectly in the healthcare packages they offer to their employees.

Where were these Catholic churchmen when it counted?

Sadly, the damage done by foolish Catholic voters and complacent Church leaders has been done.  We can’t change the past. We can only hope that some intervening events stop ObamaCare and save marriage from his evil intentions. We can only pray that next year Catholics don’t get fooled by the dope smoking Fraud in the Straw Hat again. Willful ignorance has done enough damage.

Dead Teenagers: The Human Face Of Obama’s Amnesty

On the evening of April 17, 2009, the real meaning of what Barack Obama’s call for shared sacrifice was forced on the families of Leigh Anna Jimmerson and Tad Mattle, a 19-year-old from Huntsville, Alabama, any family would be proud to claim. Tad was more than a typical teenager. Leigh Anna was Tad’s girlfriend. (Family and friends said they were a great couple.) Tad was an Eagle Scout who planned to attend the University of Alabama on a full academic scholarship. If ever there were a young man with his whole life in front of him, it was Tad Mattle.

That changed forever around 9 p.m. on that spring night as Tad and Leigh Anna, a high school sophomore, were stopped at a light in their hometown of Huntsville. Suddenly, they were dead. A drunken illegal alien traveling approximately 70 miles per hour slammed into the rear end of Tad’s car, causing the two to burn to death.

The other driver was Felix Ortega, a criminal who sneaked into our country. He was leading police in a high speed chase through crowded city streets. His blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal level, and he had three prior drunk driving arrests under three different phony names. This upstanding example of humanity survived the crash.

That night the Mattle and Jimmerson families learned firsthand about Barack Obama’s call for “shared sacrifice.” Spurred on by this ugly episode,  the state of Alabama has acted to protect its citizens with what is being called the toughest anti-illegal immigration law in the country.

A law such as this one could not sail into implementation without opposition, even in the deep Red South. Not surprisingly the religious community in Alabama has voiced its antipathy toward this hardline stance.  Alabama’s bishops are unified in an effort to roll it back — and of course, they are joined by the ACLU.

Their opposition begs a few questions: Do the lives of these “objectors” bring them into contact with the criminals they are beating their breasts to protect? Are they being threatened everyday by violent thugs who laugh at our police? Are any of them in danger of losing their jobs or livelihood to an illegal alien?

Do they think the only human faces in this debate belong to the illegal aliens we don’t want in our midst? Or are they the only ones who count?

Bob Turner Defeats Obama

Let us all salute Bob Turner, an American patriot who endured everything the Democrats could throw at him and won!

Last night, the national Democrats met the Ghost of Election Night Future. Their noses were rubbed in the dirt Barack Obama has dropped all over their party.

No matter how their sycophants in the media try to spin it, Republican Bob Turner’s stunning upset victory over Democrat David Weprin in a Congressional district in which Democrats outnumber Republicans three-to-one is an ominous sign for Barack Obama and the hundreds of down-ballot victims he will drag to defeat next year.

All last week’s attempts to explain away Weprin’s sinking poll numbers have been wiped away in the clash of a landslide. The Democrats have lost a seat they had held since 1923. Turner’s victory is on the order of Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts. There is no upside for Obama and his party in this loss. There are no plausible explanation that does not include his repudiation.

Nonetheless, the media repeat empty claims that the district has been “trending Republican.” The reason Republicans show any signs of life in NY-9 is the recent legacy of Anthony Weiner. Last year his obnoxious behavior chased the district’s small number of Republicans to the polls to vote against him. While they were there, they voted for McCain, which is the reason Obama “only” carried the district by a 55-45 margin. Weiner built the foundation; Obama insults to the district’s Jewish and blue collar Democratic voters completed the edifice.

Turner’s victory was a foreseeable byproduct of the smug arrogance of liberal Democrats, especially those who run America’s big cities. When Weiner imploded and was forced to resign, the party selected a candidate who does not even live in the district. This contemptuous attitude backfired because, until yesterday, national Democrats had been deluding themselves about how much damage Barack Obama has done to their party.

The Democrats’ “Chickens Have Come Home to Roost.”

One can only laugh at talk of Barack Obama being in a “close” race next year. The Democrats will face a much harder time even fielding candidates in many parts of the country.

What incentive will Democrats offer challengers to incumbent House and Senate Republicans to make candidates willing to put up at least $100,000 of their own money – much more in some big market districts – to run with Barack Obama hanging around their necks? In competitive races across the country in 2012, Democrats will have to settle for second- and third-tier candidates, up-and-comers, and “also rans,” whose lack of appeal will destroy those below them on ballots across the country.

In the words of Barack Hussein Obama’s spiritual adviser, the Democrats’ “chickens have come home to roost.” Electing him was the worst mistake the Democrats have made in a very long time. Bob Turner’s victory yesterday was one reminder. We will send another next year.
