Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines’ video, and has given us permission to publish it.
“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”

I stand firmly with my Marine brothers. If I was over there, I would do the same thing.
All this “Touchy Feely” crap has to stop. Allen West is right on!!!!
Semper-Fi
Yea…you need to support your psycho brothers in arms. You need to be “fighting for my freedom” over in Afghanistan while the stinking government over here runs roughshod all over our so called rights. You people make me sick with your psychopathic behavior.
I already fought for your sorry butt, so if you think we are psychos publish your address and I will gladly come and urinate on your ungrateful corps. I will even arrange for the news media to be there so it is filmed.
I have already fought nfor your sorry butt also, C..Lion. I was in Nam in 1970 and pissing on a corpse is mild to what I saw. No details as there is no Statute of Limitations on war crimes. Just read what Lt. Col. West says about what they did and show me one protest letter that you wrote . Do that or STFU!!!!!!
AMEN to that hijinx60, I too fought in Nam, and I am sick of those who want to get on this sight and comment negatively, when they don’t have the guts to sign up and fight for our Nation but will sit back and judge us who do. I don’t believe anyone who has not seen war and expierenced what we saw, should have a right to give a negative word about anything our troops do. You and I came home to a hostile bunch who spat on us while we were over there fighting for their right to demonstrate against us troops. If they want to complain, I say, “you go and fight in the middle of a war then come home and try to live a normal life as we did before we went, then, we will listen to you. Othewise STFU!” I got your back hijinx60 just as we did in Nam. We are brothers closer than anyone can realize. We know first hand what war is and we have to live with that for the rest of our life. It changed each of us who served in Nam. We live with what we saw and had to do for our Nation. Let those who have not should keep their mouths shut!!
It is because of anti-American, filthy 99%ers like you that our government is running running roughshod over our “so called” rights here at home. Useful idiots like you voted to put a communist agitator in the White House…and then you complain? Your idiotic comment shows your ignorance and lack of intellect .
hahaha, You’re just the type of A-hole who doesn’t appreciate what others do to defend your rights to speak about something you know nothing about. If you haven’t served, just keep your trap shut!!!!
“Beepster,I can’t agree with you more!!” We may or may not like our Commander in Chief but we have to respect the postion no matter which political party they are with. If we don’t like them then we simply vote them out of office. Hence “We the People” are the ones who put the Commander in Chief in office. We Americans have made some mistakes for sure. But at least we have the power still to change what we did every four years. If a person does not register to vote then their openion as far as I am concerned is moot! DON’T VOTE, THEN DON’T BITCH, IS WHAT I SAY! I’m a Vietnam Vet myself and even though I dd not know why we were in Nam, I did not wait for to be drafted, I joined the USAF while I was still in High School. When I got out I went and fought for whatever my country was fighting for. When you join the U. S. Military, you give your whole being to the U. S. Governement as Government property to fight as you are so ordered. It is a matter of being a true loyal American that I fought for my Country (Politics aside). Politics get in the way of our Military Theater Commanders when they don’t have a clue of what our Commanders see in action and need to change without D. C.’s permission.. Only we in action know what is going on. The fat cats in Congress and Senate should allow our Military Commanders to do their job. PERFECT EXAMPLE HERE: General George S Patton reached Berlin way befor the Soviets did and was about to overtake it ALL. But it was the liberal Congress and Senate who told him to hold back until the Soviats got there. What did that do? Well the Berlin wall went up and it started a Cold War all of us who were raised in the 1950′s/60′s had to deal with. We had drills at school in how to “duck and cover,” reach a safe Civil Defence shelters, nuclear bilistic missels cilo’s were built on farms all over Missouri where I grew up. We would not have had that Cold War in my openion if the beurocrats would have keep their mouths shut and let the Military Commanders do the job they are trainded to do.
Enjoyed your comment very much damudbug! Thank you for your service to our great country.
BTW I work here at Western Journalism.
