George Washington: The Humble Statesman

George Washington 2 SC George Washington: The Humble Statesman

In 1789, Americans unanimously elected George Washington as their first President.  Since then, many presidents have come and gone; yet, Washington holds the honor of being the only president in the history of the United States to garner such loyalty and affection from the American public.  Washington was an admirable man because of his excellent leadership qualities; but another outstanding quality of this great leader, often overlooked, was humility.  Even at the pinnacle of his power, Washington maintained a humble stance towards his role as the President of the United States of America.  As President, he never wavered from assuming the role of a public servant over that of a mighty ruler – a position that most modern presidents have often ignored.

Washington did not seek the presidency himself but accepted the honor as a service to his country.  In his First Inaugural Address, Washington noted that, “I was summoned by my Country, whose voice I can never hear but with veneration and love.”  As such, the first President reflected a Statesman more than reflecting a Politician.  Perhaps the most significant difference between a “statesman” and a politician is that the former wished to serve his country; the latter is more interested in serving himself at the expense of the country.  Indeed, even when the opportunity presented itself, Washington was quick to decline from accepting “any share in the personal emoluments” or monetary gains for himself.  For Washington, the opportunity to preside over the nation presented the chance to serve Americans instead of depriving them of their liberties.

To be sure, Washington had many flaws; but for the new Americans, his humbleness overshadowed any discrepancies he possessed.   Indeed, his humility was as much, perhaps even more so, a part of his greatness.  For example, he admitted that he had received “inferior endowments from nature” and was quite “unpracti[s]ed in the duties of civil administration.”  Incredibly, even after winning the Revolutionary War against the greatest world power at the time, Britain, Washington remained “peculiarly conscious” of his many “deficiencies.”

Again, in his Second Inaugural Address, Washington maintained the same humility that was the hallmark of this great man.  Instead of a flowery speech, he was succinct and stated that if he ever “violated willingly or knowingly the injunctions” of the Constitution during his term that “(besides incurring constitutional punishment)” he should “be subject[ed] to the upbraidings of all who are now witnesses of the present solemn ceremony.”  Washington remained steadfastly faithful to the vision of the American Revolution throughout his presidency.

Of all American presidents, Washington most assuredly had the perfect opportunity to abuse his presidential authority.  Yet, instead of getting intoxicated with power and destroying the nation, he maintained his humbleness throughout his term.  Even when a deep political cleavage became apparent in his administration, Washington maintained a neutral position on most matters.  His vision was always to keep Americans united in the principles of liberty.  He managed to perform the arduous task of remaining above political factions by sheer determination and humility.  Perhaps it was easy for Washington to do so because instead of being a duplicitous character, he was naturally humble in his personal and public life.  For Washington, leading the country always remained an opportunity to promote the idea of liberty and not a chance to generate wealth for his own pocket.

Today, Washington remains mostly forgotten, or worse, criticized by those who feel the founding principles need to be reformed.  Instead of trying to change the fundamental concepts of the nation, principles that once heralded the United States as a superpower, it might be more helpful for Americans to consider the vision provided by those who fought and died for our liberties. For those seeking to lead the United States today, a lesson in humility from George Washington would make a great start in uniting the nation in hope of moving forward.

Why The Left Is Afraid Of Dr. Benjamin Carson

Ben Carson SC Why the Left is Afraid of Dr. Benjamin Carson

Dr. Benjamin Carson’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast last week astounded many Americans.  Some people found strength in Carson’s straightforward discussion about God, family, and politics; yet, other people found the speech offensive.  Perhaps no other person categorized Carson’s speech as inappropriate for the occasion more than Bob Beckel.

According to Beckel, Carson’s main purpose in speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast was to gain “15 minutes of fame.”  Beckel’s accusation is laughable at best and shows a level of ignorance and incompetence that has become typical of Progressives as of late.  If only Beckel had behaved in a manner befitting a true journalist and done his research, he would have found out that Carson is a well-known and highly respected professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the reputable Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  Additionally, he has served as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for more years than Beckel can count.  Carson holds over 50 honorary doctorate degrees and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Horatio Alger Society of Distinguished Americans, amongst other prestigious organizations.

