Did you vote for Barack Obama in 2008? A lot of people did – obviously.
What a time. There’s still room for improvement, but what a testimony to just how far we as a nation have come in terms of racial harmony, tolerance, and diversity.
Only decades earlier, a man like Barack Obama – a black man – couldn’t even drink from the same water fountain as a white man, let alone become president of the United States. A hundred years prior to that, and he may well have been counted another man’s property.
On Nov. 4, 2008, millions gathered at the ballot box to prove, once and for all, that, in large measure, we as a nation have healed from our disgraceful, self-inflicted wounds of racial abuse, bias, and division.
That we could elect an African-American to lead the free world is indeed a very good thing.
We just happened to elect the wrong African-American.
In life, we sometimes find that the idea of a thing is far better than the thing itself. As a boy, I once ordered, from a comic book, a pair of X-ray glasses that promised to allow me to see the bones beneath my hand (my motives were a bit more ignoble). The two weeks it took for the glasses to arrive seemed like an eternity.
Once they did arrive, I ripped into the package and put them on, darting my head to-and-fro. It’s difficult to express my level of disappointment. As I quickly discovered, the glasses merely formed a halo effect around objects, creating the illusion of transparency. I felt embarrassed. I got took.
Barack Obama’s presidency has been a halo effect. Like I did so many years ago, in 2008, America fell victim to false advertising. As the past four years have demonstrated beyond any serious debate, the idea of President Obama was far better than the reality of President Obama. We were promised the world. We were promised transparency; but we were sold an illusion. We got took.
Indeed, during the 2008 campaign, a then-Sen. Barack Obama promised us that, if elected, we would look back upon the moment he took office and “tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth.”
That was the idea of President Obama. That was what many good, well-meaning people voted for. That was the hope offered and the change promised.
That was not what we got.
Though it’s certainly not a comprehensive analysis, during the second presidential debate, Mitt Romney, in response to Mr. Obama’s attempts to gloss over his mounting leadership failures, summarized a few of the big ones. While addressing an audience member who, perhaps like you, voted for Obama in 2008, Romney observed, in part, the following:
“I think you know better. I think you know that these last four years haven’t been so good as the president just described and that you don’t feel like you’re confident that the next four years are going to be much better either. …
“He said that, by now, we’d have unemployment at 5.4 percent. The difference between where it is and 5.4 percent is 9 million Americans without work. …
“He said he would have, by now, put forward a plan to reform Medicare and Social Security because he pointed out they’re on the road to bankruptcy. He would reform them. He’d get that done. He hasn’t even made a proposal on either one.
“He said in his first year he’d put out an immigration plan that would deal with our immigration challenges. Didn’t even file it.
“This is a president who has not been able to do what he said he’d do. He said that he’d cut in half the deficit. He hasn’t done that either. In fact, he doubled it.
“He said that by now, middle-income families would have a reduction in their health insurance premiums by $2,500 a year. It’s gone up by $2,500 a year. And if Obamacare is … implemented fully, it’ll be another $2,500. …
“The middle class is getting crushed under the policies of a president who has not understood what it takes to get the economy working again. … [T]he number of people who are still looking for work is still 23 million Americans.
“There are more people in poverty, one out of six people in poverty.
“How about food stamps? When he took office, 32 million people were on food stamps. Today, 47 million people are on food stamps. How about the growth of the economy? It’s growing more slowly this year than last year – and more slowly last year than the year before. …”
The president has tried, but his policies haven’t worked.
Recently, my wife and I attended an outdoor festival in central Virginia. Although the event was not political, there were people from both the Obama and Romney camps handing out campaign stickers and other items. I suspect that if a poll were taken, liberals outnumbered conservatives by about two-to-one.
That’s why I was so taken aback. Although we saw dozens of people wearing Romney stickers, we only saw one man wearing an Obama sticker.
We walked up to a fellow with a gray pony tail, John Lennon glasses, and Birkenstocks. He was wearing a Romney sticker.
“Mind if I ask why you’re voting for Mitt Romney?” I asked. “I assume you are.”
His reply – and these were his words, not mine – was short and to the point: “Because I refuse to be that stupid twice.”
Changing one’s mind doesn’t always reveal a tendency toward indecision. Sometimes, changing one’s mind reveals a tendency toward wisdom.

wAKE UP PEOPLE. DAMN, YOU’RE SO STUPID
Do you think that Obama voters are reading Western Journalism?
I’d be happy to find that more than trolls read these informative columns.
I will be voting for Obama this year, as i did in 2008.
Here’s why:
1. Obama is the first president in U.S. history to acknowledge the right of gay couples to marry and enjoy the full benefits of marriage in the eyes of the law.
