I love America, the great congregation of freedom-lovers from every country on earth, a collection of adventurers, risk-takers, hardworking people who enter into a social contract to look after one another, voluntarily, without government coercion. I love Americans, the most generous, giving, loving people on the planet, people who are the first with disaster relief, the first to confront the bully, the first to send help when women and children are being abused, the first to settle wars and help former enemies rebuild. I love America and Americans, not because I was born here, but because of what America stands for: “Liberty and justice for all.” And that means we were willing to fight a terrible civil war to insure liberty and justice, for all. That means we keep working to polish and perfect this experiment in self-government, never allowing the haters and the critics to destroy the hope of freedom and prosperity for all who wish to come here for a better life. America is a shining city on a hill, which is why millions of people yearn to breathe free, risking all to get here. Anyone who says he hates America does not know America. Those of us who love America, do so for good reasons, and will never relent.
