The Salvation Army has long been a holy-day season fixture in front of my local supermarket, providing some Christmas sounds and cheer as it raises money to serve the poor. But when I went grocery shopping a couple of days ago, a difference was apparent: there was an SA volunteer and collection pot on the premises, but no trademark bell-ringing. So I asked the man why — even though I already knew the answer.
You might have read the recent news stories concerning complaints about the SA bells. And, sure enough, the volunteer at my supermarket confirmed that these grinches’ griping was the reason they’d been silenced. So now another element of the Christmas season is no more, at least in my area.
Of course, some may say that any continual noise can be irritating. But this raises questions: why didn’t people seem to find the SA bells as annoying 25 years ago? Is it any coincidence that increasing irritation with them seems to hew closely with the growth of our society’s secularist-grinch constituency?
It goes without saying that some people must have found the bells annoying decades ago as well. Most everything irks someone and everyone is irked by something (with me, it’s the grating, purposeless noise emanating from liberals’ mouths). Yet we tend to often tolerate things that annoy us, realizing that dealing with such comes with the territory of living among other beings. And tolerance is the relevant factor here because, clearly, it is only growing intolerance that could explain complaints intense enough to instigate the change in question.
Before proceeding, I’ll point out that “tolerance” is almost universally misunderstood today. While we often conflate it with affection or sympathy, the word actually implies the abiding of a perceived negative. We wouldn’t tolerate a fine car, delectable meal, or a beautiful work of art; we relish those things. But we would have to tolerate bad weather, a cold, or a Nancy Pelosi speech. Could you imagine someone asking not about pain, but “How much pleasure can you tolerate?”?

Yep, the supermarkets do not need my purchasing power. Safeway in our area does allow the Salvation Army and I am pleased with that. I and others are sick and tired of being treated as a minority by the minority! If they don’t wish to donate and help others, that is their choice, but don’t block mine! You are wrong; we are right so lump it.
We have lost everything Christmas stands for. It`s about God, Christ and being thankful for life. Where did we ever get the idea that we have to give anyone anything. And go into debt to do it. Stampeding to the store to waste your money. What a bunch of morons to give presents to someone that doesn`t need or most likely don`t like or want and get presents you don`t need,like or want. Give your money to the Salvation Army so someone else can have a warm coat of something to eat..
Today the Salvation bells were ringing in front of Walmart in my neck of the woods. Of course I donated a couple of dollars and got a frozen with cold smile from a young lady who was attending the kettle.. I am curious to know whether these swines and any of their family members have ever had to resort to receiving help from the Salvation Army… may these people rot in hell. enough said.
The greatest deceptions are cloaked in good will. Well there I go talking about religion again.
Amazing how the religious banter tolerance feeling they are persecuted at every turn by the secular unfaithful. Religion demands total tolerance and understanding but gives absolutely none in return. Delusion in mass is the main faith, belief and power of the sanctimonious religious. Religion has and still is killing in the millions, this in the name of tolerance? It is inconceivable that people would expect for rational grown up educated men to believe that mythological fairy tales are factual. But the religious don’t only demand that you believe in the stories but that if you don’t they wish harm and eternal damnation on you. This is thousands of years old propaganda. Religious need to get over themselves and realize they have been had. Get over it and learn to understand that the threats no longer work in America and other educated countries. The radical religious need to get back over to the Islamic countries where their religious brothers still use unspeakable tortures, impalements, burning, bombs, crucifixion and an all-out war to increase the religious church numbers. You know, all we are asking is WHY do so few feel the need to bully (and that’s what this is) belivers? Atheists (and the like-minded) demand that belivers bend over backwards to accomodate their wants and wishes, but heaven forfend THEY should return the favor. And then, when belivers finally get fed up with being kicked repeatedly (like now), all we get is a rant about religion. No meeting in the middle, no let’s sit down and talk about it, no how about a compromise. Back to the article. I could understand the annoyance factor if this were happening all year long. It’s only one month. And in the approximatel 15 seconds it takes me to get into the store, and the 15 seconds to get out of the store, I have enough self-control to be able to tolerate the sound.

I’m going to buy a couple bells. Put one on my truck and one on my belt. Actually I think I will buy three and that way if anyone complains I will take and shove the third bell , handle first, up there ass.
One will add three more, one for their foul mouth, and two to forever close their ears so they will not hear again. Of course they will whine about this get free benefits and laugh all the way to the bank. Perhaps a “Glass-ectomyw” is in order here. Implant a piece of glass in their stomachs. so those with their head up their ass’s can see. Also creates justification for why they spew foulness from the brain.

Liberals preach tolerance, but detest it. They preach love and brotherhood, but practice hate and divisiveness. The say one thing that means the complete opposite. The author has a point. Why has this been okay for 25 years and now not? Liberals are in power, can do whatever they want, and scream bloody murder if you disagree with them. Most business avoid confrontation, so the minority often wins. In this case it is a minority terrified about anything the majority may like. This is as much a war of ideology as it is a war or the soul of a nation. So far the left is winning because the right are to cowardly to fight.
I do not understand how the left can keep saying the Conservatives are wishy washy. We stick by our Christian beliefs, while they keep changing theirs to please all the minorities that vote for them. Obama wants to SPREAD THE WEALTH, cause it is a Christian thing to do, yet he allows late term abortions, gay marriage, and supports the very people who are against all Christian beliefs. He was against immigration until he could use it for his advantage. If the African American community votes for him because they think he will help them, then they need to educate themselves. He has done NOTHING for them. Read the executive orders he has passed. They mostly benefit UNAMERICANS AND OUR ENEMIES, AS WELL AS find a way to bankrupt our country!!!