2. President Obama faced down the GOP and the health industry to finally reform American healthcare. My healthcare is better and cheaper.
3. Obama has fully funded the Violence Against Women Act.
4. Obama is the first President in a generation to make a car go farther on a gallon of gas.
5. Two brilliant Supreme Court appointments, and more on the way.
6. Obama cares about women’s health and he proved it again and again.
7. Obama has made financing higher education easier.
8. President Obama promotes an openness that his opponent hopes to quash.
9. Republicans seek to have America run by and for a permanent aristocracy. Let’s not forget that liberals founded this country–the conservatives supported the king!
10. Obama demonstrated prudent and effective leadership in helping bring about the fall of Muammar Gadhafi.
11. Obama has supported and cultivated the rights of Americans with disabilities.
12. President Obama supports women’s right to choose.
13. Romney wants to nullify the Environmental Protection Agency’s power to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.
14. Because corporations are not people. People are better.
15. Barack Obama supports equal pay for equal work.
16. Because the Republican Party is pre-Galilean.
17. President Obama supports the DREAM act.
18. Obama repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
19. Mitt Romney plans to remove regulations on air and water quality and cut off funding for the National Labor Relations Board.
20. Romney is hiding millions in tax havens around the world.
21. Obama signed legislation to protect consumers from the predatory lending practices of credit card companies.
22. Obama is on the right side of land use and transportation policy.
23. If Mitt Romney is elected, insurance companies will continue to discriminate against Americans with pre-existing conditions.
24. Barack Obama understands the threat of climate change.
25. Obama increased funding for National Parks by ten percent.
26. It is absolutely the role of government to invest in education and jobs.
27. President Obama ended stop-loss
28. I support Obama because, despite enormous pressure, he refused to publicize a picture of Bin Laden’s corpse.
29. Barack Obama supports Planned Parenthood while Mitt Romney would destroy it.
30. Because Obama opposes the Supreme Court’s Citizens United Decision.
31. Obama signed the Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act, a bipartisan bill that brings greater accountability to American defense spending.
32. President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
I could go on, as this is just a small fraction of what makes Obama awesome.
Four more years, mofos!
Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHo let mighty sword loose?
Ugh is right.. he’s back. The village idiot has returned!
1. A terrible weakening economy; and the president is clueless on how to fix it.
2. No change in unemployment numbers in 4 years, though the way they have been figured under-reports the true numbers.
3. Soaring gas prices. The president has not made cars go farther on a gallon of gas, he has ordered others to do that. The tin foil midget cars that this fiat will produce will be a nightmare in death and injury on our highways.
4. Trillion dollar plus deficits for 4 years in a row that our children and grandchildren will never pay off with another 5 or 6 trillion projected for the next 4 years if Obama is president.
5. The deceitfully and falsely named “Affordable” Care Act (Obamacare), passed through gimmickry, and lying promises with absolutely no bipartisanship against the will of the people, unread by those who passed it, fraught with new taxes and implemented by 16,000 new IRS agents is a good thing? Wait until all the unintended consequences start kicking in…
6. 716 billion dollars removed from Medicare.
7. Khadafi is gone, well and good, but our ambassador and 3 others are dead, the consulate has been burned down by those who hate us and are now free to pursue that hatred. Obama’s Middle East foreign policy is a joke and in shambles.
8. Kagan and Sotomayor brilliant? What have you been smoking?
9. The rogue and out of control freedom robbing and business destroying EPA has lost its stated mission to extremists radicals. There has been no recorded global warming in 16 years. Check the facts, moron, 31,000 scientists that signed the Oregon Petition can’t be wrong.
10. Corporations are run by people, staffed by people, and are people. Everything you own was produced by some kind of business/ corporation.
11. The only reason higher education is as outrageously expensive as it is is because the government has subsidized it, subverting true market forces and making many a professor and administrator filthy rich.
12. So you think Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, etc, the “liberals” as you call them, would favor homosexual “marriage”, abortions and the open serving of “gays” in the military? Then why didn’t they write all of that stuff into the Constitution?
13. So Reid, Pelosi, the Kennedy’s, Kerry, Durbin, Conyers, Schumer, the Clintons, etc. aren’t a part of a ruling aristocracy? I’m almost with you here. Time for term limits on Senators and Congresspeople.
14. The rest of your points are mostly delusional and the irrational regurgitation of things some stoners probably wrote down to justify their own decadence. Pure stupidity.
Yeah, we really need 4 more years of the “awesome” Obama.
very well said.
keep up the truth
ConservaDave, we may not agree on much, but since you were the only person who appears to have put some thought into your response, and because you write in complete sentences, I’d like to continue the conversation.
