Republican Rep. Todd Akin’s campaign is accusing influential GOP-affiliated organizations that refuse to spend money to help the Republican senate candidate of genuinely wanting Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill to win the hotly contested senate contest in Missouri.
Rick Tyler, a senior adviser to Akin, told The Daily Caller this week that Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS and Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn’s National Republican Senatorial Committee are trying to undermine Akin.
“I believed at one time they did want Akin to win, even though they didn’t want to admit it,” Tyler told TheDC. “I’m convinced now they don’t want Akin to win.”
In August, Akin told a news station that “the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down” if a “legitimate rape” occurs, prompting outrage and condemnation from both sides of the political aisle.
The race might even determine which party will control the U.S. Senate next year. But both Crossroads GPS and the NRSC, which are spending millions to help Republican Senate candidates across the country, vowed not to support Akin in any way after they determined his rape comment threatened to hurt other Republican candidates across the country, according to Tyler.

Mr. Akin, like most Americans, I saw and heard the comment you made which has led to all this warfare. I’m with you. No one can honestly think you condone rape. To say you do is beyond stupid, and stupid is incurable. Getting past that, I think I have it figured out – the reasons so many have turned against you even tho we need every Republican we can get in the Senate. These foes of yours are afraid to speak up and tell the truth, or they do not have the intelligence to learn and know the truth. Either way, they don’t qualify to express an opinion that anyone will listen to. Or, perhaps, you are a church-goer. Church people are just like piranhas – one drop of blood and they rip you to shreds, but with humans, it is those who are bleeding themselves who attack.
Great comment, I agree with all that you said. The GOP made I believe a terrible error in cutting Akin adrift. The Democrats stick together to the end, and the Republican’s seem not to do the same. I hope that Akin’s win’s the seat, Republican’s must win the Senate otherwise nothing will change, even if we win the Oval office.
Avatar and Gabor I totally agree with both of you but the “establishment” is hard to beat and if they don’t want someone in they usually don’t get in. They love their lying, big money spenders that are loyal to them and cheat and lie to the people. I do hope that Akin wins!