In his speech, Carson used charm, wit, charisma, humor, and intellect to address important issues that concern many Americans today.  Unlike Obama’s speeches laden with empty rhetoric, Carson discussed the significance of our liberties, the burden of taxation, and the importance of education for all Americans.  Yet, instead of recognizing the significance of the speech to America’s future, detractors such as Beckel have tried to undermine the position of this great American.  For Beckel, it would seem that Carson’s gravest sin was his conservative political stance on the issues.  Apparently, Beckel has no qualms about applauding speeches given by a man out of touch with America’s heritage with a shady background.  Clearly, being a conservative American who loves God, country, and the Constitution would offend any Progressive, especially one as ignorant as Beckel.

“‘Tis Well”: An Original Poem

George Washington 2 SC “‘Tis Well”: An Original Poem

On a cold December day,

The sky was dull and gray.

The river Potomac lay frozen,

The sounds of birds, painfully broken.

People arrived in droves for the procession,

Many aghast at the shocking revelation.

A great white steed trod slowly through the crowds of Virginia,

The empty saddle signifying the great loss for America.

The one Wheatley praised for his valor and virtue more,

Now lay forever behind heaven’s door.

Despite his request for a private burial,

Americans flocked to see the greatest memorial.

Thunderstruck most were for they could not have conceived,

A man as great would so soon be grieved.

The troops, the band, the mourners marched on,

Heavy hearts, each, in disbelief that he was gone.

The clergy prayed and the Masons performed the final rites,

Some watched while others took to flight.

The shroud concealed the greatest American,

Who lived by principles now long forgotten.

In the simple red brick tomb in Mount Vernon he now lays,

Unaware of the mayhem of his country’s present days.

A man once celebrated and unanimously elected,

Is now forgotten and mostly disrespected.

For ‘tis true he was born in February,

But they will not even honor his memory.

Columbus Day they gladly celebrate,

But a special day for this extraordinary Leader, they hate.

Of all the politicians we see,

He was the greatest Statesmen there shall ever be.

Should you ever hold a dollar in your hand,

Do remember that George Washington was a great man.

“What Difference Does It Make?”: An Original Poem

Hillary Clinton Jabba SC “What Difference Does it Make?”: An original poem

“What difference does it make?!” demanded Hilly of Johnson

Uttering the tragic words that rang across the room into the hearts of all Americans

What difference does it make indeed

Four American heroes are dead and the hearts of their families still bleed

What difference does it make

Whether Americans vote or eat government cake

What difference does it make if people must use healthcare that kills

As long as the government can tell you how to pay the insurance bills

What difference does it make to crucify Christ again

There are plenty of trees to hug and earth to freeze all in vain

What difference does it make if innocent children are dead

A crisis must not be wasted but used to squash the rights of Americans under the guise of moving ahead

What difference does it make if they trample the Constitution all over

So long, as the liberals have hope to give it a new makeover

What difference does it make that women head to the front lines while men remain behind

As long as we go forward and change the course of humankind

What difference does it make that our children forget their history

Even as the politicians in Washington remain obscure to our misery

What difference does it make that our enemies scoff and laugh at us

So long as we can help them and negotiate our future with the one who is most preposterous

What difference does it make when the economy collapses

Hope and change will still have moved the masses

“What difference does it make?” you say?

It makes a big difference to me and to all those who still believe in the USA.