Thanks Daniel, that’s good news to know. I am glad you are working at WJ. It’s a great site and I see a lot of like minded people on here. A few who know nothing about our Government or how it works make some real goofy comments. You can tell if you are talking to a vet. A vet never appoligzes for serving for his country. I am here on the Miss. Gulf Coast about 50 miles N/E from New Orleans (The Big Easy) or sportwise known as “DA Who DAT Nation” lol. We are gearing up for Mardi Gras. There will be a bunch of pick pockets coming into town as that’s when we have a lot of visitors from out of town that are amiture drunks and loose their wallets. Anyone here knows keep your money and I. D. near your family jewels. Ain’t no way they can steal them from that area “without you knowing it.” LOL. But the out of towners carry their wallets in their back pocket and they don’t even get them picked. Most pros use a razor and simply bumps into you and the razor goes right up your “obvious wallet buldge” and it simply falls out in their hand. Then they do a quick reverse face and there goes your Mardi Gras vacation. We get a bad rep for that but it is people like me who live around here that if we see a man with his wallet in his back hip pocket we pull them aside and tell them what’s up. Especially today with the meth and crack problems. You never walk down a dark alley and try to stay on the bussiest streets and someone should stay sober to watch out for their friends. You also never open and expose the huge amount of cash you have wth you. Tell the ladies to take off the diamond rings, gold necklaces etc.. In fact remove all gold before you go. Even the wedding rings. It’s mostly common sense. But like I said it is not the people that live here in New Orleans who do this. The best pick pockets in the world know that from now untill after Mardi Gras is over New Orleans is the best place for them to be. I am friends with some N/O Police. I have heard all the stories. Safest place is near the river walk that runs near Jackson Square. That’s where the buggies line up for tours through the French Quarter. It is also where you can board the riverboat Natchez and have a dinner cruise on the Miss River. Anyone from around here knows there are two streets the locals will never go on during this time of year. That’s Burbon Street and next to it Royal Street. Both are tourist traps and have the highest prices on drinks and dinner (everything. You can get the same at half the price on Nth Peters St that runs along Jackson Square where I just mentioned. Nice bars and resturants that are just as good but not as high as Burbon and Royal streets.
Thanks for the response, Come on down and see us sometime. I can show you the best places to go and have fun without going broke. damudbug.
Totally agree with Allen West. He seems to have a good deal of common sense concerning this situation.
Allsen West has a good deal of common sense about a lot of things.
Thank you, Robert Walker, Vietnam Vet.
There is a one thing not addressed here and that is those of us in the military don’t choose our battles, we are given orders, trained to kill the enemy, taught to protect our brothers in arms at all costs and complete our mission! If anybody here who never served or never experienced the stress of battle has an ounce of common sense they would place the blame squarely on the backs of our government, who send us into battle. We don’t get to pick our battles nor do we tend to treat the enemy, who have no respect for our military or our rights, with anything but utter contempt. Blame the government not the troops, who are just following orders and who deal with the horror that visits many of our brothers in battle. These sub-human enemies could care less about the Geneva Convention. They do stuff to our brothers that is beyond description and we react, we get even…..damn the torpedos. War is ugly, people die and are maimed. The key is to kill and maim way more of them. Read General Patton’s views on war. Do we belong in Afghanistan hell no, nor Iraq for that matter. We obviously didn’t learn our lesson in Viet Nam………..didn’t belong there either. Nam was hell and a senseless waste of life in a conflict driven by again, the pencil pusher cowards in Washington. Now things are even worse. We have an emasculated general staff, politicians in uniform and an effeminate de-facto CNC whose not one of us. An ineligible interloper who hates the military with a vengeance. The latest tidbit of information with regard to the traitor in chief is his refusal, when visiting troops for a phony photo op, complained like a baby when asked to take a picture with our men and women in uniform. I have two comments about this. 1. What soldier in his right mind would want to be seen with this POS fraud and 2. Why doesn’t our general staff arrest this creep for treason and sedition!
Allen West is right on, war is hell so STFU!
I couldn’t agree more with Alan West. The majority of the critics never served, never put on a uniform, never risked anything to protect our country. Unless you have been in our armed forces, you have no basis for understanding what these youth were put through. If more liberals would join the military and serve honorably, we would have fewer liberals and more new conservatives, because they would understand. Support our troops!
So being in Afghanistan protecting the poppy fields is “protecting our country”? Pissing on dead men defending their homes from invaders is somehow honorable? Support our troops after seeing what the did in New Orleans after Katrina? SCREW YOU.
C. Lion. We should not be in Afghanistan, I agree with you on that. Soldiers are trained to hate. And they are trained to kill. If you disagree with the current military situation, then vote for Ron Paul for President. He too has some common sense. He will bring the troops home, and end the illegal wars.
Thank you, Robert Walker Vietnam Vet.
R Walker. Don’t make up things that are not true. I was drafted in 1967 and served from Private all the way up to retiring as a Major, in 1993 and never once did I attend a class on hate nor have I ever taught a class on hate in the military. Keep your facts straight. The Military has one objective and that is to kill the enemy before he can kill you.
Amen Amen I say too you anyone who has not sinned! Shut up your mouth and go away! West is right on! SHUT UP!
I am with you, Col. West!!! Sure, the guys messed up, but they need a kick in the can, not a noose around the neck. And I agree, all these pundits
FInished that prematurely…
Alll these pundits need to get a life. A “pundit” is supposed to be a “learned man” or “wise man”. Maybe they are, if they give the names to themselves… but to most people, they recognize Jack for Jack.

Well said, once again, Congressman West.
