Beyond the rampant accusations that recently released prisoner of war Bowe Bergdahl was an Army deserter and possible traitor, the circumstances surrounding his return have elicited other serious concerns. In exchange for Bergdahl, the White House released five dangerous prisoners from Guantanamo Bay without giving Congress requisite notice.
In response, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid not only defended the deal; he actually celebrated the release of five men accused of deadly acts of terrorism.
“Guantanamo has been there far too long,” he said; “and I think that we should get them out of there as quickly as we can.”
In the end, Reid suggested that we are better off with the quintet of extremists running loose in the Middle East.
“So I’m glad to get rid of these five people,” he confirmed; “send them back to Qatar.”
Former Army Lt. Col. Allen West had something to say about Reid’s position, expressing his outrage in a recent blog post.
So let me get this right, Senator Harry Reid is glad to get rid of these people? He is glad that the top five senior members of the Taliban leadership have been set free? He is glad that we negotiated with the enemy while we are still engaged in combat operations against the enemy? Reid is glad that the Qataris have already stated these cheeky fellas will be able to roam free and perhaps go back to Afghanistan if they desire?
Never shy about stating the truth as he sees it, West concluded that it is all but assured these released terrorists returning to their extremist roots to plan future attacks. He also wondered if those brave soldiers who risked their lives to capture the prisoners in the first place are “glad like Reid.”
West concluded that he would join Reid’s celebration if the Nevada Democrat shared his definition of ‘getting rid’ of the terrorists.
“I would be glad,” he wrote, “if ‘getting rid’ of these five people meant they were receiving their requisite share of virgins – but in the liberal progressive world, that’s being mean, disgraceful, and war criminal-like.”
He acknowledged that voicing such politically incorrect opinions does not make leftists like Reid happy.
“But setting terrorists free does,” he declared.