“Enough” Say We The People

Tea Party SC Enough Say We the People

During an online search for re-financing my car loan, I visited several websites to determine which bank would offer me the best possible option.  Few of the banks offered the choice to complete an online application for re-financing, and I selected the one that was best for my situation.  The online application required answers to a number of questions to complete the process.  Listed below are the top ten mandatory questions all applicants need to answer to get a loan from the bank:

1.  Loan type

2.  Current monthly payment

3.  Payoff amount

4.  Current loan remaining term

5.  New loan requested term

6.  Gross income

7.  Other income

8.  Name of employer

9.  Time at current employer

10.  Employment status

As I answered the questions, it made me think more about the state of our nation’s current financial crisis than re-financing my car.  For example, if I must answer, at the minimum, the above ten questions to get a loan processed by the bank for a car re-finance, should not We the People ask our government the same questions about the money they keep demanding from us to pay off the national debt?  Some will argue that we have asked the questions.  Perhaps we have, but we have yet to receive straight answers to our questions.  The banks get to judge our creditworthiness before giving out loans; should not We the People also judge the government’s creditworthiness to see if it is worthy of receiving our hard-earned money?  In the same spirit as the banks, perhaps Obama can answer a few questions that require straight answers.  I shall be somewhat more generous than the banks here and ask him to answer only five mandatory questions for all Americans instead of the required ten by the banks:

1.  How much money exactly does he want to spend?

2.  How long exactly does he want to spend the said amount?

3.  What will the money be spent on?

4.  How long exactly will it take to pay off our national debt?

5.  Where exactly will the government cut spending to eliminate or at least reduce the national debt drastically?

Again, these are legitimate questions that deserve honest answers.  If Americans must cinch in their purse strings and make cuts, so should the government.  If Americans have to hold off on getting boots for Junior, glasses for Grandma, and braces for Sunshine, then so too should the government hold off on pay raises, million dollar vacations, and thousand dollar plates of food at black-tie gala events.  If the banks demand answers before handing out loans, so too should the government created by We the People for We the People answer to We the People about how it plans to spend our money.

We the People are sick of the political ploys exercised by the pathetic lot running Washington.  We the People ask, nay, We the People demand answers to these questions and expect straight answers.  We the People say “enough” with vague assurances and political battles over makeshift problems.  We the People say “enough” with the drama over meaningless and mundane topics.  We the People say “enough” with lies and cover-ups.  We the People say “enough” with pussyfooting around real issues.  We the People say “enough” with destroying our Republic.

In the 2012 election, Obama’s campaign placed a great deal of blame on Mitt Romney for not providing a clear plan to help America.  Even when Romney specifically stated his plan, Obama complained that Romney’s plan was vague at best.  So, I ask Obama now: what Sir is your plan to help the country?  So far, Obama’s plan remains more unclear than Romney’s plan to eradicate the national debt.  Perhaps, Obama could begin with answering the five simple questions listed above; and maybe, just maybe, we might be able to move “forward” – unless of course solving the national debt problem was never the plan to begin with.

Propaganda And The Face Of New America

propaganda cnn Propaganda and the Face of New America

“Propaganda, Propaganda, Propaganda.  All that Matters is Propaganda”-Adolf Hitler

Surrounded by four children, presumably representing all youth in America, Obama recently gave a riveting speech on gun control.  His announcement came in response to the Newtown shooting, or at least so he claims.  According to Obama, the youngsters on stage wanted speedy resolutions and had written heartfelt letters to him suggesting their fears and concerns about gun violence.  Interestingly, Obama neglected to mention what opinion any of them held about the United States Constitution, or the Second Amendment to be more precise.  Lest we miss the bigger picture, the article is not about the four youngsters or their misguided parents who should have never subjected their children to such outright propaganda.  Instead, the focus of this article is upon the shameless use of children, again, by Obama to promote his gun control agenda.

Indeed, there exists a gun control agenda; and unless Congress steps in, it will continue to rear its ugly head at every opportunity.  It is clear that Obama’s latest gimmick intends to set a precedent that will undoubtedly bring down the Second Amendment and ultimately our Constitution if left unchecked.  His shameless anti-American ideology knows no bounds.  Consider for example that following the tragic deaths of the innocent children in the Newtown shooting, Obama unashamedly lashed out against law-abiding Americans.  He has now followed it up by using these four children to move “forward” yet again in “hope” of bringing “change” to the way our society functions.  How else can he explain the basis of his 23 executive orders on gun controls?

