Throughout 2013, it has been increasingly difficult to escape the leftist clamor in favor of homosexual marriage. Continuing that trend into 2014, the upcoming Rose Parade will feature a politically charged float depicting a same-sex marriage.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is presenting the float, which it named “Love is the Best Protection.” Millions of viewers – including a large number of children – will be subjected to this spectacle as they scour the parade for their favorite characters.

At least one concerned individual is mounting a campaign to urge advertisers to boycott the event.

Karen Grube said she doesn’t believe marriage of any type should be displayed in the popular parade; however, she has specific concerns about the float in question.

“Gay marriage is illegal in over 30 states,” she explained. “Why would they promote something that is blatantly illegal? That’s just stupid.”

Cal Poly Pomona History Professor Emeritus Ralph E. Shaffer expressed his belief that an explicit display – expected to include multiple kisses between the two “husbands” – might result in even more cultural upheaval.

“The problem is going to be the wedding kiss,” he explained, noting he can’t predict “what the response is going to be.”

Of course, one half of the same-sex couple involved contends the float is not intended to express any agenda.

Danny Leclair said “a lot of people who think we’re doing this as a political statement,” asserting the only intended message is that “love will save lives.”

Expressing that message in such an obviously provocative manner, however, will certainly evoke even more debate regarding this already contentious issue. For its part, parade organizers are standing by the controversial float.

A Tournament of Roses statement alleged “AHF continues to help make the Rose Parade a premier event through original and creative expressions that connect to parade themes – as this float does.”

For millions of Americans, however, it is impossible to connect with a theme they believe is an abomination of God’s family design. Despite the fact some states have decided to legalize homosexual unions, the Rose Parade is a nationally celebrated event.

Using such a forum to promote the perversion of marriage will only cause social conservatives to find New Year’s tradition.
