Here, I explain…
Black Conservatives Conserve What?
My Take On The Recent Shooting In New Orleans…
Rand Paul Did OK At Howard University
There was only one Jack Kemp. God knows we need his all-American appeal to conservative and urban audiences at a time when the GOP is attempting frenzied “minority outreach.”
(I put “minority outreach” in quotes because involvement is more my cup of tea.)
That aside, Senator Rand Paul’s Howard University speech set the outreach march on steadier ground.
Instead of sounding like a Democrat with a removable “R,” he was himself, which is all American blacks (pro and con) should ask of him.
I don’t think I’m alone is saying I don’t need White folks adopting minstrel show phony drawls (see Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden), nor drop obvious applause lines based upon our religious or civil rights experience.
Just talk to us.
From the podium and during Q & A, he addressed his stance on issues like the Civil Rights Act that got him in hot water in the past.
One mistake I think Black folks make is demanding that those far removed from our community magically address us as if they’ve been lifelong insiders.
Rand Paul is obviously a White male libertarian and Republican US senator. Some of his conclusions on the GOP or icons like Ronald Reagan differ from those of the Black liberal mainstream.
That his conclusions differ from those of the Black liberal mainstream doesn’t necessarily make him a villain.
American Blacks of Paul’s generation should focus less on what happened in the past and more on what can be done now to distance ourselves from the limitations of yesteryear.
Rand Paul was born in the South three years ahead of me. We came of age in a region forced to confront its Apartheid by federal troops and legislative leveraging from the White Hosue and Capitol Hill.
A lot of Black liberals will charge that he doesn’t “get” Black folks. I wonder: does “Mt. Negro Dialect” Harry Reid “get” us any better?
I’d argue that Rand Paul’s decriminalization of what he calls “victimless drug crimes” alone has the potential to liberate several generations of Black men who chose drug-dealing as a profession.
That stance resonates far more with the Black liberal (and parts of the conservative) mainstream than with anti-drug hardliners like myself.
I consider crack, heroin, meth, and other chemical angels of slow motion death to be nothing less than satanic in their design and impact.
Drug decriminalization is a big libertarian coalition builder, and within it lies the glue for adding American Blacks who feel that the War on Drugs is racist.
This topic, along with libertarian aversion to intrusive policing and an aptly named “warfare state,” were rightly shared by Paul at Howard University- just like he does elsewhere.
I think he did ok during his Howard University speech, precisely because he remained himself and didn’t deviate from trademark philosophical positions.
I expect White folks to be themselves and not put on patronizing productions designed to pacify us.
Rand Paul did ok at Howard University and thus far is ok by me as someone offering the GOP political viagra if they’re willing to take it.

GOP: Genuflecting Ourselves Party?
The GOP Establishment is moving at warp speed to reload itself to attract a more liberal voter than what was once considered its base.
The term “libertarian” is being bandied about, but perhaps “liberal-tarian” is more accurate.
Establishment Republicans don’t want to appear liberal. Seeming openly socialist is the last thing they want – at least until the 2014 midterm results are tallied.
That’s why so many warm to libertarianism, at least on social issues like gay marriage and drug legalization, where they feel they can woo away Obama voters.
They fear the president’s two victories presage a post- modern, Roosevelt-style coalition that will have Democrats in the White House for generations.
The irony is while socially liberal, libertarians are frighteningly anti-government by progressive and even mainstream conservative standards. They make Newt Gingrich and Paul Ryan look like Hippies on fiscal matters.
I guess the Republican establishment wants liberal-tarian street cred on social issues while stuffing the more fiscally unpleasant aspects of libertarianism in their proverbial back pockets.
How or if this 21st Century version of 1960s fusionism (traditionalism plus laissez-faire economics) can happen is a magic trick to test the legerdemain of David Copperfield.
What worries GOP purists and pragmatists alike is whether an internet edition of Roosevelt-era “Me Too” Republicanism will save a nation they feel has abandoned all that made it great.
In their minds (mine included) is the sinking suspicion that the GOP has morphed from meaning “Grand Old Party” to “Genuflecting Ourselves Party,” before the altar of political expediency.