Most of the suggested reforms from his 23 executive orders were illogical enough to confuse Albert Einstein and offer no real resolutions to avoid another tragedy like the one experienced by the Newtown community.  For example, what did Obama mean by offering more “resource officers” to schools?  Did he mean more teachers or more guidance counselors?  Precisely how would these “resource officers” help schoolchildren in the event another unfortunate episode occurs?  Nay, he was unspecific about these resource officers just as he is unspecific about any of his other plans.  He then emphasized the number of people who died “at the end of a gun”; but his statistics likely did not include those lives protected by guns.

Next, Obama claimed that someone with mental illness is “more likely to be the victim” in such tragedies but conveniently forgot to mention that the man guilty of the Newtown shooting was mentally disturbed.  Obama then demanded that Congress fund research to study how violent video games affect young minds.  Interestingly, he skipped adding violent Hollywood flicks or TV shows to his “research” list.  Why should he?  After all, doing so would mean lining up most of his supporters.

Of course, the most preposterous of all his reforms was the one that calls for universal background checks.  Yes, one can see all the criminals arriving in droves to fill up paperwork for background checks post haste.  It is obvious to those of us paying attention that Obama’s ridiculous call for action on gun control targets law-abiding Americans more and criminals less.  In his speech, Obama claimed outrageously that “we don’t benefit from ignorance.”  Yet, if we continue to allow him to encroach upon our liberties, are we not ignorant?  Is he not then benefiting from our ignorance?

Consider another tyrant who did the same thing in the early twentieth century.  Yes, this man too devised a grand scheme that included brainwashing the youth.  He controlled the nation by controlling the youth.  He effectively presented only one side of the argument-his side-and promised to reform the nation’s problems.  Most of us know the history of Hitler’s Nazi Germany and the outcome it produced.  Suffice it to say that Hitler’s tyranny left many men, women, and children dead, dying, or destitute.  Our children are not wearing brown shirts with swastikas and black shorts like the German children.  No one is forcing them to become storm troopers at the age of eighteen.  Nay, no one is brainwashing them with anti-American ideology either; or are they?

The Significance Of The United States Constitution: Then And Now

constitution 2 SC The Significance of the United States Constitution: Then and Now

Degrading the United States Constitution seems to be the latest fad in our country.  Most recently, in a debate with author Ben Shapiro, British journalist Piers Morgan attacked the Constitution and called it a “little book.”  Morgan lives and works in the United States but is clearly unaware that the United States Constitution is not a “little book” but the supreme law of the land.  Morgan is not alone in his berating of the Constitution; the current administration continuously tries to bend the law to its will at every opportunity.  The latest attack against the Second Amendment is hardly a response to a new situation but an outcome of years of planning to eradicate the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans.  Ironically, those attacking the Second Amendment unhesitatingly hide behind the First Amendment to cover their disparaging remarks about the same Constitution they despise.  For people such as Morgan, clearly unfamiliar with United States history, a short lesson on the Constitution is in order.

On May 14, 1787, the Federal Convention met at the Independence Hall in Philadelphia.  The plan was to correct errors in the loosely tied Articles of the Confederation.  By June, it was evident that the Articles of Confederation was incapable of supporting the form of government required by the new Republic.  Hence, the delegates worked methodically to create an entirely new type of document that represented the co-operation of all.

Lest someone feel the process involved in writing the Constitution and ratification was an easy one, a few points are worth noting.  To begin with, the delegates to the Convention arrived in Philadelphia under the steady onslaught of daily rain.  Unfortunately, far from cooling the city, the rain simply added in making it more humid and unbearable.  It may seem a minor problem to us today because of the advent of air-conditioning but for delegates of the Constitutional Convention, the heat, humidity, and flies alone created a nettlesome atmosphere often leading to escalated tensions in the meetings.