No, we’re not going to agree on the state of the economy or the value of the Affordable Care Act. And we hash out climate change on an appropriate thread elsewhere. Personally, my income has risen 50% in the past four years, but that has everything to do with my hard work, not any of Obama’s policies.
Your logic is flawed regarding people and corporations. Yes, corporations are run by people and staffed by people, but in no way does it follow that they are people. Through the Citizens Unitec ruling, corporations and mega-wealthy individuals now have the ability to purchase votes, but they can’t vote. They can’t, and don’t serve the country. They (mostly) don’t pay taxes. They exist largely to serve their masters on Wall St. And while everything you own may come from a corporation, I grow my own vegetables and fruit, shoot my own meat, make my own furniture and generate my own power. It makes me less of a corporate slave than most of the rest of you.
And yes, the liberals that founded our nation would fully support rights for all. They were willing to leave their country to found another, and fight wars to establish and maintain their independence. Theirs was the best kind of liberal libertarianism: they wouldn’t care what people did in their own bedrooms and certainly wouldn’t seek to demonize or legislate it. And they didn’t write a lot into the Constitution for good reason: they trusted us to maintain the liberal principles upon which the nation was founded.
I do agree that America’s ruling aristocracy extends to both sides of the political divide. And while term limits are superficially tempting, they would only give more power to the bureaucrats behind the scenes.
I’ve made my affirmative case for Obama. That we disagree, and that neither of us will end up in a government re-education camp is only part of what makes this the greatest country on earth.
I’ll leave you with three reasons not to vote for Romney, regardless of his opponent.
Romney would finish off the Republican destruction of the American middle class that began under Reagan. But Romney is doing a fine job building a middle class in China, as that’s where his policies will send the rest of the decent jobs in this country.
Romney will continue the largest redistribution of wealth in our nation’s history–from the poor and middle class to the already very wealthy. Bottom line: unless you are a member of the 1%, a vote for Romney is a vote against your own economic self interests.
Romney’s election would be a validation of the wretched behavior of congressional Republicans over the past four years. The current Republicans have abdicated there role in government and simply made all of their actions about obstruction and failure. Their philosophy: block everything possible with record filibuster use, and hope the American people are stupid enough to blame Obama in 2012. The collective ignorance of our populace places this scenario perilously close to happening.
And this is no small matter. The behavior of Republicans over the past four years marks a significant departure for the party. Reagan, the Republican’s saint, worked with a Democratic Congress. to a lesser degree, Newt Gingrich and his Republican Congress, worked with President Clinton. Over the past four years, congressional Republicans have done nothing to work with Obama, to the detriment of our nation.
how is Alice?
How is the weather in wonderland?
What color is the sky?
@ mightysword – So many statements, so many needs for truth.
#1 – an issue for the state not the federal government. (10th Amendment)
#2 – No compromise and the cost of ObamaCare will be $2.7 trillion dollars. You might have cheap health care, it must be because your union got a waiver.
#3 – The VAWA is not something that is ‘funded’ since it is a law and involves increased jail time for offenders convicted.
#4 – How did Prez-0 ‘make’ a car go further on a gallon of gas? Really? LMAO
#5 – “Bias’” & :”Activist” do not equal brilliance.
#6 – Making sure women have contraceptives does not equal caring about women’s health.
(BTW-you really need to support your list with some facts & not just misinformation of opinions)
#7 – all the money being used to finance higher education under Prez-0 is borrowed from China; so it added to the National Debt.
#8 – Openness??? WTF??? What planet are you on? His promise in 2008 of ‘the most transparent administration in US History” has been as transparent as a brick wall.
I could go on, but I have better things to do. Sorry to ruin the socialist utopian wet dream of a whacked-out liberal – maybe Bill Clinton has an extra blue dress you can use to clean up.
right on the money,we the people by me know about the ineligible treasonous traitor when he was a street hustler in chicago,he has never proven his eligiblilty,he is an ineligible treasonous traitor, you have seen satan/ovomit up close and personal, and his band of fallen angels, good bless romney/ryan,sheriff joe and cold case posse, one nation under god,you know who god is don,t you lucifer/ovomit well don,t you.yea thou i walk in the shadow of the valley of death,i will fear no evil/ovomit

every time i go on this idiot is on with a bunch of land of oz garbage———one question if all those things you praise him for why is our country is such a horrible shape financially looked at with little respect by our foes and friends——-you are either a government employee or demanted
stupid is as stupid does!!! Greece showed us how to make the bed Obama wants us to lie in, let’s all hope that if he does(and probably will) get reelected, the conservatives and tea party have a big enough presence and the balls to use it to keep pulling the sheets out from under his and your socialist views.