These crying left wing liberals are always completely silent when the US is being abused, denigrated, unfairly and incorrectly judged… and loud mouthed whining imbiciles when they have opportunity to blame the US, to make any kind of claim of wrong-doing, to make the US look bad in any way… they are anti-American at their core, and should be identified and acknowledged as such upon every utterance of their ridiculous claims… double standards reveal a deep seated bias and intent to cause harm… this behaviour is not unnoticed, is not acceptable, and should be clearly exposed for exactly what it is and what it was meant to do, exactly as Col. West has done here… no more free passes for these despicable liberal agitants and boneheads…
Excellent job, Sir… you speak for far more people than you may realize…
Rep. Allen West is right on with his comments. We Americfans have to stop and realize that these men who urinated on these TERRORIST body’s have seen HELL from these terrorist. They have seen their buddies blown up by their roadside bombs and friendly acting Afhganisti citizens smile at them while they pass then turn their guns on us shootiing our troops in the back. These Marines can and will be exornerated in my belief. If not, that is going to send a Very Wrong message to the rest of our troops there who feel they did no wrong, considering what these terrorist have done to our own troops.
Col West would make a marvelous Sec of Defense, if not president! Support out troops at all times & through all issues! – You never hear a Taliban member complain about a fellow Taliban “soldier’s” horrific actions, nor does CAIR say anything! – We must stand behind our military.
I HAVE MET MR WEST. HE IS A LOVER OF THIS COUNTRY .
HIS COMMENT ON THE MARINES WHO PISSED ON DEAD ENEMY
WAS CORRECT . THIS IS WAR. YOU BEHEAD US . WE PISS ON YOU DEAD OR A LIVE.
A REPRIMAND SHOULD BE ISSUED. I RESENT BEING CONDEMNED BY THOSE WHO
DO EVEN WORSE . CLEAN UP YOUR OWN ACTIONS BEFORE CONDEMNING OTHERS.
“combatvet” First of all allow me to thank you for serving in our Military. Now with our mission in the Mid East. You are more correct than you know about comparing the Mid East war with the Vietnam war in which I served. Simply put there are wars we cannot win (on the ground when we are so outnumbered.) When I was in Nam, I knew first hand why President Kennedy tried to bring our boys home. He had the forsight to see that we would not be fighting a ground war with just the Vietcong but the Red Communist Chinese. North Vietnam borders China and they were pouring over the border and taking up Vietcong uniforms. Everybody on this Earth knows there is no Nation who can win a “GROUND WAR” with the Chinese. They have the largest military in numbers that just keep coming and coming. Kennedy saw that and was advised by our Military Commanders of that issue. As a WWII Vet, & hero, “he (listened)” and had just brought home the first planeload of troops home just before, he was assassinated. How convient that was for the Big Businesses who President Johnson represented. Johnson then increased our numbers right after Kennedy was murdered from 70,000 troops to 175,000. This made his friends in Texas who were building the Huey helicopters wealthy as well as other Big Businesses who got rich supplying our troops with weapons, vehicles, jets, ships etc.. When Johnson finally realized how unpopular the Vietnam war was as the people in the U. S. were demonstrating in the streets, & young men being drafted right out of High School, he said he would not run for a second term. How many Presidents in our American History has done that? He simply wanted out of a situation he realized he had no solution for. “Then Nixon finally did realize that, during his Presidency” and simply brought our troops home, (in effect deserted that unwinable war) and we came home with out tails tucked between our legs being spat upon and called baby killers. So I ask what was the reason we lost over 50,000 of America’s Best to an unwinable war? American Souls wasted on an unwinable war!! You are on the front lines and “YOU are not the only troop who has said we are not making any difference in Afhganistan and should pull out.” If not, Yes it would be another Vietnam, but we should do it now before we reach the number of troops lost as we did in Nam. God be with you and God speed your Soul back home to protect our own homeland where you belong. Neither Vietnam nor Afhganistan attacked our Nation. But it was our politicians (without regard to our Military Commanders input to not go to war aganst these Nations) as they knew our Military would be slaughtered for a monatary means (OIL) only. We entered Afhganistan to find and kill Osama Bin Laden. He and his high level Lt.s have been killed. Mission now is acomplished, and we need to bring you back home. There are other Nations who are planning to actually do our Nation harm in the near future. But we can win war with those Nations without putting one foot of any troop on the ground. We can attack by air and sea but in Countries like Vietnam, Iraq and Afhganistan, a ground war is frutless. Even in Iraq now, Iranians are crossing over the border to take control of it. With the weak Govt. they have, it will be an easy take too. “General Patton was right when he reached Berlin and was staged to overtake it, (but it was Washington beurocrats who made him stop so that the Soviets could catch up.) Look at that result. The Berlin wall went up and a Cold War began that very nearly caused a Nuclear holicost between the USA and the USSR. Once a war begins we need Washington D. C. to leave it up to the Military Commanders to do their job without interfearence. That is why we have the worlds BEST Military Commanders. They know when and how to fight and win and get out.