It Doesn’t Take A Village To Raise Black Kids
Sigh, some Black folks (it’s ok- I’m Black too) really take this “It takes a village to raise a child” stuff too far.
Recently, MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry famously said in this much quoted excerpt:
…we’ve always had a private notion of children, your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.
Hmm, so when Thomas Jefferson (yes, I know he owned slaves) promoted universal public education for American youth, was this the act of someone with a “private notion of children?”
When people’s houses are held hostage by county property taxes that often fund local public schools, is this another instance of private notions of children?
Are local option sales tax increases to upgrade public school infrastructure signs that the public plays no substantive role in young lives, especially when every state and the federal government have departments of education toward this end?
20th century visions of armed American troops and deputy US marshals fighting rabid mobs over public school desegregation dance through my mind’s eye as I type this.
A nation committed to a “private notion of children” would have spared itself such destabilizing drama and simply let educational Jim Crow stand until such time, if ever, that states wearied of it.
I find the good doctor’s perspective interesting since negation of parental control has dogged Black parents since our involuntary importation to these shores.
Slavery and Jim Crow aside, Dr. Harris-Perry’s side of the aisle seems hellbent on undermining Black parents by stripping them of school choice, an opportunity taken for granted by wealthier, often Whiter Americans; disarming them legislatively within Hoods overrun by chocolate Klansmen; demonizing our use of corporal punishment; and supporting a welfare system separating low-income parents to keep benefits flowing and a popular culture/public education complex at war with values traditional parents try to raise their children with.
If this is what the 21st century “village” offers, Black parents’ only hope rests in taking a “private notion” of their children to its exponential limit.
Otherwise, today’s vile “village” will own their children, body and soul.
I respectfully disagree with Dr. Harris-Perry and ask her to look no further than the ruins of New Orleans’ Black community as stark proof supporting my argument.
It doesn’t take a village to raise our kids- it takes united mothers and fathers raising them long before the rest of society enters the picture.

GA Black Elected Official Sets New Low
Brunswick, GA city commissioner and mayor pro tem James Henry Brooks should be ashamed of himself for interfering in this extremely hot button murder case.
His bungling reminds me yet again that Black faces in high places doesn’t necessarily mean colorblind governance!
Quite the contrary, as we see.
Brooks attempted to assist the prime suspect’s mother by advising her not to talk to a police officer who’d approached her.
Memo to Black elected officials: dipping segregation-era interposition and nullification in chocolate doesn’t make it any less wrong!
This case promises to heighten tensions in ways that will make Blacks who practice racial double standards when it comes to crime rue the day they did so.
Bet on it!
A 13-month old is dead, and justice for him and closure for his family should be the only priority- not running interference for a murder suspect and the mother covering for him.
Mr. Brooks set a new low with this stunt.

Pregnant Lesbians And Other Topics Grand Ma Wouldn’t Understand
My maternal grandmother was a retired social studies teacher and traditional American. Each epic downturn away from once unquestioned precepts prompted in-depth discussion and shared concern for America’s future that strengthen me to this day.
On Wednesday, March 28th, 2013, Jenna Wolfe, a weekend host of NBC’s “Today Show,” made two announcements that would have shocked my late grand ma:
She not only said she was pregnant, but also that she was involved with a female reporter from another network.
I’ve yet to understand why upper-income female homosexuals opt to have children. Lower-income ones do so to qualify for public assistance, something unnecessary for a pair of national network reporters.
Grand ma and I would have grappled with the apparent contradiction of a pregnant female couple and extrapolated this development in the Black community, where uniting a moribund heterosexual family unit should be our top priority.
It hurt having to watch grand ma experience profound disappointment as values fell away in the community and America like layers of an onion.
The Greatest Generation’s dubious reward for surviving the Great Depression, World War II, Jim Crow, and the Cold War shouldn’t have been a country hellbent on tossing God and traditional values into the ash bin of history.
Everything that makes healthy civilizations seems under successful attack by those anxious to re-create the fall of ancient Rome and Greece on these shores.
As I attempt to wrap my flexible but appalled mind around the paradox of pregnant lesbians, it’s clear this is yet another modern topic grand ma wouldn’t have understood.

Dr. Ben Carson Dissed By MSNBC Lefty
No good Black conservative ever goes unharmed; feast your eyes on this video vignette from liberal hatchet man Toure, about Dr. Ben Carson:
Toure repeatedly charged Republicans with “not caring” about Black folks??? Hmmm, I didn’t know that I as an American Black needed White people to “care ” about me.
Does that mean that White Democrats, whose polices destroyed the Black family unit and inflated street thuggery, “care” more about me?
This is what I call the “Care Gap,” where Black liberals invoke how much more their White folks like Negroes than evil old White conservatives.
In their eyes, White Democrats are good masters who pull us to their heaving bosoms and provide programs making our miserable lot as children of a lesser god more tolerable.
I would tell Toure where he could shove this type of silly reasoning, but I write for rated G audiences.
Suffice it to say, the Care Gap argument rudely deployed against Dr. Ben Carson means the good doctor’s tenure as a Black history figure liberals pointed to with pride is over.
Toure’s diss (to use an Old School ’80s phrase) of Dr. Carson means Black liberals have gotten marching orders to ethnically excommunicate someone they revered a short time ago.
Don’t let socialists somewhere in the bowels of the DNC tell you which Black people you can like.
THAT’S being an Uncle Tom for Democrats, and Toure and others should know better.

Obama’s COINTELPRO II: Tea Party
Liberals and conservatives should unite to oppose federal spying on the Tea Party and allied groups. Today, it’s their party; tomorrow, it could be yours!