Despite the heat, 55 of the appointed 74 delegates arrived in Philadelphia.  Many of them remained in the city, the others traveled back and forth from their respective states to attend the sessions.  Yes, it required more than one session because they did not automatically agree on all terms of the Constitution.  Indeed, it took four long months to convince enough of the delegates to sign the Constitution.  The opposition was heavy from the beginning.  Alexander Hamilton, for example, arrived from the dissenting state of New York straddled with two other delegates, both anti-federalists.  Many of them favored one possibility over another and it would take several gruesome hours daily to convince all to agree upon one resolution.  For instance, James Madison and George Washington favored the Virginia Plan that called for a bicameral legislative branch, an executive branch led by a single person, and a judicial branch headed by a supreme court.  Others such as Benjamin Franklin, John Lansing and William Paterson backed the New Jersey Plan that suggested a unicameral legislative branch, and an executive council.  After giving an uninterrupted six-hour long speech on an alternative plan, Hamilton retired to New York, leaving the delegates behind with a milder opinion of the Virginia Plan.

Even after Hamilton’s grandiose speech, far from reaching common ground immediately, the delegates fought over the specifics and only came to an agreement on September 17, 1787 to sign the new Constitution.  The signatures secured a new Constitution at the convention but it still needed ratification to become law.  Anti-federalists such as Patrick Henry and George Clinton worked diligently to undermine the ratification process.  In response, Hamilton, Madison, and John Jay fired away in support of ratification of the Constitution in a series of essays and articles noted for the magnitude of their literary and political beauty.  The Federalist Papers have long become a masterpiece in political discourse and should be on the bookshelf of every American citizen.  The final ratified Constitution included a Bill of Rights that carefully laid out the rights of individuals without which we may never have had the final product we see today.

The Constitution stands as the lifeblood of our great nation.  To undermine its authority is to undermine the intelligence, wisdom, hard work, dedication, and sacrifices of the Founders who worked against all odds to create a law to safeguard the natural rights of people.  Therefore, We the People must respect the Constitution for through its provisions our rights remain protected against those who tread upon us.  It is our duty as Americans and patriots to honor the supreme law of our land and to correct those who ridicule it or try to minimize its relevance.  It is true that we no longer live in the eighteenth century, but our Founding Fathers had the foresight to devise the Constitution to last beyond their time; and for over 200 years, it has done so remarkably well.

Our Bill Of Rights And The New Witch Hunt

bill of rights 4827 Our Bill of Rights And the New Witch Hunt

On a cold night of March 1692, all was quiet except the chilling moans escaping from a house belonging to the village minister, Samuel Parris, of Salem Village in Massachusetts.  In a back room of the house, a nine-year-old girl clutched her throat and began spinning around as if in a trance.  Elizabeth Parris then flung her frail body on the hard wood floor in a fit of passion.  Another young girl, Elizabeth’s eleven-year-old cousin Abigail Williams, followed suit; and soon, both girls were screaming hysterically.  They fought and clawed the air as if fighting against a supernatural beast.  The floorboards beneath their small bodies creaked, and the noise echoed throughout the small house.  Elizabeth’s father called for the village physician immediately.  After much deliberation, the doctor pronounced that the girls were suffering from “bewitchment.”  Soon, the two girls accused other villagers of witchcraft; and for the next several months, the small New England community was in an uproar.

From June through September of 1692, the Salem Witch Trials condemned hundreds of people as witches.  The accused were men, women, and children and included people from surrounding neighborhoods.  Once the fervor against the “witches” began, there was no end to the accusations.  People from all levels of society were accused and tried as witches, including the Governor’s wife.  At least nineteen condemned men and women died from hanging.  Other witches either died in jail or lived the duration of their lives as social outcasts-always afraid of the authorities.

No one explanation provides the answer to why the Salem Witch Trials reached such a great height.  Indeed, the Salem Witch Trials remain curious even today because of the magnitude of people who were accused, convicted, and executed for it.  Historians have stated economic, social, and frontier troubles with Native Americans and petty jealousies as a few of the reasons why so many accusations arose.  Whatever the cause(s), one thing is certain: many innocent people lost their lives because of the hysterics prompted at the behest of a few.