Hey M S, are you a Muslim queer?
Yeah, Mighty Sword, you just described how Obamination systematically destroyed the United States of America. Good job. He’s a one-man wrecking ball.
Too bad most of what you mentioned is a lie or,perverted…kind of the like the qu’ran it’s almost believable until you get to the end. You, and people like you are why I changed political parties.NOplatform,NOsuccesful policyf(foreign or domestic),NOmoney,NOjobs,NObama!!!!! NO more years! Give a real intellect with countless success’ in the private ,as well as, govt. sector an opportunity to show that HE CAN do what NObama promised to do 4yrs ago.
mighty sword, better saddle up your unicorn & ride down to the corner store for more kool-aid before you come out of your stupor……you can’t be serious! oh, please. provide the link on obama making a low-mileage car…… i didn’t realize he had a job or had ever worked….
You forgot one! You are voting for him because you too are an Atheist, immoral person with no conscience or moral values that loves self only. Obama’s only accomplishment is bringing all the cockroaches out of the woodwork!
Name one other President who’s name has been connected with as many questionable personal documents an activities…hidden original birth certificate, FORGED selective service draft registration, using a FRAUDULENT social security number issue to a deceased person from Connecticut, real state FRAUD transaction, house owned in tittle by others, claiming tax deduction on a house his name is not on, presenting on national television a FORGE BIRTH CERTIFICATE, hidden adoption records, hidden passport records, hidden school records, hidden contribution from foreign individuals(forbidden by law), numerous alias names, this is a person who’s name is time after time connected with FRAUD, have you ever have an issue with even one of these problems?. These are not small mistakes, they are all CRIMES OF FRAUD, but we have a “PRESIDENT”, THAT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH ALL OF THEM.
Zorro, congrats on your clear analysis.
Obama is trying to build a strong house over a foundation of shifting sands (falsities, hidden documents).
Your list, if broken down into catagories, becomes 3 reasons. Women, Gays, Money. Sadly, you are wrong on every one of them. How refreshing to hear from someone as proudly ignorant of how ANYTHING works as you are. Obama is a lying, corrupt, ignorant, Alinskiest! Period.
very good response
I did not vote for the president in the last election because I thought him too green for the job. However, there is no way I’d ever vote for an empty suit such as Willard Mitt Romney. Maybe if he actually held a consistent position on ANYTHING of importance other than more tax breaks for himself, I’d reconsider.
I watch politics as closely as most anyone I know and have come to this conclusion.: The Republican Party has acted shamelessly for the last few years. Not just in opposing Obama, but standing in opposition to just about anything, even their own ideas. They should not be rewarded for doing their best to keep the economy down for their political gain. I will be voting for the president as a result.
My god. Now “Fthecat”, two of the loony left escaped into our part of the world within short time of each other. They need new locks on the loony left lockups
Too bad they escaped only to make fools of themselves.
could it be that the voter suppression trolls are out in force today?
Your not watching very closely if you think he has waffled in opinions. But even so, I’d rather have someone who has proven ability to BE successful, on his own, can move with the vagaries of political and social climate, has a sound moral compass, and has demonstrated, albiet on a smaller scale, that he has the knowledge, skill, and willingness to do what he says. He has not, by the way, taken any salary for any public position he has ever held, and has said he won’t take a salary as President, His public service IS ON THE RECORD as being a success in every case. Vote as you wish, BUT VOTE! I only ask that you remember that a vote for any candidate without an actual chance of winning will aid Obama in his quest for re-election. A serious problem unless that is your desire. Whatever the outcome, to not vote makes you as responcible for the outcome as anyone.
This is an excellent article. Too bad that more liberals won’t even see it and those that do aren’t smart enough to see its correctness.
Well, he did keep that promise about the ocean levels not rising…..
Why didn’t people know about Obama or maybe is name is Barry Soetoro or maybe Harrison J Bounel (042-68-4425) as I did way before he even got close to Our White House.
How come nobody knew that Barry was a citizen of Indonesia along with his father and mother. His mother gave up her citizenship of the USA to make it easier Barry so she became a citizen of Indonesia.
The reason why everyone became a citizen of Indonesia because dad wanted Barry to go to school there and Indonesia was a war and by their law you had to be citizen in order to go to school there so in other words he is NOT a citizen of USA and never has been.
As far as we know he was born in Kenya and his birth certificate is a fraud and he hasn’t proven it any this information any differently.
How come nobody knew that this creature was a drug dealer and user in high school and did all of this in the middle of living room and if anyone crossed him that was the last time they did because they would disappear and nobody knew where they went.
