After Florida Democrat Alan Grayson compared the Tea Party to the Ku Klux Clan in a recent campaign email, conservatives — and anyone who respects the truth — have spoken out against the congressman’s outrageous rhetoric.
Despite the fact the KKK was populated almost entirely by Democrats, Grayson’s ignorant statements reveal that he either has no idea what Tea Party members believe or is willing to blatantly lie about them in order to further his fundraising efforts. Furthermore, he purposely ignored the fact that a great number of principled black Americans are proud adherents to the movement’s conservative values.
One of the most outspoken of these men and women is former Florida Rep. Allen West. The principled Republican conservative appeared on Fox News recently to criticize not only Grayson but the Democrat party as a whole for the left’s silence on the issue.
While Barack Obama “came out and started talking about civility in our dialogue,” West wondered why he hasn’t chastised Grayson for his incendiary email.
“I think the president should be speaking out about this,” he said. “He should reprimand and censure Alan Grayson for what he said.”
West’s judgement extended to other leaders in the party, including Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Debbie Wasserman Shultz.
“You know, we continue to hear the use of this extremist language,” he told host Megyn Kelly, “jihadist language, arsonist, extortionist, and now this equating constitutional conservatives — people who just believe in a constitutional way of government to operate — with people who were responsible for lynchings, and horrible things in the south and all across the country.”
As for an apology from Grayson, it appears that conservatives will be waiting a while. His response to those offended by his disgraceful email is, “[i]f the shoe fits, wear it.”
Though he will likely never concede the level of stupidity he showed in sending the message, West was able to put the situation in perspective as almost no one else could. Not only have both men been Florida congressmen, West provides a voice for the black conservatives Grayson apparently believes do not exist.