As with those hunting for witches in 1692, today, the liberals are also looking for “witches.”  The unfortunate and inhumane killing of innocent children in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012 has renewed the liberals’ taste for vengeance.  Unfortunately, criminals are not the focus of their wrath, but it is the Bill of Rights.  Liberals feel that the law needs to be “reformed.”  Indeed, they would like to do away with the Bill of Rights completely if at all possible.  They are not interested in finding true solutions that work to keep such tragedies from recurring; instead, their ultimate goal is the destruction of our liberties as American citizens.  To achieve this goal, they have shamelessly used the tragedy of the Newtown shooting to promote their own political agenda:  banishing the Second Amendment altogether.  Their argument is that by banning guns, there will never be another tragedy in America.

Indeed, their argument would serve well if only it made any sense.  In most states, law-abiding citizens who own guns must first pass a thorough background investigation and fingerprinting/ identification process before they can acquire any weapons.  Some states require firearms safety training before they issue permits.  Suffice it to say, those people who own guns legally must meet state standards (which differ widely by individual states) to own guns.  For someone to go through the stringent process of becoming a gun owner only for the sake of going on a shooting spree seems illogical to say the least.  Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule; but most law-abiding citizens are aware of the risk they take if they use their guns to hurt innocent people.

Typically, people who own guns legally do so for protection, recreation, or mere nostalgia.  If anything, many of these law-abiding citizens have used their weapons to defend themselves and even protect others.  A 2012 study performed by Clayton E. Cramer and David Burnett for the Cato Institute in Washington D.C. shows several true examples of law-abiding citizens who used their guns for self-defense purposes.

The “right to bear arms” is a fundamental right given to every American citizen.  George Washington once said:  “The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”  Yet, liberals have long forsaken Washington and are now working diligently to eradicate the Bill of Rights, too.  Criminals will continue to find ways to get guns as they do even now with the current laws in place.  If anything, by banning guns, the government will only further assist criminals in attacking innocent people who will have no way to protect themselves from the criminals’  dastardly deeds.  Consider what a difference it would have made on September 11, 2001 if any American citizen on Flights American 11, United 175, American 77, and United 93 had carried legally-obtained guns.  What liberals don’t seem to understand is that those who want to commit a crime by definition are not law-abiding individuals to begin with.  As such, to expect such people to honor “reformed” laws that ban guns altogether is foolhardy.  The only thing these “reforms” will bring about is the further destruction of American society.

As with the Salem Witch Trials and September 11, 2001, the Newtown shooting has become an infamous part of American history.  All of us will remember it forever.  It is a disgrace for the liberals to suggest that only they feel the pain for the loss of those innocent lives.  It is equally shameful for them to use the tragedy of the Newtown shooting as a way to punish law-abiding American citizens by eradicating our constitutional rights.  Laws need to be “reformed”, but not to hurt those who abide by them.  September 11, 2001 united all Americans regardless of their personal beliefs; should not the Newtown tragedy do the same?

Feminist Agenda Versus The True Fight For Women’s Rights

War on Women SC Feminist Agenda Versus the True Fight for Women’s Rights

On a cold winter night, a public bus sped through the dark streets of New Delhi, India.  Curiously, the bus passed through several checkpoints without stopping at any of them including those guarded by the police.  Unknown to the outsiders, a grave crime was taking place on the bus.  Six men used iron bars to attack and furiously beat a young man senseless.  The same six men then proceeded to beat the man’s 23-year-old female friend and gang raped her mercilessly.

Far from being a tale of fiction, the events actually took place on the night of Sunday, December 16, 2012.  After ruthlessly beating the young couple and raping the young woman, the perpetrators threw their naked, half-dead bodies on the cold streets of New Delhi.  The woman suffered multiple injuries that required several surgeries and she now remains in critical condition fighting for her life.

The crime led to a backlash from the public and protestors swarmed the streets to demand justice for the young woman.  In response, the police used tear gas, batons, and water cannons in an effort to disperse the crowd away from the government buildings, injuring several people in the process.  Women were a good majority of those injured during the protest but police continued the onslaught in hopes of controlling the protest.  Only after days of protest, the government of India finally decided to become involved in the case.