I guess nobody saw the interviews with the two (2) girls that went to high school with him and said what was going on in high school because they went to high school with him . They were scared to death to think the would be president of anything much less the USA because of the way he was and to think he could be President of USA scared them to death. He is doing exactly what he did when he was in high school scaring people into respecting him. I heard all of this twice on ABC NEWS National before they were bought by Barry Soetoro.
How come nobody knows exactly why his along with his wife’t licence to practice law were both evoked almost shortly after they started practicing law but all of that has never come out because it was silenced by the Obamas. What they have to hide that is what everyone would like to know?
There is so much more I know that I can’t write here because I simply don’t have time.
MIRACLES DO HAPPEN, AMEN. MAYBE, THERE HAS BEEN A MIRACLE “CURE” FOR STUPIDITY IN THIS CASE. THANK YOU WHOEVER YOU ARE. WOULD BE NICE IF THERE COULD BE A “MASS” HEALING AND ALL OF THE STUPID, IDIOTIC DONKEYS/ASSES (STUPIDIEST ANIMALS ALIVE, DEMS LOGO) COULD BE CURED. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
MightySword,
funny I am voting against o for all the same reasons and then some –
like o’s ineligibilty; he is an unqualified failure and a fraud; and he is a
communist and no more than a puppet for the reds; just to name a few.
I wish the progressives would just move out of my country and go
invade, er move *forward* to some other country where they would be welcomed.
I bet the Castro’s would be glad to have you all, provided you are healthy and quickly
assimilate into their culture.
God Bless America!
I am surprised that even WJ calls barry soetero black. He is mulatto. By his own writing, his own self record whether true or not (still in question by sealed records) states white mother x black father.
Now, if the reasoning is that the father passes life blood to his offspring i agree, we can say he (barry soetero) is black. But that also confirms the status of British citizenship from the father (a Kenyan under British rule in 1961) never a US citizen and thus, the usurper is illegally occupying the Oval office because he is not a Natural born citizen according to Art.2 Sec.1 clause 5 of the Constitution.

obama isn’t only illegally occupying our White House; he also stole the 2008 election. He didn’t win honestly. Go to Judicial Watch or google Judicial Watch’s website to see the proof that he stole the 2008 election.
A RADICAL, TERRORIST, COMMUNIST, MUSLIM, CHICAGO, GHETTO THUG IN OUR WHITE HOUSE TRYING TO CHANGE AMERICAS CHARACTER? NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES, NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL SUFFER OR DIE………………………….AMERICANS WILL NOT LET THIS HAPPEN !
worth repeating for all u anti-americans
I will be voting for Obama this year, as i did in 2008.
Here’s why:
1. Obama is the first president in U.S. history to acknowledge the right of gay couples to marry and enjoy the full benefits of marriage in the eyes of the law.
2. President Obama faced down the GOP and the health industry to finally reform American healthcare. My healthcare is better and cheaper.

17. President Obama supports the DREAM act.
18. Obama repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

31. Obama signed the Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act, a bipartisan bill that brings greater accountability to American defense spending.
32. President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
Small minds use many words.
“Obama is the first President in a generation to make a car go farther on a gallon of gas.”
I guess that would be something to brag about in your feeble mind, forget that a gallon of gas more than doubled in cost!
“President Obama supports women’s right to choose.”
Correction: Right to murder their own helpless babies!
“Obama demonstrated prudent and effective leadership in helping bring about the fall of Muammar Gadhafi”
So how did that work out for the 4 men killed that would still be alive if Qadaffi were still alive?
“It is absolutely the role of government to invest in education and jobs.”
In your case, we should get a full refund of the school taxes we paid! My guess is that you paid nothing and obviously learned nothing of real value!
“Obama repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
If you don’t tell, I won’t ask!
“Barack Obama supports Planned Parenthood–.”
He has to! He’s their biggist recipient of campaign money awhile so many African Americans are aborted every year!
“Barack Obama understands the threat of climate change.”
He should! He is the largest contributer of polution every time he opens his mouth!
“President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.”
Someone should have signed that bill when Democrat Senator Byrd was a Grand Wizard KKK member lynching blacks! He was excused—by Democrats, of course!
Why you love affair with the nanny state?
I can make my own informed decisions.
From what you say you need someone to translate truth to your own form on nanny state truth.
Vote obama out!!
u folks are anti-american and u scare me
Top 12 Reasons to Vote for a Democrat:
When your family or friends cannot explain why they voted for a Democrat, give them this list.
1. I voted for a Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.
2. I voted for a Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
