Ever since Republicans failed to win the Senate majority last November, the GOP establishment has been gearing up to prevent candidates with “Todd Akin problems” from spoiling the party’s chances in 2014.
But the man who has come to symbolize the GOP’s electoral defeat — former Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) himself — warns that efforts by Republican bigwigs to weigh in on primaries will backfire.
“It may be another example of big-government conservatism, to try to bypass primaries,” Akin told The Hill. “If they were successful, it basically helps kill the grassroots heart of the party. I think it’s very non-constructive.”
Akin has kept a relatively low profile since his loss last November to incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill (D), a defeat blamed on his controversial remarks about rape and pregnancy.
But that hasn’t stopped others from talking about the former congressman. His name almost always crops up as a prime example of why it’s imperative for the Republican establishment to be involved in future primaries.

These so-called establishment Republican leaders, like Carl Rove, who aggressively jump forward and instantly demand that the Republican Party drop its financial support for any conservative candidate that has defeated a Rove backed candidate in the primary the minute a the winning candidate first makes a mistake or misstatement is our problem. If Carl Rove and the Republican Party had not withdrawn its financial support from candidate Akin and the others, they would probably have won their elections.
Carl Rove and his establishment buddies can thank themselves for the Republican losses in the 2012 election. Two presidential losses in a roe ought to tell these big mouth bullies something and if they keep up this bash the tea party conservatives he will succeed in destroying the Republican Party.
I’m ready to start looking for a new party anyway and I like the name, The Constitution based Republican Party.
The party needs to rethink some of its strategies and stop clinging to a couple of ideals because one mold does not fit all conservatives. The party just about drives mild conservatives away. Putting Mitt Romney up for candidacy was the biggest mistake, or was it, it almost seemed that the party wanted to lose the golden ring. I would of voted for any of the other candidates over Mitt including Ron. Many conservatives felt that they where given the short end of the stick and only voted for Mitt because they like Obama less.
There are many Republicans out there that are not very religious, but they don’t care if prayers are said in school or if they want to display a nativity scene, they live and let live respecting people choice of religion. But to campaign on religious grounds turns many people away and makes it look as if its a crusade, yes, we are a christian nation and I hope will always remain so.
The abortion issue is another one, yes your religions make you a right to life person but like I said above not every Republican or Conservative share strong religious beliefs and feel that a woman has a right to choose, I feel there should be some common sense in this issue. I feel that there should be a very short window to make this choice, not to let it get to partial birth abortion which is horrific. The day after pill is another controversy that shouldn’t be a presidential debate issue.
Social security and Medicare to many are not considered “entitlements” we paid into it diligently and now due to congressional misdeeds its in trouble and all we hear from the right is that we have to get rid of entitlements, really? I you want to sour Americans quickly, this one issue drove many away from the right quicker than rotten fish. What should of been the issue if removing the leeches who never paid into these programs, stop spending the money put into them, replace the money that was siphoned off and guarantee that if will be off limits to the general fund. To think people who broke the law coming into this country are entitled to our retirement and medical benefits is ridiculous. Republicans should .telling us that they will fight to save what we have invested in over our lifetimes and not reforming it or making it private, private mean that it will disappear overnight through some white collar scandal or over stock market crash like our 401k’s.
To of defeated Obama the choice of Mitt was doomed from the start, it is apparent the minority vote was the major factor in the past two elections, the big cities with its high minority population and its electoral votes swept away Mitt. The only way to of defeated Obama was with another African American candidate, I was hoping for Herman Cain because he seem genuine, not a career politician, has a plan from the start and was the only one who would of been able to undermine some of Obama’s vote base.
The focus issue was Obama care, this shouldn’t of been the main issue. We on the right know its bad for the country but it gave the left a rally cry to dig their heels and recruit more people. I think things like why is a former weatherman anti-government Bill Ayers a confidant or some of the Marxist radicals in his cabinet.
I think the last thing the minions on the right want to know is, if there is doubt about Obama’s eligibility they why is the right not doing anything about it?
Why?
Why?
Why?
If he where to be proven a fraud then many of the things he has done can be undone. It makes me wonder that the reason he is in office and no one is challenging him is because the elites want to see if this grand experiment works and if it blow up in their faces they can undo it in a hurry.