The young woman needs prayers and support to make it through the horrific trauma she must be suffering now, but her trials are only just beginning.  If she recovers, she must consider what awaits her in the wake of this tragedy.

In India, family and friends could easily ostracize a rape victim.  The odds of her getting any justice are remote.  Consider, for example, there are approximately 40,000 rape cases in India that remain unresolved as of today.  Women in India remain at the mercy of laws that hardly give them any protection.  For example, the current laws have no provisions to protect women from sexual harassment at work.  Even today, India’s Marriage Act does not make provisions for women to have equal property rights.  Whether the government of India actually carries out its promises of dishing out justice in favor of the victim of the New Delhi rape case is something only time will show, but the incident gives one pause to reflect on the plight of women in America.

The contrast between the circumstances of women in India and America are incredible.  To be sure, tragedies occur in the United States as well but the portrayal of women’s issues in America needs reconsideration.  Modern feminists who screamed about the “War on Women” during the 2012 national election have much to learn about women’s rights.  The liberators who threw such tantrums against the “inhumanity” of unavailable free birth control from the government must consider how fortunate they are to live in a nation that allows them the freedom to voice their opinions.  Imagine what would become of them if they lived in a country that afforded them no protection against brutal attacks as the one experienced by the woman in New Delhi.

What makes the situation worse for a rape victim in India compared to one in America is the disinterest expressed by the Indian government to have laws in place which help women in their everyday struggles.  In comparison, the laws of the United States actively protect women’s rights and provide them with opportunities to advance in life.  In the United States, even the poorest girl has the opportunity to attend college, start a business, become a politician, practice law or medicine, and join the military.  In short, women in America have a chance to make a difference in the world.  The poor women in India are fortunate if they can find their next meal.

Yet, in their quest to fight for women’s rights, feminists in America have destroyed the essence of what it means to be a woman.  Today, feminists hold dedicated wives and mothers in contempt but young women demanding free birth control earn a top spot on the cover of Time magazine.  In their rush to gain “equality” for women, these feminists have destroyed the American family.  For those claiming to preach that women such as Abigail Adams, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Sojourner Truth were all feminists, rest assured they were dedicated wives and mothers before they became activists.  Even as activists, they did not pursue their own ambitions at the expense of their families.

The best lesson for Americans must include improving things in America for everyone.  Yes, this includes men, women, and children.  Emasculating men and alienating children in hopes of gaining greater “freedom” for women only hurts everyone involved.  By ignoring the family, feminists have done a disservice to women and actually devalued the role of women in America.  The only thing they have accomplished is to shift their attention from the family to the government.  Unfortunately, forfeiting their liberties to the government has helped make America a nation where the rights of people become secondary to the might of the government.  For what else is government dependence if not servitude?  Is this then the “freedom” these feminists seek?  What freedom is there when the government controls all things, even as it claims to provide for women’s rights?

The feminists in America should be aware that by infringing upon the rights of all people, they have helped create an atmosphere where no one’s rights remain intact, least of all those of women.  The unfortunate tragedy of the young woman in New Delhi should alert every woman in America that the true fight for women’s rights lays further away from our shores.  Perhaps, if we can remove the attention from our makeshift “women’s issues” in America for a moment, we just might be able to help those women who truly need the support.

Are Conservative Values Dead?

Ken Wahl SC Are Conservative Values Dead?

Anyone who has lived through the 1980s as a young adult would know actor Ken Wahl.  Wahl enjoyed a successful career in Hollywood films such as The Wanderers, Fort Apache, and The Soldier.  He achieved the pinnacle of his career on the hit television series Wiseguy.  His dashing good looks and mesmerizing voice captivated women and broke many hearts when the show finally ended in the 1990s.  Wahl is undeniably a versatile actor; however, this article is less about his enigmatic onstage presence but more about the warmth and humility he exhibits as an American in his daily life.  Although Wahl is private about his personal life, he recently gave an interview where he discussed, among other things, his political views and the future of the Republican Party.  (You can watch the interview in its entirety here).

Despite his fame and success, Wahl lived as a conservative in the hotbed of liberal society.  He recalls that as early as age 8, he understood the importance of keeping with conservative values.  People often argue that children are disinterested in politics.  Indeed, there is some truth to that argument as many children are too busy with their own personal interests to care about policies and the state of the nation.  Peer pressure, entertainment, and especially the advent of social media have all compounded the problem over the last few decades.  In public schools, the insignificance of subjects such as history and civics today has made things even worse for children who know more about the latest trend than the Pledge of Allegiance.  Yet, Wahl’s point proves that young children are sensitive to learning and retaining conservative values.

Children receive their first instruction about life at home.  Parents are their first teachers and are responsible for passing conservative (or liberal) values to them.  Some children cherish conservative values, grow up with them, and pass it on to their children, thus repeating the cycle.  Others grow up with a liberal worldview or learn conservative values but fall through the gaps in their teenage years.  For those who claim that children of divorced parents will undoubtedly become liberals, Wahl stands as a prime example of this untruth.  His parents divorced when he was young, but he still held fast to his conservative roots.

When discussing the outcome of the 2012 national election, Wahl wisely (no pun intended) points to the current electorate and calls it a “generational vote.”  Indeed, Wahl’s point is sound because young people carried a higher rate of votes for Obama than Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.  Obama’s “War on Women” rhetoric scored big with young women.  Wahl feels that the main issue with women was their rights over reproduction.  Considering that a majority of the young women voted for Obama, there is an element of truth in Wahl’s argument.  Yet, to think that all women supported Obama is a grave mistake.  Well informed, conservative women throughout the nation denounced Obama’s so-called war against women.

Another interesting point Wahl makes, one that the GOP should seriously consider, is that Obama won because he remains popular with the younger generation.  As absurd as it may seem, the presidential election has become more or less a popularity contest.  Wahl points out that the younger generation is unfamiliar with the concept of ideology; they are more interested in whether the candidate is “cool.”  Again, his analysis is accurate if we consider that the last few Democratic presidents, including Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, remain the “coolest” presidents in recent history, especially when compared to George W. Bush.  Bush was unable to represent the same smooth, cool style for the younger generation, and they essentially considered him (and still do) a country bumpkin.  Wahl feels that the worst thing the GOP could do is to ape Clinton or Obama’s tactics in hopes of finding favor with the younger generation.  In other words, trying too hard to be “cool” could actually make things worse for the GOP.  He gives examples of moments when parents have tried to “fit-in” with their children’s idea of “cool” and failed miserably.  We can all probably relate to that at some level, which makes Wahl’s warning to the GOP even more potent.

So, what is Wahl’s ultimate outlook on the current GOP situation?  To be honest, it is actually quite grave.  Wahl, as many of us, believes that the GOP needs to re-structure their agenda without compromising on their conservative values.  For the GOP to understand how to do this, they would benefit greatly from watching Wahl’s interview.  In the interim, I have a few suggestions to add.  Firstly, stand fast on conservative values.  Next, stop selling our precious liberties to the highest bidder.

Lest anyone feel dejected by now, I shall like to point out a few things Wahl noted in his interview that are noteworthy.  He mentioned that conservatives still have a chance because of the House of Representatives and the few Republican Governors who won in the 2012 election.  Again, Wahl’s observations are astute; and to them, I shall add a few of my personal thoughts here.  We should also remember that Obama won his second term by a mere 3% victory over Romney, not a landslide.  Indeed, this is encouraging news and tells me that conservative values are alive and, with a strong leader, can find roots in America again.  Let us also consider that for every Franklin Delano Roosevelt, there was a Ronald Reagan.  How long it takes us to find a strong, conservative and capable leader depends entirely upon how hard we are willing to work to find such a person.  In the end, to ensure our liberties remain intact, we must begin by raising our children to become conservative adults so they can carry the torch of conservatism well into the future.
